Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday Introduce
For local residents exploring 'camping near me' options in the Emporia, Virginia area, the Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday located at 2940 Sussex Dr presents a recognizable brand within the camping community. KOA campgrounds are known for offering a range of amenities and services, catering to various camping preferences, from tent sites to RV hookups and cabin rentals. However, recent customer feedback provides a mixed perspective on the Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday, highlighting both potential drawbacks and some positive aspects that local users should consider.
One of the primary concerns raised by recent visitors is the significant noise from nearby train traffic. Multiple reviews explicitly mention a 'pretty loud train' and a 'loud train right next to us.' One camper even reported being 'forced to leave at 5 am to be able to sleep in a parking lot because of how loud the trains are.' This suggests that the proximity of the campground to active railway lines may result in considerable noise disturbance, potentially impacting the quality of sleep and overall peacefulness of the camping experience. For local users who are sensitive to noise, this is a critical factor to consider when evaluating this 'camping near me' option.
Another issue raised by a reviewer concerns the usability of the campsite itself. They reported being 'not able to enjoy the fire pit, or even seating area.' The reason for this lack of usability is not specified, but it implies a potential issue with the campsite setup or maintenance that detracted from their camping experience. For those who value having a functional outdoor space for campfires and relaxation, this feedback suggests a potential inconsistency in site quality at the Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday.
Cleanliness of the facilities is another area of concern highlighted in the reviews. One camper stated that 'the bathrooms were dirty,' which is a significant factor for overall comfort and hygiene during a camping trip. While another reviewer mentioned that 'the washrooms were nice,' this conflicting feedback suggests a potential inconsistency in the cleanliness standards of the campground's facilities. Local users who prioritize clean and well-maintained restrooms should consider this mixed feedback and perhaps inquire about the current state of the facilities before booking.
Interestingly, one reviewer mentioned being told that 'there was just the one spot left' upon arrival, only to find that 'there were so many available.' This discrepancy raises questions about the accuracy of the information provided during the booking process and could be indicative of potential communication issues or inventory management. Local users might want to confirm site availability directly to avoid any misunderstandings upon arrival.
Despite the negative feedback regarding noise and cleanliness, one reviewer did mention that 'the washrooms were nice,' offering a contrasting positive note. This suggests that while there may be inconsistencies, some aspects of the campground's facilities are well-maintained. However, the overall impression from the provided reviews leans towards a less than ideal experience for some visitors.
Price is also mentioned as a potential drawback. One camper who stayed at a 'primitive spot' found the 'price was a bit steep' for the level of amenities offered, even if it 'worked in a pinch.' This suggests that the value proposition of the Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday, particularly for more basic camping options, might be perceived as less favorable compared to other 'camping near me' alternatives. Local users on a budget may want to compare pricing with other campgrounds in the vicinity.
Another minor inconvenience reported was 'light from neighboring cabin on all night,' which contributed to a 'less than restful sleep' for one camper. This suggests potential issues with site layout or lighting that could impact the sleep quality of some visitors. While perhaps less significant than the train noise, it is still a factor that could affect the overall camping experience.
Given the limited scope of the provided reviews, it is challenging to offer a comprehensive overview of the environment, services, and features of the Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday. KOA campgrounds generally offer a range of amenities such as RV hookups (water, electricity, sewer), tent sites, cabin rentals, restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, Wi-Fi access, and sometimes recreational facilities like swimming pools or playgrounds. However, the recent feedback suggests that the actual experience at this particular location may be compromised by noise issues and potential inconsistencies in cleanliness and site quality.
To obtain a more balanced perspective and up-to-date information, local users are strongly encouraged to contact the Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday directly at (888) 562-0531 or +1 888-562-0531. Inquiring about specific site availability, noise levels from train traffic, the current condition of restrooms and other facilities, and pricing for different types of camping will be crucial in making an informed decision. Additionally, checking recent reviews on other platforms might provide a broader range of opinions and experiences.
In conclusion, while the Emporia / I-95 KOA Holiday is a recognizable option for 'camping near me' in the Emporia, VA area, recent customer feedback indicates potential drawbacks related to train noise, campsite usability, and cleanliness. While some positive aspects like 'nice washrooms' were mentioned, the overall tone of the reviews suggests caution. Local users should weigh these factors carefully and conduct further research, including direct contact with the campground, before making a booking to ensure it aligns with their expectations for a restful and enjoyable camping experience.

Pretty loud trainWe were not able to enjoy the fire pit, or even seating area. The bathrooms were dirty. We actually had to leave the campground to spend time away and then forced to leave at 5 am to be able to sleep in a parking lot because of how loud the trains are .
Apr 13, 2025 · Gabe RielWe were told there was just the one spot left and there were so many available. Light from neighboring cabin on all night, loud train right next to us and highly made it for a less than restful sleep but the washrooms were nice. Price was a bit steep for a primitive spot but worked in a pinch on the way down to florida.
Jan 03, 2025 · JademelanieStopped to break up our travels, perfect pull-through campsite. Pleasant staff. Clean and relaxing camp.
Apr 29, 2025 · Duane BrantLovely quiet, clean, smallish RV park. Perfect for 2 tired travelers to recuperate for 2 nights, which we did. I found the distant train whistle soothing. Staff was welcoming and accommodating. The ever fresh available coffee was welcome. I would easily return.Dr. Dorree
Dec 31, 2024 · Dorree LynnWe stopped here just to use the dump station for our RV. The ladies in the office were very nice and helpful. The location off the highway was extremely convenient. Also, getting to the dump station within the RV Park was equally convenient. In and out quickly. We visited our Son in VA. We were able to park and stay in our camper on his 5 acres, which was very convenient since his house is too small for us to stay in. We have used a dump station at an RV park close to his house in the past. However, they no longer offer that service. The closest place we could find was the I-95 KOA in Emporia. This place is AMAZING!! The ladies in the office were extremely nice, helpful, and friendly. Their maintenance man even helped answer some travel questions we had. He was so friendly and helpful as well. All of this helpfulness for the $20 plus tax they charged us for using one of their sites to dump. It's rare to experience customer service like that these days. They went above and beyond to help us.
