#1 Ammons Branch Campground Introduce
For local users in search of a reliable and frequently visited camping destination within the 'camping near me' category, #1 Ammons Branch Campground, located in Highlands, NC 28741, USA, presents a straightforward option for those seeking a more rustic outdoor experience. Situated in a natural setting, this campground has garnered attention from local campers who appreciate its fundamental offerings and convenient location within the Highlands area. While specific details regarding extensive services or promotional information are limited based on the provided reviews, we can compile an objective introduction based on the available feedback.
The environment surrounding #1 Ammons Branch Campground appears to be a key aspect that draws visitors. One recurring positive mention is the presence of a "small creek close to the campground." The proximity to a natural water source can enhance the camping experience, offering opportunities for peaceful sounds, potential wildlife viewing, and a refreshing natural element to the surroundings. While the reviews don't elaborate on the specific type of environment (e.g., forest, mountain), the presence of a creek suggests a natural and potentially scenic setting that appeals to those looking to immerse themselves in the outdoors near Highlands.
In terms of services and features, the information gleaned from the user reviews is somewhat basic but provides essential insights. The presence of an "outhouse" is noted by both reviewers, indicating the availability of a rudimentary restroom facility. One reviewer suggests that the outhouse "needs a little more maintenance" and advises bringing personal toilet paper. In contrast, the other reviewer found the outhouse to be "really nice." This discrepancy in opinion highlights the importance of being prepared for varying conditions in more basic campgrounds. It's advisable for potential visitors to have realistic expectations regarding restroom facilities at #1 Ammons Branch Campground.
A significant and noteworthy feature mentioned in one of the reviews is the presence of a "bear proof trashcan." This is a crucial amenity in areas where wildlife, particularly bears, may be present. The availability of a secure trash disposal system contributes to both the safety of campers and the preservation of the natural environment by preventing animals from accessing food waste. This suggests that the campground management is aware of and taking steps to mitigate potential human-wildlife conflicts, which is a positive aspect for those concerned about camping safely in bear country.
The fact that one reviewer states, "Ammons branch is always a go to for me," indicates a level of consistent satisfaction and reliability that keeps local campers returning. This suggests that despite any potential shortcomings, the campground offers a fundamental camping experience that meets the needs of certain users in the Highlands area. It implies a familiarity and perhaps a sense of comfort or convenience that makes it a preferred choice for regular campers.
The other reviewer mentioning having "a great time here" further reinforces the positive aspects of the campground, despite the contrasting opinion on the outhouse condition. This suggests that the overall experience at #1 Ammons Branch Campground can be enjoyable, likely due to its natural setting, the presence of the creek, and the availability of essential amenities like the bear-proof trashcan.
Based on the limited information, it's challenging to provide extensive details on additional services or specific promotional offers. The reviews focus primarily on the basic facilities and the natural environment. It's reasonable to infer that #1 Ammons Branch Campground likely offers a more primitive camping experience compared to campgrounds with more developed amenities. Campers planning to stay here should be prepared for a more self-sufficient approach, potentially needing to bring their own supplies and be comfortable with basic facilities.
For local users searching within the 'camping near me' category who prioritize a natural setting with a creek and essential amenities like an outhouse and bear-proof trash disposal, #1 Ammons Branch Campground in Highlands, NC, appears to be a viable option. The recurring visits of one reviewer and the positive overall experience of another suggest a campground that meets the needs of those seeking a more traditional and less developed camping experience in the area. While the condition of the outhouse may vary, the presence of a creek and a bear-proof trashcan are notable features.

#1 Ammons Branch Campground Reviews
Ammons branch is always a go to for me. The outhouse needs a little more maintenance but it’s not that big of a deal if you bring your own TP and such.
Aug 08, 2024 · Justin SutherlandWe had a great time here. The outhouse was really nice. And there is a small creek close to the campground and a bear proof trashcan.
May 08, 2022 · stefan eenjes (THAeenjes)Not a bad place with a composting privy and a bear dumpster. About 6 campsites are available but the only water source is a small stream located about 100' downhill of the privy. I brought in water.
Aug 25, 2017 · David Talley4 beautiful campsites. No fees. 1 has a very small stream behind it. Campsites are very close together. Each has a picnic table and fire ring. There is a vault toilet and garbage bins. We have Verizon and had at least 2 bars. Park Ranger was very pleasant and informative. Would stay again.
Aug 27, 2023 · Kristin PrattPit toilet was well stocked and relatively clean considering. With there were more sites. We have an rtt so best site for us was the group site. Glad we could hear the creek.
