This was our first time here for a Scouting event. We camped from Friday to Sunday morning. The grounds and amenities were very good. Everything is well kept and clean, flush toilets and showers. My only knock on this event was the camp- provided food in the mess hall. In a single word, the food was awful. Dry pancakes falling apart, Mexican corn for lunch was not really edible, chicken tacos were passable at best. We actually skipped dinner and made other plans. We skipped breakfast and had McDonald's instead. Go there for the fun and the amenities. Your Scout will love it. Just don't eat the food... LoL - J Koco

Camp Long Lake Scout Camp - Potawatomi Area Council Introduce

For local residents looking for "camping near me" in the St Cloud, Wisconsin area, Camp Long Lake Scout Camp, operated by the Potawatomi Area Council and located at N4350 Boy Scout Dr, St Cloud, WI 53079, USA, offers a camping facility with a focus on group and event camping. While primarily associated with Scouting activities, the campground's infrastructure and amenities may also be available to other groups and individuals seeking an outdoor experience.

Based on the available customer reviews, the environment at Camp Long Lake Scout Camp is generally well-regarded. Visitors have described the "grounds and amenities" as "very good," emphasizing that "everything is well kept and clean." This suggests that the campground management prioritizes the maintenance and upkeep of the property, contributing to a pleasant and organized camping environment. The natural setting in St Cloud, Wisconsin, likely provides a typical Midwestern landscape, potentially featuring woodlands, open areas suitable for activities, and of course, proximity to Long Lake itself, which could offer opportunities for water-based recreation, although this is not explicitly detailed in the reviews.

In terms of services and features, the reviews highlight some key aspects. The presence of "flush toilets and showers" is a significant amenity, often appreciated by campers for the added convenience and comfort it provides compared to more rustic camping facilities. This suggests that Camp Long Lake Scout Camp offers a more developed camping experience in terms of hygiene and sanitation. The mention of a "mess hall" indicates the capacity for providing food services, primarily for organized events like Scouting gatherings. However, it is crucial to note the strongly negative feedback regarding the quality of the camp-provided food during at least one event. Reviewers described the food as "awful," "not really edible," and "equivalent to gas station meals," leading some to seek alternative dining options off-site. This suggests that while a mess hall facility exists, the quality and reliability of the food service may be inconsistent or not up to the expectations of all users.

Further feedback raises concerns about the availability of essential supplies during events, including reports of running out of food, toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. These issues point to potential challenges in the camp's logistical management and supply chain during peak usage times. Additionally, there were mentions of "holes in camp supplied tents," indicating a need for potential campers to verify the condition of any rented equipment or consider bringing their own to ensure a comfortable and dry shelter.

Despite these criticisms related to food and supplies, one reviewer explicitly advises to "Go there for the fun and the amenities," suggesting that the overall experience and the available facilities (beyond the mess hall provisions) are worthwhile. This implies that Camp Long Lake Scout Camp offers other features that contribute positively to a camping trip, although these are not detailed extensively. These could include open spaces for activities, potential access to Long Lake for swimming or boating (if permitted and facilities exist), hiking trails within the property, and areas suitable for campfires (subject to local regulations and campground rules).

Given that the primary context of the reviews is Scouting events, the campground is likely well-equipped to handle large groups and organized activities. This could be a significant feature for local schools, youth organizations, or other groups looking for a venue for outdoor retreats, team-building exercises, or educational programs. The infrastructure is likely designed to accommodate a large number of campers and support various outdoor activities suitable for group participation.

Promotional information is not explicitly provided in the reviews. However, the fact that the camp is operated by the Potawatomi Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America suggests that their primary promotion would likely be directed towards Scouting units and related organizations within their council area. Local users who are not affiliated with Scouting but are interested in using the facilities for group camping or other events would need to contact the camp directly to inquire about availability, rates, and suitability for their needs. The positive mention of "well kept and clean" amenities could serve as a form of implicit promotion, highlighting a key benefit for potential users.

For local users considering Camp Long Lake Scout Camp for their "camping near me" needs, it is crucial to weigh both the positive feedback regarding the grounds and amenities and the negative feedback concerning food and supplies. If you are planning an event where you will be relying on the camp for food services, it would be prudent to have detailed discussions with the management about the menu, quality control, and contingency plans for ensuring adequate supplies. Alternatively, groups might consider self-catering options if permitted. Similarly, inquiring about the condition of any rented equipment, such as tents, is advisable.

To obtain the most accurate and up-to-date information, local users should contact Camp Long Lake Scout Camp directly at (920) 533-8258 or +1 920-533-8258. This will allow them to inquire about the availability for non-Scouting groups, the specific amenities offered to such groups, the current status of food services and supply management, and any other relevant details for planning their camping experience. Visiting the Potawatomi Area Council's website may also provide additional information about Camp Long Lake and its offerings.

In conclusion, Camp Long Lake Scout Camp in St Cloud, WI, offers well-maintained grounds and amenities, including flush toilets and showers, making it a potentially attractive option for "camping near me," especially for groups. However, potential users should be aware of past issues related to the quality and availability of food services and supplies, as highlighted in customer reviews. Direct communication with the camp management is essential to ascertain the current status of these services and to determine if the campground meets the specific needs and expectations of non-Scouting groups or individuals seeking a local camping experience.
