My husband, boys and I have camped here as weekenders for about 3 years, before becoming a seasonal camper last year. Heres the goodl, decent size sites, trails to walk, bike & ride golf carts on.The bad - Most of our issues is with how management (Tara), runs things. This park could be a goldmine, it has lots of potential, but they are too worried about babysitting everyone. There are many reasons why this campground was empty and they still have available sites for this upcoming season. We signed a contract end of 2023 for 2024 season but upon arriving in 2024 much changed within our signed contract and when we questioned why it had changed or why we were not given an up to date contract we were labeled as difficult. Here are some of the issues we had this past season. Our adult son came to visit paid his $5 to get in, about a week later the campground charged his debit card for our electric bill because they stored it without his acknowledgement, after addressing it they never paid his bank fees for pulling money he didn't have - pretty sure this is illegal! No jumping in the pool, No drinks by the pool or hot tub even in covered cup, but seen several weekenders walking in the pool with beer cans - nothing said even after office staff did their wristband checks. Age of kids allowed in hot tub changed seemed like weekly, sign said 13 until our son was in it then they got a sign that said 13 on 1 line and 14 on line under it. Our boys were told they were riding their PEDAL BICYCLES too fast. We were told when signing the contract our children could drive our own golf cart but not rentals, so we allowed them to do so with us on the cart. We were told immediately they were not allowed to per their insurance company, so we respected this rule yet watched numerous weekenders allow their children to drive around all weekend without an adult and never once was told they can't. When we addressed this with management conveniently, Tara's response is they can't watch everyone. Yet the have cameras throughout the part watching certain peoples every move and chasing to their site to reprimand them like children over the most minor things like parking your vehicle on an inch of the grass. Their rates are insane for the amenities they offer. The playground is a bunch of ropes for kids to climb, they try to do events but fail at being involved with their campers to get them interested. Our conversation was overheard in the pool area with another family on how downhill the place is going with the new management and we were all called into the office like children being scolded. Told they can't have people overhearing anything bad about the campground - yeah because you can't fill it so you don't want to lose the people you who come. Towards the end of our season, while out on one of our many golf cart rides late afternoon on the trails we came up on a hunter in the tree stand with a loaded crossbow in camo gear in a tree stand. Called the office, one person seemed concerned about it but when we went into office Tara made excuses because it was her boyfriend saying he was scouting. We had people in our group that have hunted many times, this is NOT what he was doing but she lied. We had kids out there with us, this is a huge safety issue to allow hunting on the property where your campers are walking, on golf carts and biking. Seems like this could be a huge legal issue if the insurance company that they hid behind all summer got wind of this.I could go on and on with many more issues that we had, but there are several seasonals who were there for more than 10 years who chose to leave since the new management took place, keep that in mind. I'd avoid this campground at all costs, there are way better places out there that allow camping to be fun. I get rules need to be put in place but the manager, Tara takes it to a whole new controlling level. Looking forward to the upcoming season of real camping with great friends! - Bridgette Tenelshof

Alice Springs RV Park & Resort Introduce

For local users in the Ionia, Michigan area considering "camping near me," Alice Springs RV Park & Resort, situated at 5087 Alice Ct, Ionia, MI 48846, USA, presents a complex and somewhat contradictory picture based on the available customer reviews. While one reviewer recounts a positive experience with top-notch facilities and friendly staff, another, a former long-term seasonal camper, details numerous significant issues with the management and overall operation of the park. It is crucial for prospective visitors to weigh both perspectives carefully to make an informed decision about whether this campground meets their needs and expectations.

The environment at Alice Springs RV Park & Resort has the potential to be appealing. The mention of "decent size sites" and "trails to walk, bike & ride golf carts on" suggests a spacious layout with opportunities for outdoor activities within the campground. These trails could offer a pleasant way for local users to explore the grounds and enjoy some light exercise or leisurely rides. The fact that the park is described as having "lots of potential" implies an underlying natural beauty or spaciousness that could be attractive to those seeking a getaway in nature.

