Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground Introduce
If you're searching for "camping near me" in the Kentucky Lake area, the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground, located at 727 Gilbertsville Hwy, Gilbertsville, KY 42044, USA, offers a large and spacious park with a variety of camping options. Based on recent reviews, the campground has both positive aspects, such as the size of the sites and the helpfulness of the staff, as well as some environmental factors to consider.
One reviewer noted the "large spacious park" with a number of sites equipped with power and water hookups, making it suitable for RV campers. Additionally, the campground offers "lots of tent sites with no power," catering to those who prefer a more traditional camping experience. The presence of "several bath houses, one with laundry facilities" is a significant convenience for longer stays, allowing campers to maintain hygiene and take care of laundry needs on-site. The reviewer also highlighted that the campground host was "extremely helpful and friendly," which can greatly enhance a camper's experience by providing assistance and a welcoming atmosphere.
However, this same reviewer pointed out that their specific site lacked a picnic table and a fire ring. While the helpful host was able to provide a fire ring, the absence of these standard amenities at some sites is something to be aware of. The reviewer also mentioned that "deferred maintenance is evident throughout the park," suggesting that while the park has its merits, some areas may show signs of needing upkeep. For families, a "small playground" is available for children.
Another reviewer described the campground as "beautiful" with "spacious" campsites, echoing the sentiment of the first review regarding the park's aesthetic potential and the size of the camping areas. This suggests that the natural setting of the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park is indeed attractive and provides ample space for campers to spread out and enjoy their surroundings.
However, this second review also raised a significant concern regarding the ambient environment, stating that "the mining/ excavation goes on through the night and day. And then the trains come and go hauling the materials to their destination." The reviewer concluded that it felt "like sleeping in an industrial area" due to these ongoing noises. This is a crucial piece of information for potential visitors to consider, as noise levels can significantly impact the quality of a camping experience, especially for those seeking peace and quiet in nature.
Considering these reviews, Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground offers the advantages of a large, spacious park with various types of campsites (power/water hookups and no-power tent sites), multiple bath houses including one with laundry, and a reportedly helpful and friendly host. It also features a small playground for children. However, potential drawbacks include the possibility of some sites lacking standard amenities like picnic tables and fire rings (though a host might assist with the latter), evidence of deferred maintenance, and significant noise from nearby mining/excavation and train traffic.
For local users searching for "camping near me," this campground presents a mixed picture. If spacious sites and the availability of amenities like laundry are high on your priority list, and you are less sensitive to potential noise from industrial activities, this could be a viable option. The helpfulness of the host is also a significant plus. However, if a quiet and pristine natural environment is paramount for your camping experience, the reported noise issues might make this less appealing.
To make an informed decision, local users might want to contact the Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground directly at (270) 362-4271 or +1 270-362-4271 to inquire about the specific sites available, the status of amenities like picnic tables and fire rings, and to get a better understanding of the noise levels from the nearby industrial activities. Asking about the location of campsites relative to these noise sources might also be helpful.
In conclusion, Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground offers a large park with spacious campsites, catering to both RV and tent campers. Amenities include bath houses and laundry facilities, and the host is reported to be very helpful. However, potential campers should be aware of possible deferred maintenance and significant noise from nearby mining/excavation and train traffic, which could detract from the peacefulness of the experience. If you are looking for "camping near me" in the Gilbertsville, KY area and these factors are not major concerns, or if the spaciousness and amenities outweigh the noise issue for you, it may be worth considering. Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park Campground Reviews
Large spacious park with a number of sites with power and water. Lots of tent sites with no power. Several bath houses, one with laundry facilities. Host was extremely helpful and friendly. Our site had no picnic table and no fire ring. Our host was able to bring over a fire ring. Deferred maintenance is evident throughout the park. Small playground available for kids.

May 18, 2024 · James “BenO” FisherWe thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were looking for a quiet getaway and that is exactly what we got. The views are beautiful and the rooms are very clean and well maintained. The only thing that was the slightest inconvenience was that all the restaurant offered was a buffet, we were unable to order from the menu.
Oct 18, 2023 · Deb FoxKentucky Dam Village State Park , Gilbertville, KYThis is only a campground review because we arrived late and left early. There are many facilities in this park including a lodge , boat dock, golf course, etc.Arriving at night in the dark we had a challenge finding the campground. Info signs are few and far between and they don’t show up at night. Once in the camp ground we had no idea where to go because there are no signs saying which loop and the numbers on that loop. So we just picked a spot near the first bath house. I had already read reviews saying that 2 sites share electric and water and they were hard to reach without a real long ext cord. So we decided it wasn’t worth it to figure that out in the dark. The restrooms were clean snd spacious. There seemed to be 3 for the campground. Its a pretty campground with lots of old majestic trees. But no marker posts for each site and no picnic table or firepit at most sites. We did notice that along the perimeter sites had tables and firepits.
