As you explore "camping near me," Allentown KOA Journey, part of the well-known KOA network, offers a range of amenities and a reputation for friendly service. However, it's important to be aware of specific site configurations and potential space constraints, as noted by recent visitors, to ensure a comfortable stay.
The Environment and Location:
The reviews do not offer extensive details about the immediate natural environment of Allentown KOA Journey. However, its location in New Tripoli, PA, suggests a setting within the broader landscape of the Lehigh Valley. The area is known for its rolling hills, farmlands, and proximity to various natural attractions and local towns. The campground's accessibility appears to be decent, as one reviewer mentioned it was "easy to get to." The overall atmosphere seems conducive to a camping getaway, though specific scenic features of the campground itself are not highlighted.
Services and Amenities:
Recent visitors to Allentown KOA Journey have commented on several of the services and amenities offered:
- Friendly and Helpful Staff: Both reviewers praised the staff as friendly and helpful, with one describing them as "extremely friendly, approachable, and helpful." This suggests a positive and supportive atmosphere created by the campground team.
- Clean Facilities: The campground is described as "very clean," although one reviewer noted that the facilities were "dated (not necessarily a bad thing)." This indicates a commitment to cleanliness despite the age of some structures.
- Spacious Bathrooms with Amenities: One reviewer specifically mentioned a "spacious" bathroom with "full shower amenities," suggesting well-equipped and comfortable restroom facilities.
- Full Store with a Game Room: The presence of a "full store" indicates on-site convenience for purchasing supplies. Additionally, a game room offers an entertainment option for guests of all ages.
- Full Hook-up Sites Available: For RV campers, full hook-up sites are available, providing water, electricity, and sewer connections.
- Easy In and Out Pull-Thru Sites (Mostly Buddy Sites): The campground offers pull-thru sites that are easy to navigate for larger RVs. However, a significant point raised is that most, if not all, pull-thru sites are "buddy sites," where two RVs park close together facing each other.
- Dog-Friendly with a Gated Area: For those traveling with pets, the campground is dog-friendly and features a "nice little gated area for dogs," providing a safe space for them to exercise.
- Wi-Fi (Implied): While not explicitly mentioned as an amenity in the reviews, Wi-Fi is often a standard offering at KOA campgrounds. Local users may want to confirm availability and any associated costs.
- Activities: One reviewer noted seeing "lots doing so and having fun" in activities, although they did not personally participate. This suggests that the campground may offer organized activities, particularly during peak seasons. Local users interested in specific activities should inquire about the schedule.
Features and Considerations:
Based on the feedback from recent visitors, Allentown KOA Journey has several notable features and some important considerations for local users:
- Buddy Sites and Lack of Personal Space: The prevalence of buddy sites, where campers are parked close together facing each other, is a significant concern raised by one reviewer. This arrangement may not honor personal space and can feel "weird" due to the proximity to neighbors. It also limits the space for outdoor activities at the campsite, such as enjoying a fire in chairs. Local users who value privacy and space at their campsite should be aware of this configuration and potentially inquire about more private site options.
- Site Size Limitations: Another key issue is the size of some campsites. One reviewer with a 20-foot trailer found their assigned site (site 1) barely long enough to accommodate both the trailer and their truck. Campers with longer rigs are strongly advised to request the longest site available to ensure adequate space.
- Clean but Dated Facilities: While the cleanliness of the facilities is a positive aspect, the fact that they are "dated" might be a consideration for some users who prefer more modern amenities. However, the cleanliness suggests good maintenance.
- Proximity to Local Establishments: The campground is conveniently located near local establishments that may be of interest to visitors. One reviewer mentioned a dog-friendly local bar ("leather outpost?") with good food and drinks, as well as the Retriever brewery, which was also well-regarded. This suggests that while the campground might be the primary destination, there are local options for dining and socializing.
Local users considering Allentown KOA Journey should weigh the positive aspects like friendly staff and cleanliness against the potential drawbacks of buddy sites and site size limitations, especially if traveling with larger RVs or prioritizing privacy.
