Mallard Bend RV Resort Introduce
If you are searching for "RV parks near me" in the Sheridan, Illinois area, Mallard Bend RV Resort, located at 2838 N 4351st Rd, is one option to consider. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the RV park based on the information available from online customer reviews, addressing its environment, services, and features, while also noting significant concerns raised by potential and current visitors.
Mallard Bend RV Resort can be contacted at (815) 378-2427 or +1 815-378-2427 for inquiries. One positive review describes the campground as "awesome," highlighting spacious sites located right by the river. This suggests a potentially scenic and desirable environment for those who enjoy waterfront camping. The reviewer also mentions that the campground was clean and featured both a pond and a heated outdoor pool for swimming, indicating recreational amenities that could enhance the camping experience for families and individuals alike.
However, the majority of the recent reviews express significant concerns regarding communication and accessibility. Several potential campers reported difficulties in getting in touch with the resort. One individual mentioned calling and leaving voicemails on two separate occasions, two days apart, without receiving any return call. Another attempted to make a reservation through the website but also reported no response. This lack of communication can be a major deterrent for prospective visitors and suggests potential issues with the park's responsiveness to inquiries.
Adding to these concerns, one reviewer who took the initiative to drive to the location shared a negative experience regarding the park's accessibility. They described the road leading to the park as "very bumpy, pothole, washboard," indicating potentially difficult driving conditions for RVs and other vehicles. Upon arriving at the gate, the reviewer found the office unattended at 3 pm on a Friday, with no staff present despite the presence of other campers within the park. This lack of on-site staff during typical business hours raises questions about the park's management and availability to assist guests.
The reviewer who visited the seemingly unattended park expressed frustration at the lack of a returned phone call, stating that it "would have been nice." This reinforces the earlier concerns about poor communication. Another potential camper, who also failed to receive a response to their inquiries, suggested that the park should remove its listing from the internet if it was not interested in accommodating more campers.
In a follow-up comment, this latter reviewer mentioned that the owner responded to their initial feedback by stating that it was a seasonal site and that the reviewer had inquired about a one-month stay. The reviewer pointed out that a simple phone call or email explaining this would have been preferable to silence, highlighting a continued issue with communication and the potential for misunderstandings due to the park's lack of responsiveness.
Based on these reviews, the environment of Mallard Bend RV Resort appears to have some appealing aspects, particularly the riverfront sites and the presence of a pond and a heated outdoor pool. The cleanliness of the campground, as mentioned by one positive reviewer, is also a significant plus. However, these potential benefits are overshadowed by serious concerns regarding accessibility due to the poor condition of the access road and significant issues with communication and the apparent lack of on-site management during certain times.
Regarding services and features, the positive review indicates the presence of riverfront sites with "plenty of space," suggesting potentially well-sized camping areas. The availability of a pond and a heated outdoor pool are notable recreational features. However, the negative reviews raise questions about the reliability of other services, such as check-in procedures and the availability of staff to assist campers. The lack of responsiveness to inquiries also suggests potential shortcomings in customer service.
Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the fact that potential campers struggled to get in touch or make reservations suggests that the park may not be actively seeking new bookings or may have operational challenges affecting its ability to manage inquiries and reservations effectively. The owner's explanation about seasonal availability, while a potential reason for the lack of response in one case, underscores the importance of clear communication regarding the park's operating schedule and booking procedures.
To summarize the objective findings based on the available reviews, Mallard Bend RV Resort offers a potentially attractive environment with riverfront access, a pond, and a heated pool. However, prospective visitors should be aware of significant concerns regarding the poor condition of the road leading to the park and consistent reports of a lack of responsiveness to phone calls and website inquiries. The apparent absence of on-site staff during certain hours also raises questions about the level of service and support available to campers.
For anyone still considering Mallard Bend RV Resort, it is strongly recommended to:
- Attempt to contact the park management by phone at (815) 378-2427 or +1 815-378-2427 and persist until you receive a response to clarify their availability, booking procedures, and the condition of the access road.
- Inquire specifically about the park's operating season and whether it accommodates monthly stays, as there seems to have been confusion regarding this.
- If possible, seek more recent reviews or information from other sources to determine if the issues with communication and accessibility have been addressed.
In conclusion, while Mallard Bend RV Resort may offer some appealing natural features and amenities, the negative feedback regarding accessibility and, most notably, the lack of communication and apparent staffing issues should give potential visitors pause. It is crucial to obtain clear and direct information from the park management before making any reservations or traveling to the location to ensure a satisfactory camping experience. The current online reviews suggest a need for significant improvement in customer communication and infrastructure maintenance.

Mallard Bend RV Resort Reviews
This was an awesome campground. Our site was right by the river with plenty of space. The campground was clean and had a pond and a heated outdoor pool for swimming.
Jun 16, 2017 · Christian WietholtI called looking for a spot. Went to voice mail. I called again 2 days later. Same thing. No return call. I went to reserve on website. No response. I had a little extra time and took a drive to see if it was really there.WOW! A very bumpy, pothole, washboard road lead to the park. Walked around the gate to get to the office. No one was there. 3 pm on a friday and no one there, other than campers. No staff. At least they could have returned my call. That would have been nice.Take your site off the internet if you don't want anymore campers.I'd like to comment on the park itself, but we couldn't get in. The owner responded to this and said it was a seasonal site. Well, I wanted one month. It would have been nice to get a response before I wrote this review. Simple phone call or email would have been better than silence.
Jun 24, 2023 · R DIGREGORThe campground is nice bathrooms are average pool is great, activities for children some weekends. Overall experience is just not great price to tent camp 60 dollars .. manager Mike is unprofessional and wasn't very accommodating for the second time. Mallard bend has over booked our cabin stay only to steer us to a tent site more than once. Rain kept us away Fri night returning sat to find them cancelling our res, the story goes on... Like the campground but poor management
Oct 10, 2017 · MattAwesome owner and staff. Very friendly and makes you feel welcomed. Clean facility and beautiful camping area and pool area... All around clean and will definitely be returning....thank you Laurie for taking us in last minute on Fathers Day weekend after we went to hideaway lakes and we refused to stay there... You could have turned us away because of the short notice but you didn't and found us a site.... Thank you again....
