Cherry Creek Campground Introduce
For local residents in and around West Yellowstone, Montana, seeking a picturesque camping experience through the 'camping near me' platform, Cherry Creek Campground offers an attractive lakeside setting. Located on Denny Creek Rd, West Yellowstone, MT 59758, USA, and reachable by phone at (406) 823-6961 or +1 406-823-6961, this campground provides a range of amenities and access to outdoor activities, making it a compelling option for those looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.
The environment at Cherry Creek Campground is highly praised by visitors, with its prime location right next to a lake being a significant draw. Many campsites offer beautiful views of the lake, enhancing the overall camping experience. The presence of mature trees likely provides some shade and contributes to a pleasant natural ambiance. Being situated in the West Yellowstone area, campers can expect to be surrounded by the stunning landscapes characteristic of this region, potentially including forests, mountains in the distance, and the serene waters of Cherry Creek Lake. The proximity to the lake not only offers scenic views but also provides opportunities for water-related activities. However, it's important to note that while the lake is a prominent feature, one reviewer explicitly advised against drinking the lake water, indicating that campers should bring their own potable water or a reliable water purification system.
In terms of services, Cherry Creek Campground appears to offer a good balance of essential amenities. Campers can expect well-maintained sites equipped with fire pits and picnic tables, providing the basics for cooking and enjoying meals outdoors. A notable feature, especially for tent campers in bear country, is the provision of bear-proof storage lockers at the campsites, ensuring the safety of food and other scented items. The availability of "spotless" bathroom facilities is a significant plus, contributing to a more comfortable camping experience. Additionally, trash receptacles are provided throughout the campground, making it easier for campers to adhere to Leave No Trace principles. However, a key service that is explicitly absent is a potable water supply. As mentioned earlier, the only water source is the lake, which is not recommended for drinking without treatment. Therefore, campers must come prepared with an adequate supply of drinking water or a reliable method for purifying lake water if they intend to use it. The campground also has a designated check-out time of 2 PM, particularly for the closer, more premium waterfront spots.
The features of Cherry Creek Campground cater to a variety of camping preferences. Its lakeside location is a primary feature, offering not only scenic views but also easy access to potential fishing and possibly paddling opportunities on Cherry Creek Lake, although these activities were only generally mentioned and not detailed. The availability of both single and double campsites near the water provides options for different group sizes, with the closer, more desirable spots having a slightly higher cost. The provision of fire pits encourages the traditional camping experience of campfires (subject to local fire restrictions), while the picnic tables offer convenience for outdoor dining. The bear-proof storage lockers are a crucial safety feature in this region, providing peace of mind for campers. For those looking for more budget-friendly or potentially more secluded options, one reviewer mentioned the existence of a couple of free camping spots located further up the road from the main campground, although these are subject to availability. The road leading into the campground is gravel and reportedly can be washboarded in places, but it is accessible to any type of vehicle, making it relatively easy to reach for local users.
As a local option within the 'camping near me' category, Cherry Creek Campground provides an accessible and affordable gateway to the natural beauty surrounding West Yellowstone. Its proximity to the lake and the availability of essential amenities make it a convenient choice for weekend getaways or longer camping trips for local residents. The cost of $20 per night, with a reduced rate of $10 for those with a Parks or Access Pass, makes it an economically attractive option. The presence of both standard and premium waterfront sites allows campers to choose based on their budget and desired proximity to the lake. The mention of nearby free camping spots further enhances the appeal for those seeking a more rustic or budget-conscious experience, although availability cannot be guaranteed. The combination of a well-maintained campground with access to natural attractions like the lake and potential hiking trails in the surrounding area makes Cherry Creek a valuable resource for local outdoor enthusiasts.
Regarding promotional information, the primary detail provided is the nightly cost: $20 for a standard site and $10 with a Parks or Access Pass. The waterfront single spots are priced at $16, and the double waterfront spots at $32. These rates appear to be the main pricing structure at the time of the reviews (mid-August 2023). There is no mention of any seasonal discounts, extended stay rates, or other promotional offers. Local users with a Parks or Access Pass should ensure they bring it to take advantage of the reduced fee. It's always advisable to check with the campground directly for the most current pricing and any potential changes or additional fees that might apply. The mention of free camping spots nearby can also be considered an alternative for those looking to minimize costs, although these are not part of the official Cherry Creek Campground and likely have no associated services.
In conclusion, Cherry Creek Campground near West Yellowstone, Montana, offers a beautiful lakeside camping experience with good sites, essential amenities like fire pits, tables, bear lockers, and clean restrooms. Its proximity to the lake provides scenic views and potential for water activities. While the absence of potable water is a key consideration, the affordable pricing, especially with a Parks or Access Pass, and the availability of both standard and premium waterfront sites make it an attractive option for local campers. Potential visitors should also be aware of the reported issue with mosquitoes, particularly in mid-August, and come prepared with insect repellent. The gravel road leading to the campground is generally accessible to all vehicle types. For those seeking a more budget-friendly option, nearby free camping spots might be available. Overall, Cherry Creek Campground offers a well-located and reasonably priced base for exploring the natural wonders of the West Yellowstone area.

Cherry Creek Campground Reviews
Nice campground right next to the lake. Good sites with views of the lake, fire pits, tables and bear proof storage lockers for those tent camping. Bathroom was spotless and there are trash receptacles also. No water taps..just the lake but I wouldn't drink it. The only reason I gave it 4 stars and not 5 is because it has the worst mosquitos I have encountered all summer. Was there mid Aug '23. Cost is $20 per night or $10 if you have a Parks or Access Pass. Road in is gravel and can be washboard pretty bad in places but any type of vehicle can get into the campground.
Aug 12, 2023 · Flying DutchmanThere are about 6 spots by the water pretty close quarters...these spots are $16 for the single spots $32 for the double, check out is 2pm. Bathrooms. Trash Cans. No Water aside from Lake.*But up the road are a couple free spots if they arent taken.
Aug 12, 2021 · Kate CloudFree camp, actually we arrived late but there is huge places for canping so we asked a guy if we can share the place with him. It is nice lake there and the road is not so terrible as for similar camps in Yellowstone area.
Aug 13, 2019 · Josef SvobodaFound this hidden gem after being disappointed with hoe commercialized the KOA's in the area were. A bit of gravel and dirt roads but we made it on two sport bikes. Nice big lots with a good lake! A lot of mosquito's though so be prepared for that.If you're looking for real camping this is the place.
Aug 01, 2018 · Keifer MorkenLooks like a nice place to stay in the summer. We we're here in September woke up to snow on the ground. Road in is unpaved but our Class C handled with out too much trouble. Max 16 days stay.
