Woodlands Acres Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Hale, Michigan area searching for "camping near me" that offers a blend of natural beauty and family-friendly amenities, Woodlands Acres Campground, located at 318 S Sage Lake Rd, Hale, MI 48739, USA, presents an interesting option. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground boasts a potentially beautiful setting with access to Sage Lake and a unique pond area, along with a seemingly welcoming management. However, some significant concerns have been raised regarding the upkeep of certain facilities, which local users should carefully consider.
Exploring the Potentially Beautiful Environment:
Woodlands Acres Campground is described by multiple reviewers as a "beautiful place." It offers access to the "stunning Sage Lake," a notable natural attraction in the Hale area, suggesting opportunities for lake-related activities and scenic views. Additionally, the campground features a pond with a beach, a wood raft, a swing, and a "long built in ground slide," indicating a focus on providing recreational water features within the campground itself. The presence of a pond suggests a diverse aquatic environment beyond the lake. One reviewer also mentions that the campground has "so much natural fun for the kids to immerse themselves in," implying a setting that encourages outdoor exploration and engagement with nature. Tent camping is also noted as being "definitely available," indicating a variety of camping options beyond RVs. While the overall environment is lauded for its beauty, one review raises concerns about the cleanliness of the lake and pond due to potential bacterial growth and goose droppings. Local users might want to assess the current conditions of the water bodies before planning water-based activities.
Services and Amenities Offered:
Based on the customer reviews, the services and amenities at Woodlands Acres Campground appear to include:
- Lake Access (Sage Lake): Campers have access to the beautiful Sage Lake, with the potential for swimming, boating, and enjoying the lakeside scenery.
- Boat and Kayak Rentals: Inexpensive boat and kayak rentals are available, providing a convenient way for guests to enjoy Sage Lake.
- Pond with Beach: A pond within the campground offers a beach area for relaxation and play.
- Recreational Features at the Pond: The pond includes a wood raft, a swing, and a long built-in ground slide, specifically catering to family fun and children's entertainment.
- Tent Camping Availability: The campground accommodates tent campers in addition to RVs or other camping units.
- Helpful Management: The campground managers, Barbra and John, are described as "the sweetest people" and helpful. One reviewer specifically mentioned John offering assistance with transporting kayaks to the lake, which is noted as being "like a mile away" from some areas.
However, a significant concern is raised regarding the maintenance and cleanliness of the bathroom facilities. One reviewer describes the bathrooms as "disgusting" due to issues with cleanliness, including misuse by some long-term residents. This is a serious consideration for potential visitors. Additionally, the distance of some campsites from Sage Lake (a mile) might be a factor for those wanting immediate lake access.
Key Features and Family-Friendly Focus:
Woodlands Acres Campground seems to emphasize natural recreational opportunities and a family-friendly atmosphere:
- Stunning Sage Lake: The primary natural attraction offering boating, kayaking, and scenic beauty.
- Unique Pond Area: The pond with its beach, raft, swing, and slide provides a distinct recreational space, particularly appealing to children.
- Natural Fun for Kids: The overall environment is described as offering "so much natural fun for the kids to immerse themselves in," suggesting ample space for outdoor play and exploration.
- Welcoming Staff: The positive feedback about the owners and staff indicates a potentially pleasant and helpful interaction for guests.
These features suggest that Woodlands Acres could be a great option for families with children looking for a "camping near me" experience with a variety of water-based activities and natural play areas.
Significant Concerns Regarding Maintenance and Cleanliness:
It is imperative for local users to consider the serious concerns raised in one of the reviews regarding the upkeep of the campground:
- Dirty Bathrooms: Allegations of unsanitary bathroom conditions, including misuse, are a significant negative point.
- Water Quality Concerns: Potential issues with the cleanliness of Sage Lake and the pond due to goose droppings and bacterial growth are mentioned, raising concerns about water safety for recreational activities. The reviewer specifically mentions the visual appearance of the pond as having a "2+ feet of green bacteria."
- Distance to the Lake: The significant distance (up to a mile) from some campsites to Sage Lake could be inconvenient for campers wanting frequent lake access.
These maintenance and cleanliness issues are serious and should be carefully weighed by local users considering a stay at Woodlands Acres Campground. It might be prudent to inquire about the current status of these concerns before making a booking.
Limited Promotional Information and Potential for Improvement:
The reviews do not contain any specific promotional offers. However, one reviewer suggests that the campground needs to do more advertising, noting that even long-term residents of Hale were unaware of its existence. This lack of visibility might be something the campground is addressing. The same reviewer also expresses hope that increased revenue from more customers could lead to improvements in water treatment and overall maintenance, addressing the current concerns.
Recommendation for Local Users:
Woodlands Acres Campground offers a potentially beautiful setting with appealing amenities, particularly for families with children who would enjoy the pond area and access to Sage Lake with boat rentals. The welcoming nature of the management is also a positive aspect. However, the serious concerns raised about the cleanliness of the bathrooms and the potential water quality issues in the lake and pond are significant drawbacks that cannot be ignored. Local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully consider these points. It would be wise to seek more recent information or perhaps even visit the campground to assess the current conditions before making a decision. If the maintenance issues have been addressed, Woodlands Acres could indeed be a "hidden gem" as one reviewer suggests. However, based on the current feedback, caution and further investigation are warranted.
Local residents interested in Woodlands Acres Campground might want to contact them directly at (989) 218-1798 or +1 989-218-1798 to inquire about the current state of the facilities, water quality, and any steps being taken to address the concerns raised in the reviews. Woodlands Acres Campground Reviews
This park is BEAUTIFUL. Just wish it would be taken care of better. There is a community of men staying there currently. They pee all over the bathrooms, EVEN IN THE WOMENS. The bathrooms are disgusting. The private lake is gorgeous but the goose poop has probably got that full of E-Coli. The lake only looks a foot deep because there 2+ feet of green bacteria. The pond also is full of the green sludge. I met the campground managers Barbra and John. They are the sweetest people! John offered to help take our kayaks to the lake since it’s like a mile away. And Mrs.Barbra is just the funniest sweetheart. You can talk to her all day. Also you guys seriously need to do some advertising. My family has lived in Hale for YEARS and no one knew about this place. More costumers=more money (hopefully treat your water so no one gets necrotizing fasciitis)

Sep 06, 2023 · vinnie swibenNow under private ownership this is a great campground. The fishing lay a canvas swimming pond, numerous trails and hundreds of acres to explore. Great place for corporate get together's group outings have a really nice house to rent with a beautiful dock overlooking the lake. These pictures were taken at night off the deck of the house.
Sep 02, 2022 · Fran KopkaGreat campground!!!! While it only recently re-opened the grounds have been well maintained and the bathroom/bathhouse is well maintained and close to all campsites. It has a nice little park for kids, basketball court, volleyball and a beach where you can kayak or just relax. A perfect place if you just want to stay in one spot and not leave. The staff was wonderful and just a text away for any of your needsIt’s also only about 5 minute drive from sage lake and 28 minutes from west branch!!!This will be our go to campground anytime we want to stay near safe lake!!!!
