Albion Basin Campground Introduce
Looking for a peaceful "camping near me" experience nestled in the stunning mountains near Salt Lake City? Albion Basin Campground, located at Albion Basin Rd, Alta, UT 84092, USA, offers a tranquil escape into nature. You can reach them at (801) 742-2356 or +1 801-742-2356 for inquiries. Situated in the picturesque Albion Basin, this campground is renowned for its beauty and quiet atmosphere, making it an ideal destination for those seeking a serene mountain getaway.
The environment surrounding Albion Basin Campground is truly captivating. Located in the Alta area, known for its breathtaking alpine scenery, campers are treated to stunning views of rugged peaks, lush meadows (especially vibrant in early summer with wildflowers), and the pristine waters of Albion Basin itself. The campground's ground is described as packed gravel and tree needles, which is beneficial as it minimizes the potential for muddy conditions, ensuring a cleaner and more comfortable camping experience. The presence of mature trees throughout the campground provides shade and contributes to the overall peaceful ambiance.
While Albion Basin Campground offers a rustic camping experience, it provides essential services and features for a comfortable stay. Each campsite is equipped with a durable plastic-dipped metal picnic table, a fire ring for campfires and cooking, and a designated parking pad for your vehicle. It's important to note that the campground does not offer hookups for water, electricity, or sewer, making it best suited for tent camping and potentially smaller campers or camper trailers that are self-contained. Despite the lack of full hookups, the campground stands out for the quality of its pit toilets. These are described as the "nicest" by a visitor, housed in a modern building and remarkably odor-free, with the thoughtful touch of the campground host lighting a scented candle inside the toilet building at night, adding a unique element of comfort.
A key feature of Albion Basin Campground is its direct access to exceptional hiking opportunities. As mentioned by a visitor who hiked in August, the trails offer beautiful scenery, with some sections being moderately steep. While the late summer might see fewer wildflowers compared to early summer, the overall experience remains rewarding, especially with the stunning views of Albion Basin lake from both above and while hiking around its perimeter. This makes the campground a perfect basecamp for those looking to explore the natural beauty of the area on foot.
However, potential visitors should be aware of the road conditions leading to and through the campground. The road is reported to have numerous rills and washouts, necessitating slow and careful driving. These hazards are marked with orange cones to provide advance warning. While smaller campers and camper trailers have been observed in the campground, one reviewer advised against bringing larger campers due to the road conditions and potential difficulty in parking at the sites. Therefore, it's crucial to assess the suitability of your vehicle for navigating the access road.
Another point of consideration, as humorously noted by a camper, is the presence of squirrels and pine trees. Pitching your tent directly under trees where squirrels have been actively eating pinecones might result in unexpected wake-up calls from falling pinecone debris. While the squirrels themselves are described as "cute," it's wise to choose a tent site thoughtfully to avoid this minor inconvenience.
For local users searching for "camping near me" that offers a tranquil mountain setting and access to hiking, Albion Basin Campground is an excellent choice. Its quiet atmosphere, beautiful scenery, and well-maintained basic facilities, including the noteworthy pit toilets, contribute to a positive camping experience. The absence of hookups fosters a more traditional and immersive connection with nature. The proximity to hiking trails around Albion Basin lake adds significant recreational value.
While there is no explicit promotional information provided, the campground's inherent appeal lies in its natural beauty, peaceful environment, and access to outdoor activities. The positive reviews highlight the cleanliness of the facilities and the overall enjoyable experience. For those seeking a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life and a chance to immerse themselves in a pristine mountain setting near Salt Lake City, Albion Basin Campground offers a compelling option.
In summary, Albion Basin Campground provides a beautiful and quiet mountain camping experience near Alta, Utah. Its key features include scenic surroundings, access to hiking trails around Albion Basin, well-maintained tent sites with picnic tables and fire rings, and exceptionally clean pit toilets. While it lacks hookups and the access road requires careful driving, its tranquil atmosphere and natural beauty make it a highly desirable "camping near me" destination for tent campers and nature enthusiasts in the Salt Lake City area. Remember to drive slowly on the access road and choose your tent site wisely to avoid any falling pinecones!

Albion Basin Campground Reviews
Beautiful, quiet campground. Each site has a plastic dipped metal picnic table, a fire ring, and a parking pad. The ground is packed gravel and tree needles, so not much chance of mud. Our site, #23, has space for 3 tents. There are no hookups and just pit toilets, but the pit toilets are the nicest I've come across. Enclosed in a nice modern building, and they don't smell. The campground host lights a scented candle inside the toilet building at night. The road through the campground and leading to it has many rills and washouts, so drive slowly. Each is marked by orange cones to give you a heads up. I personally would not want to drive a camper through here, or try to park it at a site, but we saw several smaller campers and camper trailers here. Beautiful scenery!FYI- you might not want to pitch your tent under trees that have pinecone bits underneath where squirrels have been eating. You might get woken up earlier than you want by pinecones being dropped on your tent! Cute little squirrels, though.
Aug 16, 2024 · Susan SchreinerThis was a beautiful hike, not too hard, a bit steep in some spots, but still really nice. Going in August, you don't have as many flowers out, early summer there are more flowers and it's really colorful which makes for an enjoyable hike. The lake was beautiful as well, great view from both above looking down at it and when you go down and hike around it.
Aug 22, 2018 · Kirstin ReeseBeautiful, well maintained campground. The most clean, best smelling outhouses I've ever been in.

Sep 07, 2018 · John OrgillI mean…. Just gorgeous. They put up ropes this year that your aren’t to cross, BUT while walking we noticed they also put these really great areas, roped off with mats put down, and little pictures of a camera. They were in great spots to take pictures. It was lovely! I love it!
