Chesapeake Campground Introduce
For local residents seeking a campground in the Chesapeake, Virginia area, Chesapeake Campground, located at 693 George Washington Hwy S, Chesapeake, VA 23323, USA, with phone numbers (757) 485-0149 and +1 757-485-0149, presents itself as a community-oriented option within the "camping near me" category. Reviews from visitors offer contrasting perspectives, with one highlighting exceptional staff, security, and a welcoming atmosphere, while another reports experiences of rudeness and a lack of personality among some campers. It is essential for potential visitors to consider both viewpoints to form a comprehensive understanding of what Chesapeake Campground offers.
One extensive review from a long-term guest (since December 2022) paints a highly positive picture of Chesapeake Campground. This guest consistently praises the staff, specifically mentioning Leza, Pat, and Lance for running a well-managed campground with clear rules enforced fairly. The reviewer appreciates their approach in preventing "nonsense from campers" and treating everyone equally. Chris and Mike are also commended for their helpfulness and willingness to go above and beyond to assist with any issues. This strong endorsement of the staff suggests a management team dedicated to ensuring a positive and orderly environment for all guests.
The same reviewer highlights several amenities that enhance the camping experience. Their granddaughters particularly enjoyed the horses and the pool, indicating that Chesapeake Campground offers recreational activities suitable for families with children. The emphasis on security is also significant, with the reviewer noting the peace of mind in being able to walk around without fear, thanks to the visible presence of security personnel and staff who "rove around the campground often" to ensure adherence to rules and proper conduct. This focus on safety and security is a notable feature that may appeal to many campers.
For pet owners, Chesapeake Campground appears to be accommodating, with "ample room for your pets to get plenty of daily exercise" due to its location surrounded by the Dismal Swamp Canal and hundreds of acres of farmland. This proximity to natural spaces provides opportunities for walks and outdoor activities with pets. The campground's convenient location, being "close to the city," is also mentioned as a benefit, allowing for quick access to essential supplies and urban amenities when needed.
The sense of community at Chesapeake Campground is strongly emphasized by the long-term guest, who describes the "neighborly atmosphere" as "wonderful" and notes that "everyone is always willing to help out when needed even though you have never met." This spirit of camaraderie and mutual support can significantly enhance the camping experience, creating a welcoming and friendly environment. The reviewer contrasts this positive reality with "horror stories about camping at campgrounds," stating that their experience at Chesapeake Campground has been "nothing short of excellent." They attribute this positive experience to the "caring staff, friendly people, and the security you feel while staying here."
However, a contrasting review presents a significantly different perspective. This reviewer describes the people at the campground as "very rude nose up in the air." They recount an experience where they felt looked down upon for their "WORK TRAILER," even though they "spend bareilly anytime on the ground themselves." This feedback suggests that some campers may perceive a sense of judgment or unwelcoming behavior from others based on their camping setup. The reviewer advises, "If you want any kind of personality at your campsite don't go here," implying a lack of warmth or friendliness from some of the other guests.
Considering these two very different experiences, it is crucial for potential local users to weigh these perspectives. The positive review highlights a well-managed, secure, and friendly environment with amenities like horses and a pool, along with ample space for pets and a convenient location. The negative review, on the other hand, raises concerns about the attitude of some campers and a perceived lack of welcoming atmosphere for those with certain types of trailers.
Information regarding specific services and goods for sale at Chesapeake Campground is not detailed in the provided reviews. However, typical campgrounds often offer essential services such as water and electrical hookups for RVs, waste disposal, restrooms, and possibly shower facilities. Given the mention of a pool, it is likely that there are communal recreational areas. To get precise information about the available services and amenities, contacting the campground directly would be advisable.
Similarly, the reviews do not mention any specific goods for sale. Campgrounds often sell firewood, ice, and basic camping supplies. It is possible that Chesapeake Campground offers these conveniences, especially given its function as a longer-term stay location for some, as indicated by the first review. Inquiring with the staff about the availability of any on-site store or essential goods would be beneficial for prospective campers.