In terms of services and features, Alice Springs RV Park & Resort appears to offer standard amenities such as RV sites and possibly cabins, as one positive review mentions "well-maintained cabins." The presence of a swimming pool and hot tub is also indicated, suggesting recreational options for guests. The allowance of personal golf cart usage (with restrictions on rentals) adds a unique way to navigate the campground. However, the quality and management of these services and features are areas of contention in the reviews.

One positive review highlights "top-notch" facilities, including "clean restrooms and spacious sites." The staff is described as "incredibly friendly and helpful," and the check-in process is noted as "a breeze." The reviewer also enjoyed the "peaceful atmosphere" and "beautiful views," recommending the location for a relaxing getaway in nature and expressing an intention to return. This positive feedback suggests that some guests have had a very satisfactory experience at Alice Springs RV Park & Resort.

Conversely, a detailed and critical review from a former seasonal camper of three years (including one year as seasonal) raises serious concerns about the management, particularly an individual named Tara. This review alleges several significant issues, including changes to signed contracts without proper communication, questionable billing practices (unauthorized debit card charges with no reimbursement for bank fees), and inconsistent enforcement of rules around the pool, hot tub, and general campground behavior.

The inconsistencies in rule enforcement are particularly troubling. While some minor infractions by seasonal campers were reportedly met with strict reprimands (e.g., bicycle speed, parking slightly on grass), more significant issues involving weekenders (e.g., open alcohol by the pool, unsupervised children driving golf carts) were allegedly ignored. This disparity in enforcement created a sense of unfairness and targeted scrutiny for some long-term guests.

The negative review also raises a significant safety concern regarding the alleged allowance of hunting on the property while campers were present. The encounter with a hunter carrying a loaded crossbow on the trails, and the dismissal of this by management as "scouting" despite experienced hunters disputing this explanation, poses a potential risk to the safety of campers, especially children walking or biking on the grounds. The reviewer also points out the potential legal and insurance ramifications of such activities occurring on a campground.

Furthermore, the former seasonal camper describes the playground as inadequate ("a bunch of ropes for kids to climb") and the organized events as poorly executed due to a lack of management involvement. The rates are also deemed "insane for the amenities they offer," suggesting a potential mismatch between cost and value.

The fact that several long-term seasonal campers reportedly left the campground after the new management took over is a significant indicator of potential systemic issues. This exodus of experienced guests suggests a decline in the overall quality of the campground environment and management.

Given these strongly contrasting viewpoints, local users considering Alice Springs RV Park & Resort for their "camping near me" needs must exercise caution and conduct thorough research. While the campground may offer some appealing physical attributes and has provided positive experiences for some guests, the serious allegations regarding management practices, inconsistent rule enforcement, financial irregularities, and safety concerns cannot be dismissed lightly. It is imperative that prospective visitors contact the campground directly to seek clarification on these issues and inquire about current policies and procedures. Asking specific questions related to contract terms (if considering seasonal camping), rule enforcement, billing practices, and safety measures would be prudent.

Promotional information within these reviews is limited and somewhat contradictory. The positive review's mention of "well-maintained cabins," a "perfect" location for exploring the area, and a "peaceful atmosphere" could be seen as promotional. However, the negative review's description of an "empty" campground with "available sites" might suggest a need for increased bookings, but it does not constitute a specific promotion. Local users should inquire directly about any seasonal discounts, special offers, or packages available for the current season.

In conclusion, Alice Springs RV Park & Resort in Ionia, MI, presents a complex and potentially risky option for local users seeking "camping near me." While it offers some appealing features such as decent-sized sites and trails, and some guests have reported positive experiences, significant concerns regarding management practices, inconsistent rule enforcement, financial issues, and safety have been raised by others. Prospective visitors are strongly advised to proceed with caution, conduct thorough due diligence by directly contacting the campground with specific questions, and carefully weigh the potential benefits against the reported drawbacks before making a reservation.
