Columbus Park

5700 Black Lake Blvd SW #62, Olympia, WA 98512, USA

4.0
Great place for kids. There is a lake that people can swim and play in all day. You can take your boat out and fish or weight board. You can also rent a canoe or row boat or a floating raft. Campgrounds are seriously close together, but it was not a nightmare. The staff were beyond friendly and kind. STaff spent entire days cleaning the grounds, so this place is the cleanest camp I've ever been to. Apparently, you can rent a space for the day with reservations and have a huge private party. Dogs are not allowed in the biggest part of the park where the grass is in front of the lake, so I had to leave our dog in the car while the kids played in the water. On a very hot day, this could be an issue. - Nosh Hed

Columbus Park Introduce

For local residents of Olympia, Washington, and the surrounding areas seeking a vibrant "camping near me" experience centered around lake activities and family fun, Columbus Park, located at 5700 Black Lake Blvd SW #62, Olympia, WA 98512, USA, presents an excellent choice. With contact phone numbers (360) 786-9460 and +1 360-786-9460 readily available, local users can easily inquire about reservations, availability, and specific details to plan their visit to this well-regarded local park and campground.

Based on feedback from recent visitors, the environment of Columbus Park is primarily defined by its beautiful lake, which serves as the central hub for numerous recreational activities. The lake is described as a place where "people can swim and play in all day," indicating a safe and enjoyable environment for water-based fun for all ages. The opportunity to "take your boat out and fish or weight board" highlights the lake's suitability for both leisurely activities and more active water sports. For those without their own equipment, the availability of rentals such as "a canoe or row boat or a floating raft" makes it easy for everyone to enjoy the lake. This focus on lake recreation makes Columbus Park a unique "camping near me" option, especially for families and water enthusiasts.

While the campsites are noted to be "seriously close together," one reviewer also mentioned that it "was not a nightmare," suggesting that despite the proximity, the overall positive atmosphere and management mitigate any potential discomfort. This is an important point for local users who might prioritize spacious and secluded campsites; while Columbus Park might not offer extensive privacy between sites, the other benefits could outweigh this drawback for many, especially those focused on lake activities and a social camping environment.

The services at Columbus Park appear to be a strong point, with one reviewer highlighting that "the staff were beyond friendly and kind." Positive interactions with staff can significantly enhance the overall camping experience, making visitors feel welcome and well-cared for. Furthermore, the emphasis on cleanliness is evident, with the reviewer stating that "STaff spent entire days cleaning the grounds, so this place is the cleanest camp I've ever been to." This dedication to maintaining a clean environment is a significant advantage for any campground and should be particularly appealing to local users who value hygiene and a well-kept outdoor space.

In terms of features, the lake is undoubtedly the primary attraction of Columbus Park, offering swimming, boating, and fishing opportunities. The mention of a "little shop" suggests a convenient place to purchase snacks, basic camping supplies, or perhaps even fishing gear and rentals. The presence of a "small playground" adds to the family-friendly appeal, providing a dedicated space for younger children to play. Additionally, the "camping area is nice with a mini stream," indicating a potentially scenic and pleasant setting for overnight stays. The availability of day-use rentals for "a space...with reservations" to "have a huge private party" is a unique feature that caters to local gatherings and events, making Columbus Park a versatile option beyond just overnight camping.

However, local users with dogs should be aware of a specific restriction: "Dogs are not allowed in the biggest part of the park where the grass is in front of the lake." This means that while the park might be generally dog-friendly in camping areas or other designated zones, access to the main lakefront grassy area is prohibited for dogs. One reviewer noted the potential issue this could pose on a very hot day if pet owners want to be near the water while keeping their dogs cool and comfortable. Local users planning to bring their canine companions should inquire about specific dog-friendly areas within the park and plan accordingly.

Another positive aspect highlighted in the reviews is the early morning experience. One visitor who arrived around 7 am after a 6 am start mentioned that it was "nice" and "quite," with an "amazing" sunrise. This suggests that Columbus Park can offer a peaceful and scenic experience, especially during the early hours, which might appeal to those who enjoy the tranquility of nature before the daytime activities begin. The mention of a "mini stream" in the camping area also adds to the natural charm and could provide a soothing ambiance for campers.

While no specific promotional information was included in the provided message, local users contacting Columbus Park at the given phone numbers should inquire about any seasonal specials, day-use rates, or potential discounts for local residents. Given the availability of day-use rentals for private parties, there might be specific pricing structures or packages available for different types of events or group sizes. It would be beneficial for local users to ask about reservation procedures, especially for camping during peak seasons, and any potential fees associated with day use or rentals.

In summary, Columbus Park in Olympia, WA, offers a vibrant and family-friendly "camping near me" experience centered around a lake that provides opportunities for swimming, boating, and fishing. The staff are noted for their friendliness and the grounds for their cleanliness. Features include a small shop, a playground, and a camping area with a mini stream. While campsites are close together and dogs are restricted from the main lakefront area, the overall positive reviews and the range of recreational activities make it an attractive destination for local users. Contacting Columbus Park directly at (360) 786-9460 or +1 360-786-9460 will provide the most up-to-date information on reservations, rates, pet policies, and any current promotions, ensuring a well-planned and enjoyable local camping and recreation experience.
