Cravens Bay Self-Service Campground & Boat Ramp Introduce
Looking for a "camping near me" experience that emphasizes natural beauty and lakeside access in the Eddyville, Kentucky region? Cravens Bay Self-Service Campground & Boat Ramp, located at Cravens Bay Self-Service Campground, Eddyville, KY 42038, USA, offers a more rustic and secluded camping option for those seeking a getaway focused on outdoor activities like fishing, walking, and swimming. Situated near Lake Barkley, this self-service campground provides a basic yet appealing setting for nature enthusiasts.
The environment at Cravens Bay Self-Service Campground & Boat Ramp is characterized by its proximity to Lake Barkley, offering great lake views and easy access to the water. The campground is described as a good place for fishing, suggesting that anglers will find it a convenient location to pursue their hobby. The opportunity for walking indicates the presence of trails or areas suitable for leisurely strolls, allowing visitors to explore the natural surroundings. Swimming is also mentioned as a possible activity, implying access to the lake for water-based recreation. The seclusion of the campground is noted as a positive aspect for those wanting to escape crowded areas and enjoy a more peaceful setting.
As a self-service campground, the services at Cravens Bay are more basic compared to full-service campgrounds. The sites are non-electric, which is a significant factor to consider for those relying on electricity for their camping setup. However, this lack of electric hookups is also suggested as a reason why the campground doesn't get as overcrowded as others. The campground provides vault toilets for restroom facilities. Each campsite is equipped with a fire ring for campfires and cooking, as well as picnic tables for outdoor dining and gathering. Notably, water hookups are not available at the individual sites. However, the campground does offer ice for sale at $4 for a large bag, which can be purchased from the camp host.
The primary feature of Cravens Bay Self-Service Campground & Boat Ramp is its direct access to Lake Barkley and the associated recreational activities. The presence of a boat ramp indicates that it's a convenient location for those wishing to bring their boats for fishing, watersports, or simply exploring the lake. The focus on fishing, walking, and swimming highlights the natural attractions of the area and the campground's suitability for these activities. The self-service nature of the campground contributes to a more independent and potentially quieter camping experience for those who prefer a more rustic approach.
One reviewer mentioned that the lack of electric sites means that visitors often hear generators running. This is a common trade-off in non-electric campgrounds, as some campers rely on generators for power. If you are sensitive to noise, this is an important factor to consider when planning your stay. However, for those who come prepared or prefer a more off-grid experience, this might not be a significant issue.
Another point to note from the reviews is the presence of a camp host who can be paid for the campsite and who also sells ice. One reviewer described the camp host as "grumpy," which is something to be aware of, although individual experiences can vary. Additionally, it's explicitly mentioned that dogs should not be let off the leash, indicating a rule that visitors with pets need to adhere to for the safety and consideration of others.
The pricing information provided indicates that the cost is $12 per night for up to two tents at a campsite. This makes it a relatively affordable option for camping near Lake Barkley. However, it's important to confirm if there are any additional fees or changes in pricing. Given the self-service nature, it's likely that payment is made to the camp host upon arrival or through a designated self-payment system.
Currently, no specific promotional information beyond the nightly rate is available from the provided reviews. Aug 19, 2023 · Scott EdwardsGreat campground if you want to be secluded from everyone else. Easy access to the lake with great views. All non electric sites is a drawback because you have to hear generators all the time, but I'm sure that's one of the reasons it doesn't get overcrowded like all the other campgrounds anymore.Just don't let your dog off the leash. Grumpy camp host.
May 28, 2023 · Jeff BarrSo many sites! Peaceful on the water. A lot of trash around our site, that was the only bummer. Toilet was clean.
Mar 13, 2022 · Meli KillianThis is our first time camping at Craven's Bay. We really love it. They have flush toilets and water spigot. No electric hookups so bring your generator. It is about 6 miles off the main LBL road, so be sure to head to the store before arrival. They do sale ice here. $2 for a 10lb bag and $4 for 20lbs. Great place to bring kids to have a day or weekend playing in the water. Highly recommend
May 12, 2022 · Crystal BerryWe hung up our hammocks at midnight, in the absolute darkness and woke up to an amazing view right on the water. Enjoyed a quick breakfast and took a paddle on the lake. We saw abundant wildlife—an osprey grab a fish out of the water, a bald eagle, a giant turtle, a white heron, and lots of jumping fish. What a great spot!!!
