Chincoteague Bay RV Resort & Cottages Reviews
We spent 4 nights here from Thursday to Monday, and we were impressed with the place. The welcome center was nice and sold all kinds of camping things that you may have forgotten to things you may have run out of. Anything from pop-up hampers to stinky slinkys. The sites are a decent size with a picnic table and fire ring. The comfort station where the bathrooms and showers are were emaculate. There's a pool, tennis courts, playground, and food truck. They had activities for the kids. Someone came around all day to pick up trash. The place was not packed when we were there, but everyone seemed to respect the quiet hours. We were not waterfront, but we had a nice water view. We booked our next stay with a discount before we left, which was awesome. The only thing that I found disappointing was them charging a $25 fee to lock in the site you reserved. Isn't that the purpose of a reservation. The fee is nominal, but I still feel like that's a bit shady. So much so that I debated on whether or not to give 5 stars, which I rarely do. However, my husband influenced my decision because he liked the place, and we did have a great stay.
Apr 22, 2025 · Michelle MoodyVery nice campground and convenient to everything on the Island. Only downside is it is very windy there, at least in the spring when we visited.Excellent boardwalk along the water, sites are a good size, everything clean and well maintained. Office folks are extremely friendly and give out doggie treats. Second visit and would go back again.
Apr 23, 2025 · Mary Ellen SeveranceIt was our first time staying here and it overall was a good experience. My family and I stayed in the waterfront cottage and here were the pros and cons from our stay:Pros:*Friendly staff for the most part*Trash pickups several times a day*Playground for the kids* weekend activities for kids*Nice pool (a though it wasn’t opened yet)*Spacious cottage (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen and screened in porch)* food truck if you don’t want to go off the campground for food.* Large camp store with lots of items/ supplies (although prices are high, it was convenient)Cons:* Hot water heater - hot water didn’t work when we arrived and had to wait until maintenance came in the next day to repair. Even after repaired the hot water was limited, like you would have from a camper sized hot water heater.* Boardwalk in front of waterfront cottages/ water front campsites (noisy, constant traffic with people walking past, riding their bikes all day and night, kids running up and down unsupervised) it took away from the serene experience of sitting on your screened in porch and there is little privacy for as people are staring at you)* Dogs unleashed (dogs are supposed to be leashed at all times according to their policies however all weekend dogs were walking around without leashes) and dog owners not cleaning up after pets* trash around the campground - walking around the campground there were a lot of cigarette butts and bottle caps on empty campsites.* clean up after stay - the campground requires you to clean the cottages after your stay (you must take bed linens off bed, wash dishes, take out trash, put towels in shower, sweep the floors and the list goes on). If I wanted to clean I would have brought my camper or stayed home. I understand some minor cleaning but I mean what do you have housekeeping for? When we arrived there was dog hair on the linens on the bed so I am unsure if housekeeping just made the beds using the same sheets or new ones. Also, housekeeping doesn’t come in and stock towels, give you more toilet paper or linen, you must ask for them and then housekeeping gives you dirty looks.* golf cart rentals - while they are nice to have around the campground, too many campers allowed to let their children who are unlicensed drive them around. One of the neighbors we had allows their teenager who was unlicensed to drive the golf cart at night (after hours) and almost hit my vehicle. Apparently management said there is security at night /after hours but when we called the number for after hours no one answered the phone and we called multiple times. Never did I see security in the 5 days we were there. The campground overall is nice but could use a lot of work. Upon departure the lady at the front desk asked how my stay was and I offered some advice like putting up signs that clearly state you are not allowed to ride bikes or anything with wheels on the boardwalk and all I received was eye rolls and a smart comment of “they have been ordered” and “did you bring it to someone’s attention”.We did rebook for next spring but in a different location so maybe our next experience will be better.
Apr 22, 2025 · TerryThis is a new and very nice campground. The facilities are excellent and the staff is very friendly. The property has lighting at night and is inviting to walk around after dark. If you book here pay close attention to the cabin locations. They are giant view blockers. Our “waterview” site was more like a sliver of water view and cost $89 vs a $64 standard view. If we return in the future we will definitely opt for the standard view and save the money or go for the $158 waterfront sites that have a truly spectacular view. The first two photos show the difference between the two. The cabins look very nice from the outside and all have A/C no units in them. Even the ones that are not on the waterfront have a rooftop deck with glass railing so you basically get an unobstructed view. The roads are stone, not pavement which is not as nice but likely a requirement here for drainage and environmental. We had a chimney smoker behind us last night and the wind was blowing our way so that was unfortunate. Leads me to believe it is not a non-smoking campground.
Sep 21, 2024 · Bryan LilleyThe safari tents really are the perfect way for people who don’t camp to sort of experience it without losing basic comfort. We tent camp a lot and this felt like a real treat! The tents themselves are really nice and super sturdy. Other than some wind noises, the tents were a great choice. The area is close enough to town but also out of the way. Fantastic sunset views. There’s not a ton at the place to do. A basic convenience store that was great for stuff we forgot.A pool, a lengthy pier to walk, and a covered gathering spot with rocking chairs. All the stuff to do is the beach or in town. They have some activities for kids in the activity room which seemed nice. A bar would have been cool. There’s a food truck too but we didn’t visit that. The downside here was only the other guests.Lots of really awful country music and loud kids running up and down the boardwalk until midnight. This wasn’t the fault of sun outdoors. They have an 11 o’clock quiet hour on the website. Some parent let’s there kid scream at the top of their lungs well past that hours. But man some of these people are truly awful and their kids are a reflection of that.Overall we will stay again.
