Buckhorn Campground Introduce
For local residents exploring "camping near me" options in Tehama County, CA 96021, USA, Buckhorn Campground presents a lakeside setting that may appeal to those seeking outdoor recreation. However, it's important to consider recent feedback from campers to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current environment, services, and features before making a reservation or visiting.
The environment of Buckhorn Campground is situated in Tehama County, California, suggesting a natural landscape that likely includes the presence of a lake, given the mention of the lake being open in one of the reviews. Lakeside campgrounds often offer opportunities for water-based activities such as swimming, kayaking, and potentially boating, although specific details about these activities at Buckhorn Campground are not elaborated upon in the provided reviews. The presence of a lake can also contribute to scenic views and a generally outdoorsy atmosphere. However, one review mentions the inconvenience of carrying "beach stuff up and down the hill," indicating that some campsites might not be directly adjacent to the lake and involve some elevation change for lake access. While the natural setting of a lake in Tehama County could be attractive for those seeking "camping near me" with water access, potential campers should be aware of the possible terrain and distance to the lake from their chosen campsite.
Based on the limited information, the services and management of Buckhorn Campground appear to be areas of concern for some recent visitors. One reviewer expressed frustration over a lack of visible campground hosts to address issues such as alleged rule-breaking and bullying by another group of campers. This raises questions about the level of on-site management and their availability to ensure a positive experience for all guests. Another comment mentioned "workers" engaging in activities within the campground early in the morning, which was perceived as disruptive by the reviewer. Furthermore, there are complaints regarding the availability and maintenance of facilities. Specifically, while the lake was open, only the "literal campground bathrooms" were accessible, with other bathrooms reportedly "closed for repairs" without any visible repair work being done. A lack of toilet paper and uncleanliness in the open bathrooms were also noted. These points suggest potential shortcomings in the provision and upkeep of essential services at Buckhorn Campground. For local users looking for "camping near me" with reliable and well-maintained facilities and responsive management, these reviews indicate potential areas of dissatisfaction.
The features of Buckhorn Campground, as gleaned from the reviews, are somewhat limited and accompanied by negative feedback. The campground does have bathrooms, although their condition and availability have been criticized. The presence of a lake is a key feature, offering potential recreational opportunities, but access to the lake from some campsites might involve navigating a hill. One particularly concerning feature highlighted in a review is the strict enforcement of certain policies by a "ranger," including the confiscation of personal items left unattended for more than five minutes. This policy, as described, appears unusually strict and caused significant frustration for the reviewer. The same review also mentioned a policy against having "a wheel off pavement," which could restrict parking options for some vehicles or trailers. These strict policies, coupled with the reported issues with facility maintenance and management responsiveness, present a mixed picture of the campground's features. Local campers considering Buckhorn Campground as a "camping near me" option should be aware of these reported policies and potential limitations.
Currently, no promotional information is available for Buckhorn Campground in the provided text. Given the recent negative reviews concerning management, facility maintenance, and strict policies, it would be prudent for potential local users searching for "camping near me" to seek additional information and recent reviews from various online platforms before considering a stay. It would also be advisable to directly contact the managing authority of Buckhorn Campground (if contact information can be found online) to inquire about the current status of facilities, management presence, and the enforcement of campground rules. Without any positive promotional messaging or specific details about improvements being made, relying solely on the provided reviews suggests a need for caution and further investigation before choosing Buckhorn Campground for your next camping trip.
In conclusion, Buckhorn Campground in Tehama County, CA, offers a lakeside environment that might appeal to some local users looking for "camping near me" with water access. However, recent customer reviews raise significant concerns regarding the visibility and responsiveness of campground management, the maintenance and availability of essential facilities like bathrooms, and the strict enforcement of certain campground policies. Potential campers have reported issues with rule-breaking by other groups not being addressed, disruptive behavior by campground workers, closed and poorly maintained facilities, and unusually strict rules regarding parking and unattended belongings. While the natural setting of a lake in Tehama County could be attractive, the reported negative experiences suggest that local users should exercise caution and seek more up-to-date information and reviews from multiple sources before deciding to camp at Buckhorn Campground. It would be wise to inquire directly with the campground management about the current conditions and policies to make an informed decision about your "camping near me" experience.

Buckhorn Campground Reviews
I don't know what "boy scout troop" is here right now but they're happily breaking lots of rules and bullying other campers, and the host is nowhere to be found. Also apparently the "workers" here get to joyride around the campgrounds before the campers are up and about. Such grace! They really should post this as a campground-wide wakeup call by 7am 👎🏼And for the record, none but the literal campground bathrooms are open, despite the lake being open. They're "closed for repairs" with not a single person working on any of them. And the hosts "don't know the camping rules" even though they've been hosts for ages?!?What kind of silly racket is this? These "government employees" are doing what exactly?
Apr 17, 2025 · Emme KayStrict “policies”, don’t have a wheel off pavement, pulled up kayak on shore away from boat ramp for a couple hours to have lunch and “ranger” had dragged it a couple hundred yards across rocky shore and had loaded it in his truck, claimed any thing left for more than 5 minutes is abandoned. Maybe the bathroom should be a priority— no TP and toilet hadn’t been cleaned for a while. Nice place but prob not coming back, can’t carry beach stuff up and down the hill everytime I need to get something longer than 5 mins.
Mar 25, 2025 · S RossNice spot with some very nice campsites.Unfortunately most of the best spots are closed during the winter. The part that is open is still nice.
