Cherry Hill Recreation Area

SC-107, Walhalla, SC 29691, USA

Nice campground, bathrooms are okay. Nice to have a shower, even though you can't regulate the temperature. Some people are very inconsiderate. Had to endure 2 days of straight barking from 2 dogs. At one time they came roaming through my camp! Camp host did nothing. Also someone playing a 5 gallon bucket as a drum for several hours! I will return, just not on a holiday weekend and during the week! - Erik Gibbons

Cherry Hill Recreation Area Introduce

For local outdoor enthusiasts seeking a "camping near me" experience in a natural setting, Cherry Hill Recreation Area, located on SC-107 in Walhalla, SC 29691, USA, offers a Forest Service campground experience. You can reach them at (864) 638-9568 or their mobile number, +1 864-638-9568, for information about availability and potential regulations. As a Forest Service campground, Cherry Hill likely provides a more rustic and nature-focused camping experience compared to private campgrounds with extensive amenities.

The environment of Cherry Hill Recreation Area is characterized by its forest setting, typical of Forest Service campgrounds. Located in Walhalla, South Carolina, it is likely surrounded by the natural beauty of the region, which could include woodlands, potentially nearby trails for hiking, and a generally tranquil atmosphere away from urban areas. The specific features of the landscape, such as proximity to water bodies (rivers, lakes), scenic overlooks, or unique natural formations, are not detailed in the provided reviews. However, the designation as a Forest Service campground suggests an immersion in a natural, wooded environment, appealing to those who appreciate a more wilderness-oriented camping experience.

In terms of services and features, the reviews mention the availability of basic amenities such as restrooms and showers. While one reviewer described the bathrooms as "okay" and another noted they were "mostly clean but could use a little more TLC," the presence of these facilities is a significant convenience for campers. However, a notable limitation regarding the showers is the inability to regulate the water temperature, which might be an important consideration for some visitors.

One of the significant issues highlighted in the reviews is the potential for noise disturbances caused by inconsiderate fellow campers. One visitor recounted enduring two days of continuous barking from two dogs that even roamed through their campsite. They also mentioned another camper playing a five-gallon bucket as a drum for several hours. The reviewer expressed disappointment that the camp host did not intervene in these situations. This suggests that while the campground itself might be pleasant, the behavior of some visitors and the level of enforcement of campground rules could impact the overall experience. For those seeking a peaceful retreat, this feedback is crucial to consider, especially during peak times like holiday weekends.

Another aspect to note is the suitability of individual campsites for different types of camping setups. One reviewer mentioned site 7, stating that while it has been repaired and is no longer washed out as previously reported, it would still be a "tight fit for a camper trailer." This indicates that the size and layout of campsites within Cherry Hill Recreation Area may vary, and some sites might be better suited for tents or smaller vehicles. Additionally, site 7 is noted to be very close to the restrooms, which could be a convenience for some but might also lead to increased foot traffic and potential noise.

The reviews do not provide information about other potential services or features that might be available at Cherry Hill Recreation Area. Common amenities at Forest Service campgrounds can include picnic tables, fire rings or designated cooking areas, and potentially access to hiking trails or other recreational activities within the surrounding forest. However, without specific mentions in the reviews, we cannot confirm the presence or condition of these features at this particular campground. Similarly, there is no information provided regarding the availability of water hookups, electrical connections, or dump stations, which are more common in private campgrounds.

Regarding promotional information, the provided text does not contain any details about special offers, discounts, or seasonal promotions for Cherry Hill Recreation Area. Forest Service campgrounds typically have a set fee structure, which might vary depending on the site and the time of year. Local users would need to contact the campground directly or visit the relevant Forest Service website for information on camping fees and any applicable permits or reservations.

In summary, Cherry Hill Recreation Area offers a natural, forest-based "camping near me" experience in Walhalla, South Carolina. It provides basic amenities such as restrooms and showers, although the shower temperature is not adjustable, and the cleanliness of the facilities might vary. A significant concern raised by a reviewer is the potential for noise disturbances from inconsiderate campers and the apparent lack of intervention by the camp host in the reported incidents. Additionally, the suitability of campsites for different types of camping equipment can vary, with at least one site noted as being a tight fit for a camper trailer. While the natural setting is likely appealing to those seeking a rustic outdoor experience, potential visitors should be aware of these considerations, particularly regarding noise and site limitations. For a quieter experience, one reviewer suggested avoiding holiday weekends and potentially visiting during the week. To obtain more detailed information about available amenities, site specifics, fees, and regulations, local users should contact Cherry Hill Recreation Area directly.