The Local Environment of New Tripoli, PA:
New Tripoli is located in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, within the scenic Lehigh Valley. The area is characterized by a mix of rural landscapes, including farmland and wooded areas, and is close to the Pocono Mountains region, offering opportunities for outdoor recreation such as hiking, fishing, and exploring state parks. The Lehigh Valley is also home to various historical and cultural attractions, as well as the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, providing access to urban amenities and events.
Local users staying at Allentown KOA Journey might find it a convenient base for exploring the natural beauty and attractions of the Lehigh Valley and the nearby Poconos. The proximity to local bars and breweries, as mentioned by one reviewer, also adds to the potential for enjoying the local scene.
Objective Assessment:
Allentown KOA Journey offers a generally positive "camping near me" experience, characterized by friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities (though somewhat dated), and amenities such as a store, game room, and dog park. However, potential local users should be aware of the prevalence of buddy sites in the pull-thru areas, which may impact privacy and personal space. Additionally, site sizes can be limited, so those with larger RVs should specifically request longer sites. The campground's location provides decent access to the surrounding Lehigh Valley and nearby attractions.
The mention of local dog-friendly establishments like a bar and a brewery adds a potential benefit for those traveling with pets and interested in exploring the local area. Overall, Allentown KOA Journey appears to be a well-maintained and service-oriented campground, but careful consideration of the site configurations and sizes is recommended when booking.
Promotional Information:
The provided reviews do not contain any specific promotional offers or discounts from Allentown KOA Journey. KOA campgrounds often have various promotions, such as seasonal discounts, loyalty programs (KOA Rewards), and special offers for longer stays or specific groups (e.g., military). Local users interested in any promotional deals should check the official KOA website or contact Allentown KOA Journey directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about current offers and how to take advantage of them. It's also worth asking about site preferences to avoid buddy sites if more privacy is desired and to ensure a site size that comfortably accommodates your camping setup.
In conclusion, Allentown KOA Journey in New Tripoli, PA, provides a "camping near me" option with friendly service and clean facilities. Local users should be mindful of the buddy site configuration for pull-thru locations and the potential for site size limitations, especially for larger RVs. Exploring the local area, including dog-friendly establishments, adds to the appeal. Contacting the campground directly for site-specific information and any available promotions is recommended to plan your visit effectively.

Allentown KOA Journey Reviews
Very interesting place. Overall experience was good, staff was friendly and helpful. Bathroom was spacious and full shower amenities. Full store with a game room. We visited April 2025. Our site 63 was big enough for 32 foot trailer. Full hook up available. Easy in and out pull thru site. The interesting part is that this site was a buddy site. We were 30 feet away from another trailer , facing each other and personal space was not honored. The neighbors were nice, but had people walking through our site, taking over a table we had to get back. I then realized most pull thru if not all sites were buddy sites. Campers facing each other close enough to make it weird. We didn't have a space to stretch out in chairs to enjoy a fire because of the closeness. I think I saw a few sites with a bit more privacy which I will look into if we stay again. Dog friendly with a nice little gated area for dogs. We would try another visit. Local bar- leather outpost?- Had good food, drinks and dog friendly. Retriever brewery was good too.
Apr 20, 2025 · Bob FafardA fantastic campground. Very clean but dated (not necessarily a bad thing). The staff were extremely friendly, approachable, and helpful. Location was decent and easy to get to. We didn’t partake in any activities but certainly saw lots doing so and having fun. My only issue was the size of the sites. My site in particular (site 1) was barely long enough to accommodate my truck and 20’ trailer. Anyone with a longer rig should request the longest site available.
Jun 16, 2024 · Dustin PomeroyWe just returned from a short weekend trip and had an amazing stay. What a great smaller sized campground! Pocono vibes without the extra driving. It has a little River running through the campground which adds to the overal feel. The kids enjoyed throwing rocks in. The restrooms are a bit smaller so be prepared to use your camper if you have a shower. It was just easier. It’s also located really close to the Lehigh Zoo. The drive in and out of the zoo was very scenic. Beautiful surrounding area. Great hiking as well. We would definitely return. If you have friends that enjoy camping you could book together. The pull through sites in the middle face each other and would be great to go with friends/family.
