Gregory’s Beach Dispersed CampingShasta/Trinity National ForestApril 2025Currently raining and there is red mud everywhere. We parked on the rocks at the shoreline and tried to enjoy the rainy day. SO much trash! Ewwww! Spent time between downpours picking up as much trash as we could. Too bad, this could be a much better beach to play on. Large beach with space available pretty much everywhere. Also saw many sites up under the trees. I saw no services onsite. There is a ‘Group Area’ that is gated and locked. This review would be remiss without mentioning that an I-5 bridge runs over the lake. There is quite a bit of traffic noise. Overall, the trash was too much for me. Such a lack of respect, that made me feel very sad. I will not be returning.#DispersedCamping#FreeCamping#NationalForest#RVlife#NoReservations#CellServiceAvailble#DogsAllowed#PackYourTrash#LeaveNoTrace#FireOkWithPermit#PenelopeOnTheGo#GratefulTraveler - Christine

Gregory Beach Dispersed Area Introduce

Are you searching for "camping near me" and interested in a more rustic, self-sufficient experience? Gregory Beach Dispersed Area, located on Gregory Creek Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA, within the Shasta/Trinity National Forest, offers dispersed camping opportunities. You can contact them at (530) 275-8113 or +1 530-275-8113.

Recent reviews from campers provide a mixed but informative picture of what to expect at Gregory Beach Dispersed Area. One camper who visited in April 2025 described the conditions during a rainy period, noting "red mud everywhere." They parked on the rocks at the shoreline and observed a "large beach with space available pretty much everywhere," as well as "many sites up under the trees." However, a significant issue highlighted was the amount of trash present, described as "SO much trash! Ewwww!" This visitor spent time picking up trash but ultimately stated they would not return due to the lack of respect shown to the area.

This same reviewer noted the absence of on-site services and mentioned a gated and locked "Group Area." Additionally, they pointed out that an I-5 bridge runs over the lake, resulting in "quite a bit of traffic noise." Despite these drawbacks, the reviewer acknowledged the potential of the location, stating, "Too bad, this could be a much better beach to play on."

Another review mentioned the impact of the drought on locals and industry. This camper, using a 4x4 vehicle, was able to drive down to the water and initially found it "very peaceful." However, their experience was marred by a confrontation with a local who felt the camper had taken their spot.

Considering the category "camping near me," Gregory Beach Dispersed Area offers a different style of camping compared to developed campgrounds. "Dispersed camping" typically means camping outside of designated campgrounds, often without amenities like restrooms, picnic tables, or trash receptacles. This aligns with the first reviewer's observation of "no services onsite." It also often implies a greater sense of solitude and immersion in nature, although the proximity to the I-5 bridge seems to detract from this aspect due to noise.

The environment of Gregory Beach Dispersed Area appears to be centered around a lake with a "large beach." The presence of trees suggests some shaded camping spots are available. However, the recent rainy conditions resulted in "red mud," which could be a factor depending on the time of year. The mention of drought in one review indicates that water levels and the surrounding landscape might vary depending on the season and overall weather patterns.

In terms of services, based on the reviews, it's clear that there are minimal to no developed services at Gregory Beach Dispersed Area. This is typical for dispersed camping. Campers are expected to be self-sufficient, bringing their own water, food, shelter, and waste disposal methods. The hashtag "#PackYourTrash" and "#LeaveNoTrace" in one review underscores this expectation. The mention of "FireOkWithPermit" suggests that campfires might be allowed with the appropriate permits, which would need to be obtained separately, likely from the Shasta/Trinity National Forest authorities.

Features of Gregory Beach Dispersed Area include its lakefront location with a large beach, the availability of camping spots both on the shoreline (potentially rocky) and under trees, and its accessibility (at least down to the water with a 4x4 vehicle, according to one review). The fact that it's in the Shasta/Trinity National Forest suggests potential access to hiking trails and other natural attractions in the broader area. The hashtags also indicate that cell service is available, dogs are allowed, and no reservations are needed, which can be appealing for spontaneous trips.

However, significant drawbacks mentioned in the reviews temper the promotional aspects. The pervasive trash issue is a major concern raised by one camper. The traffic noise from the I-5 bridge is another negative aspect to consider for those seeking a peaceful natural retreat. The encounter with a local feeling their "spot" was taken also suggests potential issues with unwritten rules or territoriality, although this might be an isolated incident.

For promotional information, Gregory Beach Dispersed Area might appeal to those looking for "free camping" (#FreeCamping) in a National Forest (#NationalForest) setting with lake access. The large beach and the ability to camp in various spots offer flexibility. The allowance of dogs (#DogsAllowed) and the availability of cell service (#CellServiceAvailble) are also potential draws. However, any promotional material would need to honestly address the trash situation and the noise from the nearby interstate.

Given the conflicting aspects highlighted in the reviews, potential visitors should be aware of both the opportunities and the challenges of camping at Gregory Beach Dispersed Area. If you are prepared for a no-frills, self-supported camping experience and are willing to potentially deal with trash left by others and noise from the interstate, the spacious beach and lake access might be appealing. However, if you prioritize cleanliness and quiet, this location might not be the best fit based on the recent feedback.

Before planning a trip to Gregory Beach Dispersed Area, it would be wise to contact the Shasta/Trinity National Forest office using the provided phone number to inquire about the current conditions, any specific regulations for dispersed camping in the area, and whether there have been any efforts to address the trash issue. This will help you make an informed decision about whether this "camping near me" option aligns with your expectations and preferences.
