For local users in California searching for "camping near me," Antlers Campground, situated at Antlers Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, offers a promising retreat into nature near the scenic Lake Shasta. With a contact phone number of (530) 275-8113 or mobile at +1 530-275-8113, this campground has garnered positive feedback from visitors, highlighting its beauty, helpful staff, and variety of camping environments.
According to recent customer reviews, Antlers Campground is an "amazing place to stay," characterized by its well-maintained grounds and the friendliness of its staff. One reviewer specifically commended the "super nice" staff, suggesting a welcoming and helpful atmosphere for campers. The campground boasts a selection of campsites catering to different preferences, with options ranging from those offering picturesque lake views to others nestled within the cool shade of the forest. This variety allows local users to choose a setting that best suits their camping style and desired ambiance.
The natural environment surrounding Antlers Campground appears to be a significant draw. One visitor recounted seeing deer eating breakfast, indicating the presence of local wildlife and the potential for nature observation. The overall impression from the reviews is that the area is "absolutely beautiful," offering a serene and visually appealing backdrop for a camping getaway. The fact that "the lake is full" was also noted, suggesting that Lake Shasta, a major attraction in the area, is currently in good condition for potential water-related activities, although direct access from the campground itself is somewhat limited.
In terms of amenities, each campsite at Antlers Campground is equipped with a table and a fire ring, providing the essentials for outdoor cooking and gathering around a campfire. While specific details about other facilities like restrooms or water sources are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews, the general positive tone suggests that basic necessities are likely available and well-maintained, contributing to the overall positive camping experience.
One reviewer highlighted the quiet atmosphere of the campground, particularly during a midweek visit when it was less busy. This tranquility could be a significant advantage for local users seeking a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The mention of a helpful camp host named Brandon, who assisted a visitor with issues beyond camping, further underscores the positive and supportive staff at Antlers Campground.
Adding a touch of local charm, one review mentioned a "scavenger hunt," although details were not provided. This suggests that the campground might offer unique activities or ways to engage with the surrounding environment, potentially adding an element of fun and exploration to the camping experience for families and individuals alike.
It's important to note a few minor drawbacks mentioned by the reviewers. One pointed out that direct lake access from the campground is somewhat challenging. While there is a spot near campsite 21 where one can hike down to the lake, it is described as "a bit steep," which might not be suitable for all campers, especially those with mobility issues or young children. This suggests that while the lake is nearby and potentially visible from some campsites, accessing it directly for swimming or other water activities might require a short drive or a more adventurous hike.
Another reviewer mentioned the occasional passing of a train, noting that it comes through 2-3 times per night. While they didn't find it to be a major disturbance ("not bad"), light sleepers might want to consider this potential noise factor when choosing a campsite. The reviewer also advised keeping an eye out for black widow spiders, which are common in many parts of California, indicating a need for general caution and awareness of local wildlife.
Finally, one reviewer mentioned the presence of "a couple of tweekers around the area," acknowledging that such issues can occur in various locations and are not necessarily specific to the campground itself. This is a general awareness point rather than a direct reflection on the campground's management or safety, as the reviewer still gave an overall positive rating.
Considering the positive aspects highlighted in the reviews, such as the beautiful environment, helpful staff, well-maintained grounds, and variety of campsite options (lake view or shady forest), Antlers Campground appears to be a highly recommended option for local users searching for "camping near me" near Lake Shasta. The limited direct lake access and occasional train noise are minor drawbacks to consider, but they do not seem to detract significantly from the overall positive experiences of past visitors. The presence of wildlife like deer adds to the natural charm of the location, making it an appealing destination for those seeking a tranquil and scenic camping getaway in Northern California. For those looking to explore the beauty of Lake Shasta and enjoy a well-serviced campground, Antlers Campground, with its friendly staff and diverse camping environments, stands out as a strong contender.

Antlers Campground Reviews
Amazing place to stay and staff is super nice! There's a lot of camp grounds to choose from, whether it's lake view or shady forest. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because there's not really lake access from the camp ground. You can hike down in a spot near camping spot 21, but it's a bit steep. Otherwise, we saw deer eating breakfast, well maintained, and overall an absolutely beautiful place to camp!
Jun 28, 2023 · Jessica FrySo went up here to get away for a few days, very quiet. So we went up during the week so not so busy. Brandon the camp host was very helpful (had issues outside of camping) in pointing me in the right direction. Plus went out on what you can say...a scavenger hunt. Train comes through 2-3 per night, not bad.You have a table a fire ring at every site. Lake is full don't know when last time it was but it was great to see. If you happen to meet River he's a good guy. Only reason I didn't give 5 ⭐ was the couple of tweekers around the area. But those people are everywhere. Also keep an eye out for as you see Black widow spiders.
Jun 03, 2023 · Dan GrovesI love that the restrooms are clean and smell good! Also the camp hosts are incredible and helpful! My camp area was racked nicely and not a single spec of trash was there. I loved that the camp hosts Mike and Jeni checked on me to make sure if we needed anything or any help. Ne if my best experiences! Thank you for making our stay great!
Jun 15, 2024 · Shawnee WellsWas not what we except but was not a bad spot over all. Just to close to the hwy. The other ppl that stayed at this camp site were very responsible. No one was loud or got out of control. This camp site would always be a good second option when other places are full. The camp host are very nice, friendly & helpful.
Jul 11, 2023 · Autumn WolfbloodThis was a nice campground - big trees, decent privacy between sites even when full, beautiful location. Downsides include no direct lake access, you're close enough to I-5 to always hear some background car noise, there's a train that basically runs through the campground twice a day, and boat noise from the lake carries up into the campground.
