Gateway RV Park Introduce
For those searching for "RV parks near me" in the picturesque Roaring Fork Valley, Gateway RV Park in Carbondale, Colorado, stands out as a highly recommended destination. Located at 640 Co Rd 106, Carbondale, CO 81623, USA, this park provides a unique blend of natural beauty and convenient access to some of Colorado's most sought-after attractions. You can contact them at (970) 379-8151 or via mobile at +1 970-379-8151. Gateway RV Park operates seasonally, typically from May 1 to October 1, weather permitting, making it a prime spot for summer and early fall adventures.
The environment at Gateway RV Park is a significant draw. It's nestled along the scenic Roaring Fork River, offering many sites with breathtaking river views. One customer review enthusiastically describes spot 19 as the "BEST spot IMHO," feeling "perched on our own hill with the Roaring Fork River as our backyard," highlighting the stunning view and the soothing sound of the river. The park also boasts mountain views, with some guests reporting sightings of elk nearby, further enhancing the natural appeal. Despite being near the highway, the park is surprisingly quiet, especially in the evenings, creating a peaceful atmosphere for campers. The smaller size of the campground contributes to a sense of tranquility, with one reviewer noting "no shenanigans," suggesting a calm and respectful environment.
Gateway RV Park offers 18 RV sites, all equipped with full hookups, including 50/30/20 amp electric service, water, and sewer connections. Each RV site also includes a double 110-volt outlet, a fire ring, and a picnic table, providing essential amenities for a comfortable stay. While propane is not available at the park, the comprehensive hookups ensure a convenient experience. For those who enjoy camping in tents, there is one designated small Group Tent area, but individual tents and car camping are generally not permitted at the RV sites (1-19). This policy ensures that the RV sites are used specifically for their intended purpose, maintaining order and space.
The services at Gateway RV Park are designed to enhance the guest experience. Free WiFi is available throughout the park, allowing guests to stay connected. The park provides restrooms and showers, which are noted to be clean. However, one review mentions that the women's restroom has toilets "side by side with curtains for doors," which may not offer optimal privacy for some, suggesting guests might prefer using their own RV facilities for "business." Despite this, the cleanliness of the facilities is consistently praised by visitors, and they are private enough for showering. The presence of friendly and helpful camp hosts is a recurring theme in reviews, contributing significantly to the positive atmosphere and ensuring guests feel welcomed and assisted during their stay.
A key feature of Gateway RV Park is its strategic location. It serves as an excellent base for exploring the diverse attractions of the Roaring Fork Valley. Carbondale's historic downtown business district is just a short 20-minute walk away. The park also offers easy walking access to the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority (RFTA) bus transit system, which provides convenient travel between Glenwood Springs and Aspen, with stops in Carbondale and Basalt. This public transport option is a significant advantage for those who wish to explore without driving their RV. Aspen is accessible up-valley, and Glenwood Springs, famous for its hot springs and adventure park, is about 15-20 minutes away by car. The park is also directly adjacent to the paved Rio Grande bike trail, a 42-mile multi-use path connecting Aspen to Glenwood Springs, offering fantastic opportunities for biking and walking. Additionally, the Red Hill hiking and biking trails are located across the road, providing more options for outdoor enthusiasts. The park also boasts a public boat launch below the river sites, providing direct access to the lower Roaring Fork River for float fishermen and other water activities.
However, an objective introduction also includes potential drawbacks mentioned by guests. While the park is generally quiet, river spots do have a road to a public boat launch below them. This unpaved road experiences traffic throughout the day, and "trailers bang loudly as they hit potholes," which can be "quite jarring at 7 am." This indicates a potential for early morning noise for those in river-facing sites. Another point of feedback concerns cell service; while AT&T coverage is generally good, Verizon coverage is noted as "not very good." For those reliant on internet access, Starlink can be used in some spots, offering a viable alternative. The maximum stay duration at Gateway RV Park is two weeks, after which guests must vacate for seven nights before re-booking, ensuring that it remains a seasonal camping destination rather than a long-term residential park.
Promotional information emphasizes the park's appeal as a "unique camping experience that combines natural beauty with essential amenities." It prides itself on being a "peaceful retreat" conveniently located near "stunning natural features, swimming holes, and outdoor activities that cater to adventure seekers and relaxation enthusiasts alike." The park is pet-friendly, with the request that pets be kept on a leash and cleaned up after. Prohibitions include fireworks, aerial unmanned drones, model aircraft, and rockets without prior Town approval, especially given proximity to an airport, requiring Air Traffic Controller permission for drones. The park does not accept mail or package deliveries (US Mail, UPS, FedEx), so guests need to plan accordingly for their mail needs during their stay.
In conclusion, Gateway RV Park in Carbondale, CO, presents itself as an excellent choice for those searching for "RV parks near me" who value scenic beauty, convenience, and a welcoming atmosphere. Its location along the Roaring Fork River, with mountain views and easy access to outdoor recreation and major attractions like Aspen and Glenwood Springs, makes it highly desirable. The park offers essential amenities, including full hookups, free WiFi, and clean facilities, supported by friendly camp hosts. While there might be some noise from the boat launch road for certain sites and varying cell service, the overall positive experiences and the blend of natural tranquility with accessible adventure make Gateway RV Park a highly recommended seasonal destination for RVers in the heart of Colorado's Rocky Mountains.

Gateway RV Park Reviews
We stayed for 10 days at spot 19 which is the BEST spot IMHO. We felt like we were perched on our own hill with the Roaring Fork River as our backyard. Pros: The view and the sound of the river. We loved that it's a smaller campground so no shenanigans, and you're immediately met by lovely camp hosts. Spots are pretty level. It's very quiet despite being near the highway. While the hwy is busy during the day, it does quiet down in the evening. It's a convenient spot to visit both Aspen and Glenwood Springs. We also drove Independence Pass. Cons: River spots have the road to a public boat launch below it and ppl speed in and out all day long. The trailers bang loudly as they hit potholes in the unpaved road which is quite jarring at 7am. While the showers are fine and private enough, the toilets in the women's restroom are side by side with curtains for doors. Not very private, so plan to use your trailer for business. They are clean though.
Aug 24, 2023 · Michelle Martini-BrownGreat little campground overlooking the roaring fork river with Mountain View’s. We saw some elk nearby. Camp hosts were nice and helpful. Bathrooms were clean. It’s convenient to Carbondale and Glenwood Springs is about 15-20 minutes by car. Verizon coverage isn’t very good. AT&T is pretty good. You can use Starlink in some of the spots.
Jul 15, 2023 · Joanna PahlowWe had a great time in this peaceful campground. Beautiful views! We had 2 RVs staying here and would happily come back. It has a great location and easy access to the Rio Grande Trail. We were able to make easy trips to explore the cute towns of Glenwood Springs, Carbondale, Basalt and Aspen. Lots of fishing spots to try. The only downside was the road noise, which wasn't too bad.
Oct 11, 2020 · M CashattBeautiful view of the mountain and close to the trail and river with the boat launch. Very nice location and nice RV park with full hook up. Stayed for 6 days and definitely coming back.
May 02, 2024 · Gianna FilipsNice city run RV park with 'double wide' sites so you have some room from your neighbors. Full hookups, electric/water only spots. Next to boat launch on the Roaring Fork River. Next to the bike trail that runs Glenwood to Aspen.
