Eglin Family Campground Introduce
For local users in the vicinity of Eglin Air Force Base (AFB), Florida, seeking "camping near me," Eglin Family Campground, located at 1711 Shambo Cove Road, Eglin AFB, FL 32542, USA, presents a camping option with both attractive features and important considerations. You can reach them at (850) 883-1243 or their mobile number, +1 850-883-1243, for inquiries and reservations. It's important to note that the reviews mention two distinct locations: Postyl Point and Camp Robbins MWR, both seemingly associated with Eglin Family Campground, and feedback varies significantly between them.
One of the primary advantages highlighted in the reviews for Eglin Family Campground is the availability of "great monthly rates." This could be particularly appealing to local users seeking an extended stay or a more budget-friendly camping option over a longer period. The affordability for longer durations might make this campground attractive for those relocating, working temporarily in the area, or simply wishing to enjoy an extended outdoor retreat without incurring high nightly costs.
The environment at Eglin Family Campground, specifically at Postyl Point, is described as having "beautiful views." This suggests that campsites at this location may offer scenic vistas of the surrounding area, potentially including water views or attractive natural landscapes. The presence of "lots of trails to walk at both FamCamp sites" (presumably referring to Postyl Point and another area, possibly Camp Robbins MWR, although the latter receives negative reviews) indicates that the campground provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation, such as hiking and nature walks. These trails would allow local users to explore the natural beauty of the Eglin AFB region and engage in physical activity during their stay.
Regarding services, the staff at Eglin Family Campground are generally described as "courteous." While this is a positive aspect of customer service, one reviewer also noted that the staff is "very stringent on the rules." This implies that while interactions might be polite, campers should be prepared to adhere strictly to the campground's regulations. Local users considering a stay here should ensure they are comfortable with and willing to abide by a potentially extensive set of rules to avoid any issues during their visit.
A significant concern raised in the reviews pertains to the bad weather evacuation procedures, specifically at Postyl Point. According to one reviewer, there is a "possibility of a bad weather evacuation." The troubling aspect of this is that there apparently is "no plan in place for where you can go until it reopens." This lack of a clear evacuation plan could be a major drawback for campers, especially those with large RVs, as they would be left to "fend for yourself" and navigate severe weather conditions without guidance or designated shelter from the campground management. Local users planning to stay at Postyl Point should seriously consider this potential risk and have their own contingency plans in case of a required evacuation due to adverse weather.
The feedback regarding Camp Robbins MWR, seemingly associated with Eglin Family Campground, is overwhelmingly negative and raises serious concerns. One reviewer stated, "In my opinion, Camp Robbins MWR, I have never seen a MWR steal your money. Staff is subpar and dishonest at best." This is a severe accusation, suggesting potential financial mismanagement and untrustworthy staff behavior at this particular location. The reviewer further claimed that a refund was only issued after pursuing felony theft charges, highlighting a deeply problematic experience. Local users considering any part of Eglin Family Campground should be aware of this strongly negative feedback regarding Camp Robbins MWR and exercise extreme caution if considering a stay there.
Given the stark contrast in experiences between Postyl Point (beautiful views, trails, but potential evacuation issues) and Camp Robbins MWR (allegations of dishonesty and subpar staff), it is crucial for local users to clarify which specific area of Eglin Family Campground they are considering when making a reservation. The overall "Eglin Family Campground" umbrella seems to encompass locations with vastly different service quality and potential risks.
Promotional information beyond the mention of "great monthly rates" is absent in the provided reviews. Local users interested in specific daily or weekly rates, seasonal discounts, or any other special offers should contact Eglin Family Campground directly using the provided phone numbers. Inquiring about the differences between Postyl Point and Camp Robbins MWR, as well as the specific rules and bad weather evacuation procedures for each location, is highly recommended.
In conclusion, for local users exploring "camping near me" near Eglin AFB, Florida, Eglin Family Campground offers the potential for beautiful views and access to nature trails, particularly at Postyl Point, along with attractive monthly rates. However, significant drawbacks include potentially stringent rules and, more concerningly, a lack of a clear plan for bad weather evacuations at Postyl Point, leaving campers to their own devices during severe conditions. Furthermore, the extremely negative review of Camp Robbins MWR, alleging dishonest staff and financial impropriety, should give potential visitors serious pause. Local users should proceed with caution, thoroughly research the specific area within Eglin Family Campground they are considering, and directly inquire about policies, procedures, and the starkly different reputations associated with Postyl Point and Camp Robbins MWR before making a reservation. Understanding these nuances is crucial for a safe and satisfactory camping experience.

Eglin Family Campground Reviews
Great monthly rates! Beautiful views at Postyl Point and lots of trails to walk at both FamCamp sites. Staff was generally courteous but very stringent on the rules. One big negative is if you stay at Postyl Point, there is the possibility of a bad weather evacuation. The troubling part is that there's no plan in place for where you can go until it reopens. Basically fend for yourself and have fun with your big rig out there in the storm...
Feb 20, 2024 · Dallas WilliamsIn my opinion, Camp Robbins MWR, I have never seen a MWR steal your money. Staff is subpar and dishonest at best. Once I pursued Felony theft charges, all of a sudden they sent me a refund. Be very careful around these people.
Apr 29, 2025 · Spencer CorvoThought this was a great place until we got two warnings that were absolutely ridiculous! One was for having too many vehicles… when other people had the exact same amount and never moved. the other was for parking in the grass. Which i would understand if the grass was beautiful, but it was not most places were just filled w sand/rocks instead of grass. we had half of our tire in the grass and we’re told it was against the rules, when there was other people parked like this. I have posted pictures below! I recommend the Fort Bennington site that is absolutely beautiful and it’s just right across from the AFB.
Apr 17, 2023 · Marisela BrownCampground is very nice, close to beach, commissary, but had to leave early to death in family. Have had to call many times to get credit on card, each time I'm told they will call back and they haven't yet, been 3 weeks. Not happy at all.
Feb 03, 2025 · Catherine HollowayThe manager is rude. The other staff are friendly. The manager kept harassing us the whole time we were there. She wouldn't let us stay in our tent an extra 6 days. She made us leave but it's funny how we were there 30 days and the guy next to us was there before we got there and he is still staying. The manager said we couldn't stay more than 30 days but she is letting other ones in tents stay past the 30 days. The bathrooms were clean. The laundry room was clean. Out of the 4 dryers only 1 works. I will never stay here again because of how the manager treated us. She is very rude and unprofessional.
