Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground Introduce
For local residents in the Columbus, Indiana area and travelers seeking a convenient "camping near me" option, Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground, located at 8855 S 300 W, offers a welcoming environment with a range of amenities suitable for families and overnight stays. This older campground, while featuring gravel sites, provides a fun and engaging experience, particularly for those traveling with children, and boasts convenient access from Interstate 65.
The environment at Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground is geared towards family enjoyment. One reviewer specifically sought out a "smaller campground for the weekend with my wife and 3 young children" and found this location to be a perfect fit. A key feature is the "nice sized pool which was clean and the perfect temperature," providing a refreshing and enjoyable activity for all ages, especially during the warmer months. The presence of a well-maintained pool is a significant draw for families looking to cool off and have some fun together.
Another appealing environmental feature is the "little pond" which offers opportunities for fishing. One family reported catching "several blue gills" and mentioned that locals indicated the presence of "much larger fish," sparking even greater interest in fishing for their son. This provides a relaxed and engaging activity for both children and adults, allowing them to enjoy the outdoors and potentially catch their own dinner. The combination of a pool and a fishing pond offers diverse aquatic recreational options within the campground.
For added convenience, Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground has a "nice" camp store. While the reviewer noted that it did "close early," the presence of a store on-site is beneficial for campers who may need to purchase supplies, snacks, or forgotten essentials without having to leave the campground. This amenity adds to the self-sufficiency and convenience of staying at the kampground.
The campground also offers a streamlined check-in process for late arrivals. One reviewer who arrived after the front office was closed found their "reservation slip was hanging on the office door, which was super easy and convenient." This demonstrates a thoughtful approach to guest arrivals, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free start to their camping experience, even outside of regular office hours.
The layout of the campsites at Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground varies, with some spots being "close together" while others offer "a good amount of room." This suggests that potential campers might want to inquire about the specific characteristics of their chosen site when making a reservation, particularly if they have preferences regarding space and privacy. The availability of different site sizes can accommodate various camping setups and preferences.
One minor drawback mentioned by a reviewer was that "every road/path was compacted pea gravel." While they acknowledged that this wasn't a "big deal at all," it did prevent their young child from fully enjoying some scooter toys. This is a specific environmental characteristic to be aware of, particularly for families with very young children who might rely on smooth surfaces for certain types of play equipment. However, the reviewer still highly recommended the campground overall, indicating that this was a relatively minor inconvenience.
Another reviewer described Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground as "an older campground with gravel sites" that is "Convenient from I65." This highlights its accessibility for travelers on the interstate, making it a practical stop for those passing through the area. The reviewer also noted that while it might not be ideal for a long-term stay, it is "ok for overnight," reinforcing its suitability as a convenient stopover for travelers.
Considering the positive feedback regarding the pool, fishing pond, convenient check-in, and family-friendly atmosphere, combined with its easy access from I-65, Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground offers a compelling "camping near me" option for local families and overnight travelers alike. While the gravel roads/paths and the potentially close proximity of some campsites are factors to consider, the overall experience appears to be positive and enjoyable, especially for those seeking a smaller, amenity-rich campground for a weekend getaway with children.

Columbus Woods-N-Waters Kampground Reviews
I looked for a smaller campground for the weekend with my wife and 3 young children. I found this place and we loved it! They have a nice sized pool which was clean and the perfect temperature. Their little pond was fun for fishing. We caught several blue gills. The locals told us there were much larger fish, which made my son want to fish even more! The camp store was nice and they did close early. We did show up after the front office was closed, but our reservation slip was hanging on the office door, which was super easy and convenient. Some of the camp spots were close together while others had a good amount of room. We really enjoyed our time this weekend. The only thing we didn't like was every road/path was compacted pea gravel. Not terrible, but this didn't allow for my young child to use some of their scooter toys. It's not a big deal at all! I highly recommend this campground. We will be back!
Jul 07, 2024 · Ryan YoungThis is an older campground with gravel sites. Convenient from I65. Not a place I would stay long term but ok for overnight.
Mar 30, 2025 · D'nece ColemanNice campground, but I think most of the sites are occupied by those for the long term. Seasonal and permanent. Only a few sites FHU. The rest, no sewer, but there is a dumping station. Our info sheet had the internet PW, but it didn't say which listing was theirs. Pool is nice. Bathrooms older, but very clean. Shower heads need to fixed. Huge rain shower heads fitted to a small pipe making the water shoot out everywhere. I think this was once a KOA. We stopped there for our halfway point. I would stay there again.
Jul 14, 2024 · Gisela CarrNice campground I love that it's shaded with trees but some sites are tight. Shower house was clean but the still I went in was for shorter people I'm 6'3" and the shower head was below my neck. I didn't realize it cost money to fish in the lake I haven't tried yet. Still looking for the dumpster lol. But I'm liking it so far. The big thing is only a handful of sites have septic. And hard to get in for monthly.
