Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "RV parks near me" in the vicinity of Shawneetown, Illinois, or looking for a convenient base to explore the natural wonders of Southern Illinois? Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground, located at 776 Poplar St, Shawneetown, IL 62984, might be an option to consider. This RV park aims to provide a resting spot for travelers, particularly those interested in visiting attractions like the Garden of the Gods and Cave in Rock, which are noted to be approximately a 34-minute drive away.
Based on recent customer feedback, Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground offers full hook-ups for RVs, which can be a significant advantage for those requiring water, electricity, and sewer connections. This feature allows for a more comfortable and self-sufficient stay while on the road. The park's location is also highlighted as being convenient for accessing the scenic beauty of the region, especially for those planning trips to the renowned Garden of the Gods and the intriguing Cave in Rock.
However, it's important to note some of the concerns raised by recent visitors. One review mentions a lack of a welcome packet upon arrival, which could leave guests without immediate information about the campground's amenities and rules. Additionally, the absence of a readily apparent bathhouse or laundry facilities was noted, which are often considered essential amenities for extended stays or for travelers who prefer these conveniences. The review also mentions a dumpster on-site that was chained, leading to uncertainty about its usability for guests.
Another significant point of feedback concerns a long-term resident with a substantial number of beagles, reported to be around 15, kept in a fenced area. The reviewer described the dogs as barking constantly, which could potentially impact the peace and quiet of other campers. Furthermore, there was an incident reported where two of the beagles allegedly jumped the fence and acted aggressively towards a guest walking a dog, resulting in the guest having to pick up their pet for safety. While the reviewer acknowledges that this situation might not be directly the fault of the campground owner, it was a significant concern that affected their experience and led them to advise against staying at the camp.
On a more positive note, another reviewer offers a different perspective, describing Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground as "still a diamond in the ruff but rapidly approaching 5 stars." This suggests that the park may be undergoing improvements or that different guests have varying experiences based on their individual needs and expectations. This reviewer emphasizes the "genuine friendship and hospitality" found at the campsite, indicating a potentially welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere. They also highlight the park's suitability for RVs needing hookups and its appeal to camping bikers looking for a convenient base to explore the natural and historical attractions in the area.
This positive feedback further mentions the appealing roads and scenery in the surrounding area, positioning Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground as a potentially excellent place to rest, whether for a single night during transit or as a destination for those attending special events held at the campground or nearby. This suggests that the park might host or be located close to local events that could enhance a visitor's stay.
Considering both the positive and negative feedback, Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground appears to be a location that offers essential RV hookups and convenient access to natural attractions like Garden of the Gods and Cave in Rock. For travelers prioritizing these aspects, the park could serve as a functional basecamp. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported lack of certain amenities, such as a readily accessible bathhouse and laundry, and the potential for noise and interactions with a large number of dogs belonging to a long-term resident. The experience at Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground may vary depending on individual priorities and sensitivity to these factors.
For local users searching for "RV parks near me" or "campgrounds near me" in the Shawneetown area, Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground presents a budget-conscious option, with one review mentioning a rate of $50 per night. It's advisable to contact the park directly at (618) 363-8343 or +1 618-363-8343 to inquire about current rates, availability, the status of amenities, and any specific concerns regarding the presence of pets. Speaking with the owners or management directly can provide the most up-to-date information and help potential guests make an informed decision based on their individual needs and preferences.
While one reviewer expresses a desire for more from a campground at the mentioned price point, the other highlights the hospitality and potential of the location. This suggests that Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground might be in a transitional phase or that different travelers value different aspects of their camping experience. For those seeking a no-frills location primarily for its hookups and proximity to natural attractions, and who are less concerned about extensive amenities or potential noise, Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground could be a viable option. However, those seeking a more amenity-rich or quieter environment might want to explore other "RV parks near me" in the broader Southern Illinois region before making a final decision.
In conclusion, Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground offers a location with full RV hookups and convenient access to the Garden of the Gods and Cave in Rock. While some guests have praised the hospitality and potential of the park, others have raised concerns about the lack of certain amenities and the presence of a significant number of dogs. Potential visitors are encouraged to weigh these factors and contact the park directly for the most current information to ensure it meets their specific needs and expectations for their camping experience in Southern Illinois.

Fiedlerland RV Park & Campground Reviews
Positives: Full hook ups and only about 34 mins from Garden of the Gods and Cave in Rock, which were both awesome.Negatives: basically everything else. There was no welcome packet, no bathhouse or laundry that we saw, the dumpster on site is chained so I'm not even sure if we were supposed to use it. I expect more from a campground at $50 a night. The worst thing is there is a long term tennant who has 15 beagles (not exaggerating) and they are outside in a little fenced area and they bark constantly. When we arrived and I was walking my senior deaf dog, 2 of them jumped the fence and rushed at us barking aggressively. I picked up my dog because she doesn't even hear them approaching and they are clawing up my legs trying to get at her. This is obviously not the owner of the campgrounds fault, however I wish I would have known before we decided to stay here. Would not recommend this camp.
Mar 25, 2025 · Vali ReinhardtStill a diamond in the ruff but rapidly approaching 5 stars. Genuine friendship and hospitality abound at this camp site. Great for RVs looking for hookups and perfect for camping bikers looking for an accommodating base to jettison the trailer or camping gear for a few days while exploring the many natural and historical wonders offered within easy riding distances. The roads and scenery in the area are amazing and this is the best place to rest weary bones whether you’re just passing through for one night or making it a destination for one of the many special events held at the campground or nearby.
Jun 14, 2017 · Gar LongworthFor this many stars you might expect a high end RV Resort. But it's the opposite and that what makes it awesome. Was trailering my boat and needed a place to stop for a couple days and Tim the owner was completely accommodating and super helpful, doing whatever it took to make my stay comfortable.
Jul 18, 2020 · George RichardsonGreat place to stay. Not much around for entertainment but there is a really good bar / food place in town .
Oct 02, 2024 · Darrell StewartThis was our first visit to Fiedlerland, and we were NOT disappointed. My mom and I decided on a last minute roadtrip to view the eclipse. We were pleasantly surprised at this little slice of heaven! If you're looking for a chill spot to unwind, THIS is the place to go. It was nice and quiet and noticeably clean. The scenery was beautiful. There is a shower/bathroom pod that was clean and well-lit. Each site appeared to have water and electric which was a huge perk. The hosts were great. Very friendly and accommodating. My mom even got a golf cart tour from a cute little worker! Will definitely be back!!
