When planning a "camping near me" trip, understanding the environment, available services, and potential features of a campground is crucial for an enjoyable outing. Based on recent customer reviews for Butterfly Lake Campground, it appears to be a highly regarded destination known for its scenic beauty and recreational opportunities, though with a caveat regarding insects during certain times of the year.
One reviewer who visited in mid-July (7/15-16) described the campground as "awesome" but noted it was "super buggy." Interestingly, they observed that the bug intensity seemed to vary significantly between campsites. Despite being located away from the lake, they found the bugs to be "pretty intolerable" at dusk and morning, even with insect repellent and a smoky fire. Despite this significant drawback, this reviewer mentioned the "gorgeous views" and indicated a definite plan to return when it was cooler and hopefully less buggy, suggesting that the other positive aspects of the campground outweighed this seasonal issue.
This same reviewer also mentioned that the host came by to check in and that they were able to purchase firewood from him, indicating the presence of on-site management and the availability of at least one essential camping supply.
Another reviewer rated Butterfly Lake Campground a perfect "10 out of 10," proclaiming it the "best campground I have visited so far." They highlighted several positive aspects, including it being an "amazing place for fishing" and camping. They also noted the convenience of a nearby bathroom, the "absolutely gorgeous views," and the provision of fire pits with grates and eating tables at the campsites. This overwhelmingly positive review underscores the appeal of Butterfly Lake Campground for those seeking a well-equipped and visually stunning camping location.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Butterfly Lake Campground is characterized by its "gorgeous views" and proximity to Butterfly Lake, which is noted as an "amazing place for fishing." The surrounding Wasatch Cache National Forest likely contributes to the overall scenic beauty and offers opportunities for other outdoor activities. However, potential visitors should be aware that during certain times of the year, particularly mid-summer, the area can experience a significant bug population.
From the reviews, we can infer several services and features available at Butterfly Lake Campground:
- Designated campsites equipped with fire pits with grates and eating tables.
- Access to nearby bathroom facilities.
- On-site management (the host who checks in with campers and sells firewood).
- Fishing opportunities in Butterfly Lake.
- Presumably, potable water sources and trash disposal, though not explicitly mentioned.
Promotional information is not explicitly stated, but the positive reviews act as strong endorsements. The description of "gorgeous views" and "amazing place for fishing" serves to attract those seeking a scenic and recreational camping experience. The perfect "10 out of 10" rating from one reviewer is a powerful recommendation. The mention of a helpful host and the availability of firewood further enhance the appeal by suggesting a well-managed campground that caters to basic camping needs.
However, the significant issue of bugs, particularly during mid-summer, should be considered a crucial piece of information for prospective campers. The first reviewer's plan to return during a cooler and less buggy time suggests that this might be a seasonal concern. Therefore, local users considering "camping near me" at Butterfly Lake Campground should inquire about the best times to visit to minimize insect encounters.
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Wasatch Cache National Forest, Butterfly Lake Campground appears to offer a fantastic experience with stunning scenery and excellent fishing. The presence of a helpful host and basic amenities like bathrooms, fire pits with grates, and eating tables adds to its appeal. However, potential visitors should be mindful of the possibility of a significant bug population, especially during the warmer months, and consider planning their trip accordingly or coming prepared with effective insect repellent.
In conclusion, Butterfly Lake Campground is presented as a top-tier "camping near me" destination for those seeking natural beauty and recreational activities like fishing in the Wasatch Cache National Forest. The "gorgeous views" and well-equipped campsites, along with a helpful host, are significant draws. However, the potential for a high bug population during certain times of the year is a crucial factor to consider when planning your visit. Contact them at (385) 273-1100 or +1 385-273-1100 to inquire about the best times to visit and to make reservations for what promises to be a memorable camping experience.

Butterfly Lake Campground Reviews
Awesome campground but super buggy (7/15-16)! It was funny though it seemed like some sites were much more affected by bugs than others. We were distanced from the lake but at dusk and morning the bugs were pretty intolerable even with insect repellant and a smokey fire going. We will definitely be back when it’s a little cooler and hopefully less buggy.Otherwise, great little campground with gorgeous views. The host came by to check in and we bought some firewood from him.
Jul 21, 2023 · Denali Sperl10 out of 10 best camp ground I have visited so far. Amazing place for fishing, camping, has a bathroom nearby, absolutely gorgeous views, fire pits with grate, and tables for eating.
Jul 22, 2022 · Mindy GibsonLovely campground, well-maintained and clean. The sites are first come first served, and we got here at about noon on a Friday and there were several open spots. They were all gone by about 4 though, so if you're coming on a weekend be sure to get here early. There are pit toilets and water spigots, but the water was a little iffy--it was orange/yellow and had a lots of particulate stuff in it. We had enough water in our car, so we just drank that instead. All the sites have fire pits and picnic tables, which is nice. The days are beautiful and the nights are cool and there's plenty of things to do at the lake--fishing, canoeing, etc. There's also a foot path all the way around the lake, we walked it with a 3-year-old in about 25 minutes. Be aware of the campsite fees and extra vehicle fees when you come. We loved it here and will definitely come back again.
