Based on recent customer reviews, Sunrock High Adventure Base appears to be situated in a remarkable wilderness area with a lake suitable for fishing and a welcoming, if potentially still developing, infrastructure.
One long-time visitor shared their extensive experience with Sunrock High Adventure Base, having camped there as a scout in 2015 and later working and camping there for a month as a leader in 2019. They believe that 2019 was the last year the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) owned the property. This historical context suggests a background in providing facilities for organized groups and outdoor activities. This reviewer expressed great pleasure in seeing the property open again and being cared for, indicating a positive change and a promising future for the campground. They also mentioned the presence of black bears in the mountains, emphasizing the need for campers to be "mindful of them" by taking appropriate safety precautions. For those interested in angling, the lake is described as "ideal for fishing," recommending that visitors bring a rod.
Another reviewer visited Sunrock High Adventure Base with a scout troop and reported having a "great time." They noted that the facilities at their specific campsite were "in great condition." However, they also observed that "several campsites" were "in need of repair." Despite this, they praised Shad and his family as "great hosts," highlighting a positive and welcoming aspect of the management. This positive interaction with the hosts contributed to their overall enjoyable experience, and they stated that they would "definitely visit again!"
Based on these reviews, the environment of Sunrock High Adventure Base is characterized by its beautiful wilderness setting, including mountains where black bears may be present, and a lake that is ideal for fishing. The atmosphere seems welcoming, with hosts who are praised for their positive interaction with guests.
From the reviews, we can infer several services and features available at Sunrock High Adventure Base:
- Designated campsites, some of which are reported to be in great condition, while others may need repair.
- A lake suitable for fishing.
- On-site management (Shad and his family), who are described as great hosts.
- Facilities that were previously used for scout activities, suggesting potential for accommodating groups.
- Presence of wildlife, specifically black bears, requiring appropriate awareness and safety measures.
While specific promotional information isn't explicitly stated, the positive experiences shared by the reviewers act as strong endorsements. The description of a "beautiful wilderness area" and a lake "ideal for fishing" are attractive features for those seeking an immersive outdoor experience. The praise for the hosts suggests a welcoming and supportive environment. The historical connection to the BSA might also appeal to scout groups or those familiar with their programs, hinting at a potential for well-organized facilities and activities in the past.
The mention of some campsites being in need of repair suggests that the campground might be in a transitional phase, possibly undergoing improvements under new management. Local users considering "camping near me" at Sunrock High Adventure Base might want to inquire about the current condition of the campsites and any ongoing or planned upgrades.
For local users searching for "camping near me" near Hanna, UT, who are interested in a wilderness setting with fishing opportunities and a welcoming atmosphere, Sunrock High Adventure Base presents a compelling option. The positive feedback regarding the hosts and the beautiful environment outweighs the mention of some facilities needing repair, which might be temporary. The history of the property as a BSA high adventure base suggests a potential for a range of outdoor activities and a capacity to handle groups. However, awareness of the local wildlife, specifically black bears, is essential for a safe trip.
In conclusion, Sunrock High Adventure Base offers a chance to experience the beauty of the Utah wilderness with opportunities for fishing. The hosts are praised for their welcoming nature, and the campground has a history of serving outdoor enthusiasts. While some facilities may be undergoing improvements, the overall sentiment from past visitors is positive, with many looking forward to returning. Contact them at (801) 636-1992 or +1 801-636-1992 to learn more about their current offerings, campsite conditions, and any specific guidelines for camping in bear country. This could be your next great "camping near me" adventure!

Sunrock High Adventure Base Reviews
This campground is set in a beautiful wilderness area. Black bears are present in the mountains, so be mindful of them. The lake is ideal for fishing, bring a rod if you’re interested. I camped here for a week as a scout in 2015 and worked/camped here again for a month as a leader in 2019, which I believe was the last year the BSA owned the property. I'm very glad to see it’s open again and being taken care of. Looking forward to returning.
