For local residents in the Grand Rivers, Kentucky area and those near the Land Between the Lakes seeking an exceptional "camping near me" experience, Canal Campground, located at 1010 Canal Campground Rd, Grand Rivers, KY 42045, USA, presents an outstanding option. Based on recent customer feedback from April 2025, this campground offers a compelling combination of affordability, cleanliness, and unique amenities, making it a perfect choice for various camping styles.
The environment of Canal Campground benefits from its prime location at the northern end of the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. This region is renowned for its natural beauty, offering vast woodlands, diverse wildlife, and numerous opportunities for outdoor recreation. Being situated near the Land Between the Lakes suggests that Canal Campground is likely surrounded by scenic landscapes and provides easy access to the many attractions and activities available within this expansive recreational area. While the immediate surroundings of the campground aren't explicitly detailed, its proximity to such a significant natural resource implies a setting conducive to outdoor enjoyment.
Canal Campground boasts a remarkable array of services, particularly for its affordable price point. One of the most noteworthy features, highlighted in a recent review, is the availability of both electric (20, 30A) and water hookups even in the primitive sites. This is a significant advantage for those who prefer a more natural camping experience but still appreciate the convenience of basic utilities. The campground also offers a "very hot and clean" shower facility, ensuring a comfortable and refreshing experience for all campers. For added convenience, laundry facilities with a washer and dryer are available on-site. Furthermore, for those planning to enjoy the waterways of the Land Between the Lakes, Canal Campground features a "Boat Ramp," providing easy access for launching and retrieving boats.
The features of Canal Campground extend beyond the basic amenities. The recent review indicates that the ground at the campsites is either "gravel or paved," suggesting well-maintained and level areas for setting up tents or parking RVs. Campers can also look forward to ample shade, with the review noting "almost full" shade coverage at the sites, which is particularly valuable during warmer months. While Wi-Fi is not available at the campground, the connectivity for AT&T users is reported as "soso," meaning that while not robust, some cellular service is likely accessible. The campground offers a variety of sites, ranging from primitive to full hookup, catering to different needs and preferences. However, it's worth noting, as mentioned in a review, that while the main roads are well-maintained, some of the loop roads within the campground are "narrow, rough, and twisty," which might pose a challenge for very large RVs. It's advisable to inquire about site suitability when making a reservation if you have a larger rig.
One of the most attractive features of Canal Campground, as explicitly stated in the recent review, is its exceptional affordability. The fee for a primitive site is just $20 per day, with no additional reservation fee. This makes it an incredibly budget-friendly option for local campers seeking a quality experience without breaking the bank. The reviewer aptly summarizes the campground as "Cheap, clean, and beautiful. Perfect campground." This sentiment speaks volumes about the value and overall satisfaction experienced by visitors.
For local users in the Grand Rivers area, Canal Campground's location at the northern end of the Land Between the Lakes offers easy accessibility. The proximity to the Land Between the Lakes also means that campers at Canal Campground have convenient access to the numerous recreational opportunities available within the National Recreation Area, including hiking, fishing, wildlife viewing, and exploring historical sites.

The availability of a boat ramp further enhances its appeal for those wanting to enjoy the lakes and waterways of the Land Between the Lakes.
Local residents planning a camping trip to Canal Campground should be aware that while reservations are not required for primitive sites, it might be advisable to call ahead, especially during peak seasons, to ensure availability. For full hookup sites, reservations might be recommended or necessary. When contacting the campground at (270) 362-4840 or +1 270-362-4840, you can inquire about the different types of sites available, any specific guidelines for larger RVs, and any potential restrictions or recommendations based on the time of year.

Apr 22, 2025 · Kenji “Ken-D” YamadaCanal campground is at the northern end of the Land Between the Lakes. It's easy to get to, and the main roads are nice blacktop. However, most of the loop roads are narrow, rough, and twisty. There is a good choice of sites from primitive to full hookup. Some of the loop roads can be difficult for big rigs. Our stay was overall, very enjoyable.
Apr 09, 2025 · Gary MillerWe've camped here 3 times, a week at a time. Clean, beautiful, friendly. Has a beach, boat ramp, play structures, deer. It's reasonably priced, and includes water and electricity at each site. We bring out boat and have a blast!!!
Mar 26, 2025 · lynn boinSo many noisy golf carts parading by all day, and in the evening it's much worse. Camped here in our fifth-wheel for 4 nights. Its a pretty campground with lots of shade, but way too noisy.
Dec 09, 2024 · Room4TwoCamp site 87 was a pull through gravel site with plenty of length and width. Four bars AT&T. It had some shade except for the morning and late afternoon. This was a nice area with the exception of the sites being to close together. The bathrooms were clean but the showers had heavy amounts of what appears to be mold. It had easy access to the park and the roads were well maintained. I would recommend this camping area.
