Lost Creek Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the picturesque landscapes surrounding Kamas, Utah? Lost Creek Campground, situated along Forest Road 150, Kamas, UT 84036, USA, offers a mixed bag of experiences according to recent visitors. While many have lauded its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, some specific site conditions have raised concerns. This detailed introduction aims to provide local users with an objective overview of the campground's environment, services, and features based on available reviews.
One of the most compelling aspects of Lost Creek Campground, as highlighted by a 2022 visitor in July, is its stunning natural environment. The reviewer described the weather as "excellent" and the campground itself as "beautiful!" The presence of both a creek and a lake adds to the scenic appeal and provides opportunities for various water-based activities. The cool and clear waters were noted as "great for fishing and COLD swimming!" This suggests that the campground is an ideal destination for those looking to enjoy aquatic recreation in a pristine setting. Furthermore, the "beautiful sunsets and sunrises" contributed to a deeply spiritual experience for the visitor, indicating a tranquil and awe-inspiring atmosphere that connects campers with the land.
The positive experience of this visitor led them to enthusiastically "recommend this campground to everyone," underscoring the potential for a truly memorable and enriching outdoor adventure at Lost Creek Campground.
Another reviewer echoed the positive sentiment regarding the overall quality of the campground and the management during their visit. They stated, "The campground itself along with the people who ran it this year are fantastic!" This suggests that the general upkeep of the campground and the service provided by the staff are commendable, contributing to a pleasant stay for most visitors.
However, this same reviewer brought to light a significant issue concerning a specific campsite: number 12. According to their feedback, "campsite number 12 SHOULD NOT be a campsite that is available for reservation." The primary reason for this strong recommendation is the site's unfavorable natural conditions. A natural creek runs just east of the campsite, and critically, "a portion of it splits off and runs directly through the site." This results in the area being "constantly a muddy mess to walk in," making it difficult to navigate and enjoy the campsite.
Adding to the challenges of campsite number 12 is the lack of level ground. The reviewer noted, "There is no level ground on the site and the picnic table itself sits on a slope preventing anything from sitting level." This uneven terrain can make setting up camping gear, cooking, and simply relaxing quite inconvenient and uncomfortable. The inability to have a stable surface for essential items like a picnic table significantly detracts from the usability of the site.
Furthermore, a potential safety hazard was identified with the placement of the picnic table in relation to the fire pit at campsite number 12. The reviewer pointed out that "the table sits only 2-3 ft from the fire pit and makes for a major safety hazard." Such close proximity increases the risk of accidental fires or burns, especially for families with children or during windy conditions. This is a serious concern that should be addressed by the campground management.
The negative conditions of campsite number 12 significantly impacted the experience of this particular reviewer and their group. They mentioned, "We intended on moving it however incredibly heavy and burdensome to do so," indicating that even attempting to mitigate the unevenness by relocating the picnic table was impractical due to its weight. As a result, they were compelled to spend most of their time at an adjacent campsite occupied by family members, stating, "we spent the majority of time there vs our muddy swamp of a site." This highlights the extent to which the poor conditions of campsite 12 detracted from their intended camping experience.
Considering these contrasting reviews, Lost Creek Campground offers a generally beautiful environment with opportunities for fishing, swimming, and enjoying scenic views. The campground management has also been praised for their service. However, potential visitors must be aware that specific campsites, such as number 12, may have significant drawbacks, including muddy terrain, uneven ground, and potential safety hazards related to the fire pit's proximity to the picnic table.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Kamas, UT area, Lost Creek Campground presents an option with considerable natural appeal. The allure of the creek and lake, coupled with the reported beauty of the surroundings, could make it an attractive destination. However, it is crucial to exercise caution when booking a campsite. If possible, potential campers should inquire specifically about the conditions of their chosen site, particularly if considering campsite number 12. It might be prudent to request information or even photos of the specific site they are reserving to avoid disappointment or safety concerns upon arrival.
The positive review from 2022 suggests that many campsites at Lost Creek Campground likely offer a pleasant and enjoyable experience. The issues highlighted with campsite number 12 appear to be an exception, albeit a significant one for those unfortunate enough to reserve it. Therefore, while the campground as a whole seems to be well-regarded for its beauty and management, prospective visitors should be diligent in selecting their specific campsite.

In conclusion, Lost Creek Campground near Kamas, UT, offers a beautiful natural setting with opportunities for various outdoor activities and generally positive feedback regarding its management. However, the significant issues reported with campsite number 12, including muddy conditions, uneven ground, and an unsafe fire pit placement, serve as a cautionary tale. Aug 28, 2023 · Joe FernandezOur stay in the glamping tents was really fun! They’re definitely the more expensive option, but it was easy. I’d come to this campground again- probably for a standard tent site. Bring bug spray, though- the more deet the better. The mosquitoes were absolutely awful
Jul 23, 2024 · Allison ConnerNice campground. There are only a few spots right on the lake (#7 and #6) but those are closest to the road and day-use area so it can get noisy. There is a creek running through the campground which is great if you have little ones. Camp hosts Jamie and Randy were super nice and very accommodating. They've got a water filling station too.
