Lakehead Campground & RV Park Introduce
If you are traveling through Northern California near Lakehead and searching for "camping near me" or an "RV park near me" for a short stop, Lakehead Campground & RV Park, located at 20999 Antlers Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA, presents a basic option with some reported conveniences. However, the limited reviews offer a somewhat contrasting perspective, highlighting its suitability for brief stays while also raising concerns about certain aspects of the environment and facilities. It is important to consider both the positive and negative feedback when evaluating this campground for your needs.
One reviewer found Lakehead Campground & RV Park to be "perfect for an overnight stay." This suggests that the campground serves as a functional and adequate option for travelers needing a quick stopover. In their specific situation, they had to abandon a reserved campsite at a higher altitude due to colder temperatures and found Lakehead Campground & RV Park to be a suitable alternative. This highlights its potential as a convenient and accessible option for those seeking immediate accommodation while on the road.
The same reviewer specifically commended the "super nice guy" who was "very accommodating on Thanksgiving night." This positive interaction with the staff suggests that the management can be friendly and helpful, particularly in accommodating guests during potentially challenging circumstances or late arrivals. This personal touch can be a significant factor in the overall experience, especially for weary travelers.
For RV travelers, this reviewer also noted that their "RV spot had power, water, and sewer," describing it as a "perfect 'port in a storm.'" The availability of these essential hookups is a significant advantage for RVs, providing the necessary utilities for a comfortable overnight stay. This feature makes Lakehead Campground & RV Park a practical choice for RVers passing through the area and needing to replenish supplies and connect to services.
However, the second review offers a more critical perspective, describing the campground as "Nothing Special" and only "basically good for a one night stay." This aligns with the first review's assessment of its suitability for short-term stops but suggests a lack of exceptional qualities or amenities that would make it a destination for a longer stay.
This reviewer also pointed out that the "Checkin process is unclear." A confusing or inefficient check-in can be a source of frustration for arriving guests, especially after a long journey. Clarity and ease in the check-in process are important for a smooth and positive start to any camping or RV park stay.
A more significant concern raised in the second review is that the "Bathroom was filled with cigarette smoke." This suggests a potential issue with enforcing no-smoking policies in communal areas or a lack of ventilation in the restroom facilities. The presence of cigarette smoke in a shared bathroom can be unpleasant and unhealthy for many individuals, impacting the overall comfort and hygiene of the facilities.
Finally, the second reviewer mentioned that "there are some sketchy regulars." This is a vague but potentially concerning statement, as it could imply the presence of individuals who make other guests feel uneasy or unsafe. While the term "sketchy" is subjective, it raises a flag about the overall atmosphere and the type of community present at the campground. Safety and a sense of security are paramount for a positive camping or RV park experience.
Considering these two reviews, Lakehead Campground & RV Park appears to be a basic facility primarily suited for short, overnight stays, particularly for RVers needing hookups. The management seems to be accommodating, as highlighted by the positive interaction on Thanksgiving night. However, potential guests should be aware of the reported issues with an unclear check-in process, cigarette smoke in the bathroom, and the presence of "sketchy regulars," which could detract from the overall experience.
Without further information, it is difficult to assess the environment beyond its apparent functionality as a stopover. Its location in Lakehead, California, suggests proximity to Lake Shasta and the surrounding natural beauty of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This could be an appealing aspect for those wishing to explore the area briefly. However, the reviews do not specifically comment on the scenic qualities of the campground itself, focusing more on its practicality for short stays and the issues encountered.
Similarly, details regarding specific services and features are limited to the mention of power, water, and sewer hookups for RVs. We do not have information about the number or type of campsites available (e.g., tent sites, pull-through RV sites), the presence of other amenities such as restrooms, showers (beyond the smoky bathroom mentioned), laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, or recreational areas. The lack of this information makes it challenging to compare Lakehead Campground & RV Park to other options in the "camping near me" and "RV parks near me" categories.
There is no promotional information provided in the reviews. Therefore, we cannot comment on any special offers, discounts, or unique selling points being advertised by Lakehead Campground & RV Park. Potential guests would need to contact the campground directly at (530) 238-8450 or +1 530-238-8450 for any such information.
In conclusion, Lakehead Campground & RV Park appears to be a no-frills option that can serve as a convenient overnight stop for travelers, especially RVers needing hookups. The friendly and accommodating management is a potential positive. However, the reported issues with an unclear check-in, cigarette smoke in the bathroom, and the presence of "sketchy regulars" are significant drawbacks that potential guests should carefully consider. If you are simply looking for a basic place to park your RV with utilities for the night, it might suffice. However, if you are seeking a more comfortable, clean, and secure environment for a longer stay, exploring other options in the "camping near me" and "RV parks near me" categories in the Lakehead area might be advisable. Further inquiries directly with the campground are recommended to get the most up-to-date information and to address any concerns based on the available reviews.

Lakehead Campground & RV Park Reviews
Perfect for an overnight stay. We abandoned our reserved campsite in higher altitude and much colder temperatures for Lakehead Campground & RV Park. Super nice guy, very accommodating on Thanksgiving night. Our RV spot had power, water, and sewer. Perfect “port in a storm.”

Apr 15, 2025 · John ClokeThis was an incredible experience. We were on our way to Bend, Oregon from central CA and weren’t sure where we were going to stop for the night. I called the phone number for this campground which looked perfect and a really nice gentleman answered explaining that we could stay the night and pay our camping fee. This was such a beautiful place! Quiet and peaceful as well! It was early in the season but we were so grateful to be able to experience this.We did tent camping and each lot is surrounded by trees and the lots are clean! At night saw the most stars I’ve ever had the chance of seeing in the sky.Thank you again to the kind person on the phone for letting us stay on such short notice. We appreciate you!
May 17, 2024 · roslyn myrThis place is PERFECT. The owner is a fantastic person to deal with. His one and only maintenance guy is one of the friendliest people I've met and does a great job maintaining the park. Bathrooms were in good shape and clean. Overall I'd say 6 stars out of 5. Definitely will be back.
May 05, 2024 · Lewis MurroHave camped here but we mostly come just for the pool. By noon, there is enough shade over the pool for ~4 people to stay out of the sun. It just gets more shady as the day goes on, which is perfect for me tender and pale Scottish skins. Bugs fall into the pool a lot from the shade trees, but that's easy to deal with. Pool is SUPER cold which is refreshing on a triple digit day. Please call to verify the day use fee for yourself but I don't think we have ever paid more than $20-30 total.
