Yankton / Missouri River KOA Journey aims to provide a relaxing experience for campers. Several visitors have noted the campground's quiet atmosphere, making it a potentially peaceful retreat for those looking to unwind. The staff has also been commended for being great, contributing to a positive check-in process. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the pool and bathrooms has been highlighted as a consistent positive aspect of the campground.
For families, the presence of a pool can be a significant draw, offering a way to cool down and enjoy recreational time during warmer months. However, recent feedback suggests that the functionality and maintenance of some amenities, particularly those geared towards children, may vary. One reviewer advised calling ahead to confirm the availability and condition of kid-friendly activities, as they reported that none were acceptable during a Memorial Day weekend visit. Another long-time visitor also mentioned that the "jumping bean" was out of order and dug up during their recent stay.
While the pool is listed as a heated amenity, a recurring issue seems to be a leak that necessitates daily refilling with a hose. This process reportedly results in the pool being colder than expected, even if it is intended to be heated. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the pool's maintenance, with one group of campers finding frogs and a lack of chlorine upon their arrival, requiring them to take matters into their own hands to make it usable.
Another area of concern raised by a returning visitor over several years is the persistent issue of potholes and mud pits within the campground. Despite repeated visits, this infrastructure problem has apparently not been adequately addressed, with one recent experience being described as "horrendous." This could potentially impact the ease of navigation within the campground, particularly for larger RVs or during periods of wet weather.
On a more positive note, some visitors have found the campground to be generally relaxing during their stays. This suggests that despite the noted issues, the overall ambiance and quiet environment can still contribute to a pleasant camping experience for many. However, it's important for prospective local campers to be aware of the potential inconsistencies in amenity functionality and the ongoing infrastructure concerns.
One specific instance mentioned a camper site near tent sites that was considered an eyesore due to the presence of items like a dirty mattress outside. While this seems to be an isolated observation, it highlights the importance of maintaining the overall tidiness of all campsites to ensure a pleasant experience for all guests.
In summary, Yankton / Missouri River KOA Journey offers a locally accessible camping option with a reputation for a quiet atmosphere, friendly staff, and clean essential facilities like the pool and bathrooms. However, potential visitors should be aware of reported inconsistencies in the functionality of kid-oriented activities, the potentially colder-than-expected heated pool due to a leak, and persistent issues with potholes within the campground. It might be advisable to contact the campground directly to inquire about the current status of amenities and any ongoing maintenance efforts, especially if specific features like the pool or children's activities are a priority for your camping trip. As no specific promotional information was available in the provided reviews, local users are encouraged to call the provided phone numbers to inquire about any current offers or discounts for local residents. By considering both the positive feedback and the areas of concern raised by previous visitors, local campers can make an informed decision about whether Yankton / Missouri River KOA Journey aligns with their camping preferences and expectations for a "camping near me" experience.

Yankton / Missouri River KOA Journey Reviews
Great staff, pool was clean, bathrooms were always clean! Check in was easy, it's a great little town. There was one camper site near our tents that is just a huge eye sore with stuff like dirty mattress outside. But we've been there a couple times and it's always relaxing.
Jun 20, 2024 · Grace WilliamsonI would call first if you want any kid activities to make sure they are functional, since none were acceptable for Memorial Day weekend.Have been coming to this KOA for Memorial Day weekend for years with our 10+ camper family. In the past we've had a wonderful time, minus the fact that they cannot keep the deep pot holes/mud pits fixed year after year. This year was horrendous. Some of our group showed up on Thursday, and the rest on Friday. When the people got there Thursday, the pool had frogs living in it, and no chlorine. Our group ended up fishing the frogs out of the pool themselves and dumping the chlorine in. The pool has had a small leak for years, so they use a hose to fill it up each day, so although it is listed as a heated pool, it's much colder than it should be. The jumping bean was also down the whole weekend and completely dug up. Completely unacceptable.Pros. It is a quiet campground if that is what you are looking for.
May 27, 2024 · Jana Van BruggenFriendly staff, easy access but far enough from the highway that it was quiet. Campsites not crammed on top of each other. Restrooms and showers very clean. Cable TV is included, but you need to ask for a set top box. Gravel roads in the campground have some good sized dips. Recent rains filled them up with water so not sure how deep.
Oct 05, 2023 · Richard EatonAvoid this RV park. Worse KOA of months staying in KOA. Manager and staff were rude and seemed bothered by any questions. Terrible impression for KOA. Mostly full timers, many that did not look to KOA standards. Unable to use sewer connection that was covered in dirt. manager said he would come give us access, but he never showed up. We also did not have the advertised cable TV. Manager said We needed a box. He said since we came in after 5 we did not get one. A box was never offered even when I went to the office. Space looked like a dried up mud pit. Full timers leaving early in the morning with noisy trucks. We could have dealt with most of it if manager had not been so rude. He was more concerned with playing on the computer than assisting me. Stayed one night instead of two. We went to Lewis & Clark State Park for the next night. Beautiful park, half the price and friendly and helpful staff.
May 12, 2024 · Sandi BMade reservations on-line for a cabin for two days. After making reservations we started driving towards the campground. Four hours later and over two hundred and fifty miles of driving the campground called and said the cabin will not be ready for the first night. They suggested I get a hotel and then check in on day two. I asked if I could check in early since they made the mistake. I was told that cabin cleaning wouldn’t be done until 3 pm so I canceled the whole reservation. This was very unprofessional and because of that I wouldn’t recommend this business to anyone!
