Glacier Campground Introduce
For local residents of West Glacier, Montana, and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me" with easy access to the wonders of Glacier National Park, Glacier Campground, located at 12070 US-2 #447, West Glacier, MT 59936, presents a conveniently situated option. This campground offers a blend of natural beauty, essential amenities, and proximity to the park entrance, making it a practical choice for those eager to explore Glacier's iconic landscapes. Based on recent customer reviews, Glacier Campground provides a pleasant stay with some considerations to keep in mind.
Picturesque Environment with Ample Shade
The environment of Glacier Campground is consistently praised for its natural beauty. One reviewer described it as "very picturesque" with "tall pine trees surrounding each site." This creates a visually appealing setting and provides ample shade for campers, which can be particularly welcome during warmer months. The abundance of trees contributes to a more secluded and natural feel for individual campsites, enhancing the overall camping experience. The proximity to the natural beauty of Glacier National Park itself is a major draw, with the campground serving as a gateway to the park's stunning scenery.
Essential Services and Amenities
Glacier Campground offers a range of services and amenities to cater to campers' needs. While some aspects have received mixed feedback, others have been positively noted. The availability of electric hookups is mentioned, although one reviewer experienced issues with a 20-amp service tripping the ground fault. While this particular camper didn't require electricity, it's a point to be aware of for those who rely on it. The campground provides showers, which, while described as "old," were also noted to be "clean" by one reviewer. This suggests that while the facilities might not be modern, they are maintained in a sanitary condition.
Laundry facilities are also available at Glacier Campground. However, one reviewer reported that "2 of four washing machines were not operating." This indicates that the availability of washing machines might be limited or unreliable. On a more positive note, the dryers were described as a "good value and worked," which is a practical amenity for longer stays or drying wet gear.
For families traveling with children, the presence of a "nice play area for kids" is a significant feature, providing a dedicated space for children to play and burn off energy. This amenity can enhance the camping experience for families and make the campground more appealing to those traveling with young ones.
A unique and convenient feature of Glacier Campground is the on-site "Sunflower cafe near the registration office." One reviewer had dinner there during a rainy afternoon and highly praised the food, specifically mentioning the "wonderful" briskets and the "carrot cakes were to die for!" This provides campers with a convenient dining option if they don't feel like cooking or are looking for a treat. The cafe's proximity to the campground is a significant advantage, especially after a long day of exploring the park.
Prime Location for Glacier National Park Access
One of the most significant advantages of Glacier Campground is its close proximity to the West Entrance of Glacier National Park. This strategic location offers several benefits for park visitors. Campers can "wake up early to enter without the vehicle registration" requirements that may apply later in the day. Furthermore, it provides a head start to reach popular destinations within the park, such as the Logan Pass entrance, before they become overcrowded. One reviewer noted that the Logan Pass entrance was "full around 8 am," highlighting the benefit of staying so close to the park entrance.
The Birch section of the campground is specifically mentioned as having "nice and clean" showers, suggesting that the quality of facilities might vary slightly within different areas of the campground. The staff is also described as "kind and informative," indicating a positive interaction with campground personnel who can provide assistance and information about the park and the surrounding area.
Overall Experience and Recommendations
One reviewer who had a "nice 3-day stay" at Glacier Campground stated that they "highly recommend" it. Another reviewer, while noting the electric issue and the state of the washing machines, mentioned they would "stay here if nothing else is available," indicating that despite some drawbacks, the campground is still a viable option, particularly due to its location. The overall sentiment suggests that the convenience and natural setting of Glacier Campground outweigh some of the reported shortcomings.

Glacier Campground Reviews
Stayed at campground in September, 20 amp electric kept blowing the ground fault. didn't need electric but would have been nice. Didn't bother to report. Showers were old but clean. 2 of four washing machines were not operating. Dryers were a good value and worked. Had a nice play area for kids. Lots of trees and shade. I will try a different campground next time but would stay here if nothing else is available.
Oct 04, 2024 · Richard LoefflerThis is a very picturesque campground with tall pine trees surrounding each site. We had dinner at the Sunflower cafe near the registration office during a rainy afternoon after we had run into the nearest town, the West Entrance, to find out all of the eateries there were full of people waiting in line to get food. The briskets served at the cafe were wonderful. The carrot cakes were to die for!The campground was close to the entrance to Glacier Park. We were able to wake up early to enter without the vehicle registration and also to get into the Logan Pass entrance before it is full. It was full around 8am!The showers (2) at the Birch section were nice and clean. The staff was kind and informative. We had a nice 3-day stay here. Highly recommend.
Aug 25, 2024 · DN NguyenAFTER I paid for reservations, they decided to implement a "dynamic pricing plan". They then increased the cost of my reservations by 50%. I informed them it was unethical and unprofessional and probably borderline illegal to change the price AFTER purchase. Their response was "terms and condition state prices subject to change", citing cost of inflation and needed repairs. I explained that usually refers to differences in website versus time of purchase. I understand cost of inflation (but 50%?) but not after purchase. In the end I cancelled my reservations because of their failure to comply with the reservation/contract. It was not so much about the price, but more about the ethical/legality of the process. And on top of that I was not given a full refund, even though it was they who violated the contract. This really sucks being a disabled vet on a fixed income. And yes I informed them of that as well.
Dec 27, 2024 · Tarry ConardWe stayed 2 nights here and had a lovely experience! The Sunflower Cafe was unfortunately closed the days we were there so we didn’t get to try it, but we will definitely be back!! The campground was about a 10 minute drive to the entrance of the park, so the location was very convenient. What stood out the most however, was the staff. The employees at the front desk were so friendly and accommodating. When our camping stove wasn’t working they offered to let us borrow an extra that they had and when we decided to extend our stay an extra night they were helpful and allowed us to have the same campsite! They also have a room with couches and a tv that is very cozy if you need to get any work done on your trip. The campground is decorated as-well, which adds to the charm. Overall, we had an amazing experience here.
Aug 14, 2024 · Eloise PopGreat place to stay, great location, friendly people. On a roadtrip from Salt Lake City -to- Seattle. We spend 3 nights at this campground ⛺️ . The location near Glacier National Park is great. The campground is basic, simple and beautiful. The pitches are good, although some are not suitable for tents due to the big boulders that make it impossible to put tent pegs in the ground. The free warm showers were very nice. The staff is very friendly and we would definitely come back if we got the chance. The big bonus for our family was the Middle Fork Flathead River where we spend a day swimming and jumping of bridges. Thanks for a lovely stay that will stick with us forever.
