Orland Buttes Campground Introduce
For local users in search of a "camping near me" experience that combines natural beauty with opportunities for outdoor recreation, Orland Buttes Campground, located at 19225 Newville Rd, Orland, CA 95963, USA (phone: (530) 865-4781 or +1 530-865-4781), offers a compelling option. Based on recent customer reviews, this campground is situated in a beautiful area with nearby walking areas and is considered a "hidden gem" for activities like mountain biking and hiking. However, it's important to note some reported maintenance issues and the absence of an on-site host. This introduction aims to provide a detailed overview of the campground's environment, potential services, and features, incorporating the user feedback to offer an objective perspective for prospective visitors.
The environment surrounding Orland Buttes Campground is described as "absolutely beautiful" with "lovely views," suggesting a picturesque natural setting. The proximity to a lake is implied by the mention of exploring "fingers and inlets" and a "trip around the lake," indicating opportunities for lakeside activities and scenic vistas. The campground is also lauded as a "hidden gem for mountain biking and hiking," suggesting a terrain that offers challenging and rewarding trails. The presence of a lake often contributes to diverse ecosystems, and the reviewer noted sightings of "Osprey, bald eagles, and deer," highlighting the potential for wildlife viewing. The availability of "good walking areas nearby" further enhances the appeal for those who enjoy leisurely strolls in nature. The campground is also noted as a "Good place for my dog," suggesting it might be pet-friendly, an important consideration for many local users.
While specific services are not extensively detailed in the reviews, we can infer some likely offerings based on the typical amenities of a campground. It's probable that Orland Buttes Campground provides designated campsites suitable for tents and possibly RVs (it would be advisable to inquire about site types and sizes). Each campsite likely includes a picnic table and a fire ring for campfires (subject to local regulations and fire danger levels). The mention of a "well water dispenser bibs" in another campground review in the same region suggests that potable water might be available at designated spigots, although this is not explicitly confirmed for Orland Buttes and should be verified. Restroom facilities are mentioned with a caveat: "The bathroom shower is broken and looks like it has been that way for a while," and "The fish cleaning sink is broken and has been wrapped with flagging tape so likely has been like that for a while." These indicate potential limitations in the provided amenities and suggest that some facilities might be out of service. The review also explicitly states "No host on site," which means campers should be prepared for a self-service experience and may need to contact the provided phone numbers for assistance or information.
The features of Orland Buttes Campground are primarily centered around its natural setting and the recreational opportunities it offers. The "good walking areas nearby" cater to those seeking easy outdoor exploration. The campground's reputation as a "hidden gem for mountain biking and hiking," with trails on the backside of the lake described as "fairly steep and not for the faint of heart," is a significant draw for more adventurous users. The presence of a lake with "a lot of fingers and inlets to explore" suggests opportunities for kayaking, canoeing, or simply enjoying the waterfront scenery, although direct water access for launching boats is not explicitly mentioned. The potential for wildlife viewing, including Osprey, bald eagles, and deer, adds to the natural appeal. The dog-friendly aspect is another notable feature for pet owners. However, the broken shower and fish cleaning sink, along with the absence of an on-site host, are important features to consider as they might impact the overall convenience and experience.
The promotional appeal of Orland Buttes Campground for local users seeking "camping near me" lies in its beautiful environment and the wealth of outdoor activities it offers, particularly for mountain biking and hiking enthusiasts. The lovely views and the potential for wildlife sightings enhance its natural charm. The dog-friendly aspect makes it an attractive option for campers who travel with their pets. The "hidden gem" designation suggests a location that might be less crowded and offer a more authentic natural experience compared to more well-known campgrounds. However, the objective information regarding the broken amenities (shower and fish cleaning sink) and the lack of an on-site host should also be considered by potential visitors.
