Situated at 9100 Rock Creek Rd, Placerville, CA 95667, USA, this campground offers a unique lakeside camping experience with a blend of natural beauty and convenient amenities. You can connect with Finnon Lake Campground by phone at (530) 409-5515 or via mobile at +1 530-409-5515.
Finnon Lake Campground is truly defined by its intimate relationship with Finnon Lake. Reviewers consistently highlight that "All the camp spots are decent size and surrounded by the lake." This immediate proximity to the water creates a tranquil and scenic environment, offering campers continuous views and easy access to the lake. The ability to "walk around the lake" quickly is also a notable feature, indicating a manageable and pleasant natural setting for casual strolls and enjoying the fresh air.
One particularly positive environmental aspect mentioned is the surprisingly "low on pests" count, even when camping near water where bugs can typically be "terrible." This suggests that the campground's natural setting, despite being lakeside, doesn't come with the common nuisance of excessive insects, enhancing the overall comfort for campers. The presence of a "wood area trails too" (from a similar, nearby campground description, though the specific review for Finnon Lake mentions walking around the lake) suggests that the natural landscape offers varied terrain for exploration, likely encompassing a mix of open areas around the lake and possibly some wooded sections, characteristic of the Placerville region.
Placerville itself is steeped in California's Gold Rush history, situated in the heart of El Dorado County. The location offers a pleasant climate, typically featuring warm, dry summers and mild, wet winters, which allows for a good camping season. The natural beauty of the Sierra Nevada foothills, with its rolling hills and diverse flora, surrounds the lake, providing a peaceful backdrop for outdoor activities. The campground's relative seclusion, while still being accessible, contributes to its "serene" atmosphere.
Finnon Lake Campground, though described as a "decent smaller campground," offers a range of services and features that contribute to a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience. These include:
- Lakeside Campsites: The defining feature is the direct access and proximity to Finnon Lake for all campsites. This allows campers to enjoy lake views, the sounds of nature, and immediate access to water activities right from their site. The "decent size" of the camp spots ensures adequate space for various camping setups.
- Restroom Facilities: "Bathrooms available" is a basic yet crucial amenity, providing essential hygiene for campers. While the level of detail regarding these facilities (e.g., flush toilets, showers) is not specified in the provided reviews, their presence is a convenience.
- Disc Golf Course: The mention of "Disc Golf" is a unique recreational feature that sets Finnon Lake Campground apart. This provides an engaging activity for campers of all ages and skill levels, adding an active and fun dimension to the camping trip.
- Water Activities: The lake naturally facilitates several popular water-based activities. Reviewers explicitly "saw kayakers and fishers," indicating that the lake is suitable for both paddle sports and angling. This makes it an ideal spot for those who enjoy being on or near the water.
- Campfires Allowed: A significant highlight for campers is the ability to have campfires. One reviewer noted, "Since it rained, we were able to have a camp fire which made the trip even better." This suggests that campfires are permitted when conditions allow, enhancing the traditional camping experience. Visitors should always check local fire restrictions before lighting a fire.
- On-site Dining: A particularly "awesome restaurant with great service and good food!" is located right at the campground. This is a rare and highly valued amenity for a smaller campground, offering a convenient option for meals without needing to leave the site. This is perfect for those times when campers prefer not to cook or want to enjoy a prepared meal.
- Nearby Breakfast Diner: In addition to the on-site restaurant, there's a "breakfast diner super close by that was delicious food but only open on the weekends." This provides another convenient dining option, particularly for weekend campers looking for a prepared breakfast.
As a "Camping Near Me" destination, Finnon Lake Campground promotes itself through its tranquil lakeside setting, unique recreational offerings, and convenient dining options. The core appeal lies in the ability to camp directly by the water, offering a serene escape that is still accessible to local amenities. The positive feedback regarding the low pest count and the allowance of campfires (when conditions permit) are strong selling points for traditional campers seeking an authentic outdoor experience without excessive discomfort.
The presence of a disc golf course adds a distinct recreational draw, attracting a specific segment of the camping community or providing a new activity for curious visitors. The convenience of an "awesome restaurant" directly on-site, coupled with a nearby weekend breakfast diner, greatly enhances the overall comfort and convenience of the stay, especially for those who appreciate easy access to prepared meals while camping.
While specific pricing details or extensive promotional packages are not provided in the given information, the value is clearly derived from the quality of the natural environment, the unique activities offered, and the convenient dining options. The consistent positive sentiment in reviews suggests that visitors find the experience worthwhile. For individuals or families looking for a peaceful lakeside retreat with added recreational activities and dining convenience, Finnon Lake Campground in Placerville, CA, presents itself as a highly recommended option. Finnon Lake Campground Reviews
Great quick walk around the lake. Bathrooms available. Disc Golf. We saw kayakers and fishers. Decent smaller campground. Really awesome restaurant with great service and good food!
Oct 19, 2024 · Amy AmoAll the camp spots are decent size and surrounded by the lake. Usually when you camp near water the bugs can be terrible but this camp ground was surprisingly low on pests. Since it rained, we were able to have a camp fire which made the trip even better. There’s a breakfast diner super close by that was delicious food but only open on the weekends.
Aug 29, 2024 · Grace Stevens (Gracey)Camping is great at Finnon Lake, I was there mid week so it was nice and peaceful. The water was warm, so fun with my little boat.
Aug 24, 2024 · Tina SataraWe stayed in site 13. The whole site is on a slope (as are most of the sites on the water side), so it was a bit uncomfortable. The disc golf course is totally overgrown; my honey lost 7 discs this weekend, and he knows the course very well! But we had a great time anyway.
Jul 21, 2019 · Jessica Bennick ShevlinIf you want to enjoy silence and nature, than this is really a great place. Especially the travel and driving on ups and downs of hills with scenic beauty.Enjoy wildlife, deers grazing and running water streams at various locations.