There is no promotional information included in the provided reviews. Local users interested in staying at Chesapeake Campground should contact them directly at (757) 485-0149 or +1 757-485-0149 to inquire about any seasonal rates, long-stay discounts, or other special offers that might be available. Given the positive feedback from the long-term resident, it might be a popular choice, so checking for availability and pricing is recommended.
In conclusion, Chesapeake Campground in Chesapeake, Virginia, offers a camping experience within the "camping near me" category that is characterized by a dedicated and well-regarded staff, a strong emphasis on security, and amenities such as horses and a pool. Its pet-friendly environment near the Dismal Swamp Canal and convenient city access are also notable advantages. The neighborly atmosphere is praised by one long-term guest. However, potential visitors should also be aware of a contrasting review that reports experiences of rudeness and a lack of welcoming behavior from some other campers. Local users are encouraged to contact Chesapeake Campground directly for detailed information about services, amenities, and any current promotions, and to consider both positive and negative feedback when making their decision.

Chesapeake Campground Reviews
I have been at this campground since December 2022 (Lot 60).First and foremost the staff is wonderful! Leza, Pat, and Lance run a tight ship and don’t allow for any nonsense from campers. They treat everyone equally and expect that everyone follows the campground rules. Chris and Mike are fantastic and will bend over backwards to help you with any issues that need to be addressed. My granddaughters loved the horses and pool and the security that you could walk around without fear of being harassed or taken. The security team and staff rove around the campground often and ensure that people are conducting themselves properly according to the set rules. There is ample room for your pets to get plenty of daily exercise as the campground is surrounded by the Dismal Swamp Canal and hundreds of acres of farmland. It is close to the city so you can get things you need quickly. The neighborly atmosphere is wonderful and everyone is always willing to help out when needed even though you have never met. I had heard the horror stories about camping at campgrounds but this place was nothing like the those stories I heard. My stay here has been nothing short of excellent; whatever bad could be said is easily dismissed by the caring staff, friendly people, and the security you feel while staying here.Thank you for a wonderful experience, kindness, and friendship over the past two years Chesapeake Campground Staff.Wish you the best!Gene and Wanda
Feb 17, 2025 · Eugene OcronPeople here are very rude nose up in the air. We spend bareilly anytime on the ground themselves but when we were there they turned their noses up at our WORK TRAILER. If you want any kind of personality at your campsite don't go here. Smh
May 03, 2025 · Faith RushLoved my 12 night stay here! Country setting with horses, pond, driving range, kayak rentals. Nice showers And super quiet. Did not use pool as it was off season. I would definitely stay again!
Nov 29, 2024 · Kellie MurphyPull through parking is available, and the scenery is beautiful. Some of the sites are kind of rough, as they are paved not stone, so the tree roots have lifted the pavement making it a bumpy pull in.
Mar 15, 2025 · Karen GoffJust recently stayed here and more than likely won’t go back unless things change. I will share the 3 good things first. 1)The location of the campground is great if you want to be in the country but close to the city. 2) Driving in and seeing the horses and being able to pet them is a nice feature. 3) Having access to Kayak across the street is great. On to the bad… 1) Looks like this place could be a trailer park in some areas. They mention your site can’t be messy, or look like you live there when checking in, but they obviously aren’t holding people accountable. It’s abundantly clear people live here, as sites look like trash, specifically sites MM, Z, and 24. Has more of a junkyard feel. 2)This place is also an RV storage facility as well and driving past it isn’t a pretty sight as many of them are all moldy, broken down, and look like they have just been abandoned. They really need to hold people accountable for how bad their campers/boats looks. 3) Their “church” looks like it will fall on top of you if you try to go in. 4) They advertise they have an exercise room but in reality there is nothing in there and looks like it’s been trying to be renovated for years. At least mention on the website that it’s temporarily not available. 5) The condition of the roads and some of the site driveways are horrible. There are large bumps in the pavement where tree roots seem to be coming through. Hard to get a level spot. 5) The condition of the laundry room looked dirty and the washers and dryers look like they are on their last leg. I chose to do laundry elsewhere. This place has potential to be a good place if they put beautification efforts in other places instead of just their grass.