Prospective visitors should be aware of the reported maintenance issues. The broken shower might be a significant inconvenience for those planning longer stays or those who value having shower facilities. The broken fish cleaning sink might be relevant for anglers planning to fish in the lake. The absence of an on-site host means that campers will need to be self-reliant and should have the phone numbers handy for any inquiries or issues. It would be prudent to call ahead to inquire about the current status of the amenities and to get any specific information about the campground and the surrounding area.
To make the most of a camping trip to Orland Buttes Campground, local users who enjoy mountain biking and hiking should definitely explore the trails on the backside of the lake. Those who appreciate scenic walks and lovely views will find the environment appealing. If traveling with a dog, the campground's pet-friendly nature is a plus. Campers should come prepared for potentially limited amenities, especially regarding showers and fish cleaning. Bringing extra water and ensuring they have all necessary camping supplies for a self-sufficient stay is advisable given the lack of an on-site host. Exploring the lake's fingers and inlets might offer opportunities for kayaking or canoeing if access is available (this should be verified). Wildlife enthusiasts should keep an eye out for Osprey, bald eagles, and deer.
The platform category "camping near me" encompasses a wide range of options, from highly developed RV parks to more rustic campgrounds in natural settings. Orland Buttes Campground appears to lean towards the latter, emphasizing its natural beauty and recreational opportunities. The reported maintenance issues and lack of an on-site host suggest a more budget-friendly or less intensively managed campground. For local users who prioritize a beautiful location and outdoor activities over fully functional amenities and on-site support, Orland Buttes could be a great choice, provided they come prepared and are aware of the current conditions.
In conclusion, Orland Buttes Campground near Orland, California, offers a beautiful natural environment with opportunities for walking, mountain biking, and hiking around a scenic lake. The potential for wildlife viewing and its dog-friendly nature add to its appeal for local users seeking a "camping near me" experience focused on outdoor activities. However, prospective visitors should be aware of the reported issues with the broken shower and fish cleaning sink, as well as the absence of an on-site host. Calling ahead to inquire about the current status of amenities and to gather any necessary information is recommended to ensure a well-prepared and enjoyable camping trip to this "hidden gem."

Orland Buttes Campground Reviews
Absolutely beautiful campground with good walking areas near by. Good place for my dog and lovely views. The bathroom shower is broken and looks like it has been that way for a while. The fish cleaning sink is broken and has been wrapped with flagging tape so likely has been like that for a while. No host on site.
Apr 13, 2025 · John ClokeOrland Buttes is a hidden gem for mountain, biking and hiking. The trails on the backside of the lake are fairly steep and not for the faint of heart. There are a lot of fingers and inlets to explore, which adds quite a bit of mileage to a trip around the lake.the campground is well-maintained. We saw Osprey, bald eagles, and deer.
May 05, 2024 · John ShanahanIt was late July, so it was hot... but what a nice campground. You can not get a camping pass at the machine. Only day passes, and annual memberships? Camping must be reserved and paid for on line. I did get great signal tho. Nice views of the lake. Epicsunset. And QUIET. super quiet. Couldn't hear the highway 9.8 miles away... So nice. All I could hear was the waves lapping at the beach, and the frogs. Lots of bugs, lizards, etc, but I slept like a baby.
Aug 05, 2024 · Fish RoweThis is a great place to go camping for boating, hiking and fishing. There is lots of grass and hiking along the shore is very fun. This is a go to campground. Watch out for burrs along the coast!
Jun 28, 2024 · Sam WorthingtonMy boyfriend and I stayed here a couple of nights ago. We were the only ones at the campground which was pretty cool. However, the experience was pretty awful and it’s mostly because of the bathrooms. We went to take showers and we were greeted by a plethora of spiders in both bathrooms. I’m talking hundreds of spiders everywhere; in the shower, the toilets, ceiling, sink, everywhere. The bathroom itself was also disgusting with one of the women’s toilets overflowing. It was like no one had come to service the bathroom in literal eons. There is also no lake access for swimming at this campground and there are tire spikes at the exit for some reason. The water was also pretty nasty. I think if this campground were properly and regularly maintained, it would be a great place to camp.
