Ellery Creek Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the stunning Shasta Lake region of Northern California? Consider Ellery Creek Campground, situated at Gilman Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA. You can reach them by phone at (530) 275-8113 or +1 530-275-8113 for reservations and inquiries. Based on recent online reviews, Ellery Creek Campground offers a blend of natural beauty and convenient amenities for a pleasant camping experience.
When exploring "camping near me," the tranquility and natural environment of a campground often play a significant role in the decision. Ellery Creek Campground appears to offer a serene atmosphere. One reviewer specifically mentioned, "The place is so quiet," which can be a major draw for those seeking a peaceful retreat in nature. The same reviewer also noted the absence of rangers or a camp host who might frequently patrol the area, which could appeal to campers who value a more secluded and undisturbed experience.
The campground's location near Shasta Lake provides opportunities for water-related activities. One reviewer mentioned that their campsite had "views of the water," suggesting that some sites offer scenic vistas of the lake. Another reviewer recounted a pleasant camping experience where they enjoyed the proximity to the water, even noting that the water level was low during their visit, making the hike up and down to the water a bit of a "pain" but ultimately still enjoyable. This indicates that access to the lake is a key feature of Ellery Creek Campground, allowing for activities such as swimming, boating, or simply enjoying the waterfront scenery.
The natural beauty of the area surrounding the campground is also highlighted. One reviewer described their site as "lovely with beautiful large trees," which provide shade and enhance the overall camping environment. The experience of witnessing a "gorgeous sunset" further underscores the scenic appeal of Ellery Creek Campground as a potential choice when searching for "camping near me."
For those who prefer campsites with amenities, Ellery Creek Campground offers options with both water and electricity hookups. One reviewer who was returning to tent camping after two decades specifically chose a site with these conveniences, noting that both were "conveniently located." Having access to water and electricity can significantly enhance the comfort and practicality of a camping trip, especially for those using appliances or requiring power for medical devices.
The sense of community and consideration among campers is also a positive aspect mentioned in the reviews. One reviewer noted that their neighbors were "quiet and friendly," contributing to a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere within the campground. This can greatly enhance the overall camping experience, especially in shared outdoor spaces.
The facilities at Ellery Creek Campground receive positive feedback as well. The restrooms and showers are described as "great!" This is another essential aspect for many campers, and positive feedback suggests that the campground maintains these facilities to a satisfactory standard.
The review also touches upon the climate, mentioning that it "got pretty cold overnight." However, for campers with the right gear, this is manageable, especially since the availability of electricity allows for the use of electric heaters in tents or RVs, as one reviewer noted, making their tent "cozy." This highlights the benefit of having electric hookups, particularly during colder seasons or evenings.
Ellery Creek Campground is also described as "dog-friendly." The reviewer specifically mentioned that "everyone seemed attentive to their dogs and kept them under close control," indicating a responsible pet-owning community within the campground. For those who enjoy camping with their canine companions, this is a significant advantage when considering "camping near me."
However, one important point of caution mentioned in a review is the presence of snakes near the water. One camper reported that their son spotted a snake right by the water and advised others to "be careful with snakes." This is a natural hazard in many outdoor environments, and campers should be aware of this possibility and take necessary precautions, especially when near the lake.
In summary, Ellery Creek Campground near Shasta Lake in Lakehead, CA, offers a quiet and scenic camping experience with beautiful views of the water and large trees. It provides amenities such as water and electricity at some sites, and the restrooms and showers are well-regarded. The campground is dog-friendly, and the campers generally seem considerate of each other. However, potential visitors should be aware of the possibility of snakes near the water and the potential for a hike down to the lake, especially when water levels are low. For those seeking a peaceful and well-equipped "camping near me" option on Shasta Lake, Ellery Creek Campground appears to be a very pleasant choice.

Ellery Creek Campground Reviews
We really love coming here. The place is so quiet. No rangers or camp host to bother us. The water is really low. It was a pain to hike up and down but we really enjoyed it there. Be careful with snakes. My son spotted one right by the water.
Sep 15, 2022 · Vina PoitevintVery pleasant camping experience. We haven't tent-camped in over 20 years, but thought it would be fun to try again. The site was lovely with beautiful large trees and views of the water. Gorgeous sunset! We chose water and electricity. Both were conveniently located. The neighbors were quiet and friendly. The restrooms/showers were great! It got pretty cold overnight, but we plugged in a little electric heater and were cozy in our tent. Dog-friendly. Everyone seemed attentive to their dogs and kept them under close control.
May 21, 2023 · Bonnie SmithBeautiful and almost empty campground! This view in the pictures is from the campsite - #17. No running water in restrooms - vault style. Mosquitoes, insects, spiders were all a real problem especially on the campsites that weren’t on the main view/road next to the river. No connectivity - which is the best part. Getting to the water is a bit of a hike as it has dried out quite a bit. A lot of people seemed to have made bookings but never showed up. Can get very hot but there’s enough shade from the trees.
May 17, 2021 · Mahak RawalMade reservations. Site was gross. Cigarettes butts everywhere (and not just a few), used toilet paper next to the picnic table in our site. Poison oak and thorn bushes up to and on the tent pad. No reasonable access to the lake unless the lake is full. Super steep 100+ yards down to the water and the water was a swampland. POTENTIAL IS THERE but we were not impressed this time. Not recommend if you have kids or pets due to the amount of poison oak and thorn bushes.
Aug 22, 2024 · Kevin SaundersThis campground was closed for the winter, however I parked Moto and walked down to the area and very glad I did! The views of the lake and Rocky mountains is stunning. I would definitely camp here!
