Sundance Campground Introduce
Seeking "camping near me" with convenient access to the majestic Glacier National Park in Montana? Sundance Campground, located at 10545 Hwy 2 E, Columbia Falls, MT 59912, USA, presents itself as an option for those looking to explore this natural wonder. You can contact them at (406) 387-5016 or +1 406-387-5016 for inquiries about availability and reservations. Based on recent customer reviews, the campground offers both notable advantages and potential drawbacks that prospective campers should consider.
The environment of Sundance Campground is primarily defined by its "awesome location" – its close proximity to Glacier National Park is a significant draw for many visitors. This prime location allows for easy access to the park's stunning landscapes, hiking trails, and wildlife viewing opportunities. However, the campground's location directly off Highway 2 East also means that some campsites, particularly those closer to the road, may experience "a little traffic noise." While one reviewer noted that this noise "isn’t bad at all," it is a factor to be aware of when selecting a site. Additionally, another reviewer mentioned the campground's proximity to a railway line, with trains passing and blowing their horns "all throughout the night," which significantly impacted their ability to sleep. Therefore, while the proximity to Glacier is a major environmental advantage for park access, the adjacent highway and railway present potential noise pollution concerns.
In terms of services and features, Sundance Campground receives mixed feedback. One positive review highlights "clean bathrooms" and a "laundry area," which are valuable amenities for any camper, especially those on longer trips. The reviewer also appreciated that the bathrooms were "actual bathrooms" rather than primitive facilities. Furthermore, this reviewer noted the presence of a "great" host who was "very knowledgeable and friendly." This suggests that when staff is available, they can significantly enhance the camping experience with their helpfulness and local knowledge. However, a contrasting review paints a different picture regarding management presence and overall cleanliness. This reviewer reported arriving during supposed office hours to find "no one at the front office to help direct me" and an "abandoned" looking office. The lack of clear direction upon arrival created a negative initial experience. Moreover, this review detailed significant cleanliness issues, including "trash all over the campground and site" and "trash in our fire pit and trash at other campgrounds." The use of "non-bear resistant garbage cans" was cited as a likely cause, with bears having accessed the trash and scattered it around the grounds. This raises concerns about both the aesthetic environment and potential safety issues related to wildlife.
The features of Sundance Campground are somewhat contradictory based on the two reviews. The clean bathrooms and laundry facilities mentioned in the positive review are definite pluses, indicating that at least some essential amenities are well-maintained. The presence of a knowledgeable and friendly host, when available, is another valuable feature that can contribute to a positive stay. However, the negative review highlights significant shortcomings, such as the apparent lack of consistent management presence, poor cleanliness with trash scattered throughout the campground, and the use of inadequate garbage disposal systems in bear country. The issue of "unleashed dogs that roamed into our campsite multiple times throughout the night" also points to a potential lack of enforcement of campground rules regarding pets, which can detract from other campers' experiences and safety.
Promotional information is limited to the positive aspects mentioned in one review, such as the "awesome location" near Glacier National Park, the clean bathrooms and laundry, the great and friendly host, and the "good price." The reviewer explicitly states, "Definitely worth the stay, and at a good price. We will definitely be back :)." This serves as a strong recommendation based on their positive experience. However, it is crucial to balance this with the negative experience reported by another camper, which raises serious concerns about management, cleanliness, wildlife safety, and noise levels. Therefore, while the proximity to Glacier and the presence of some clean facilities and a friendly host are promotional points, the potential issues with management availability, trash, wildlife interaction, and noise from the highway and railway are significant counterpoints that cannot be ignored.
For local users searching for "camping near me" with the primary goal of visiting Glacier National Park, Sundance Campground's location is undoubtedly a major advantage. The short distance to the park entrance allows for more time exploring the natural wonders and less time traveling. The presence of clean bathrooms and laundry facilities can also be a significant convenience for travelers. However, prospective campers must carefully weigh these benefits against the potential drawbacks highlighted in the negative review. The issues of inconsistent management presence, the presence of trash and potential wildlife hazards due to non-bear resistant garbage cans, and the noise from the nearby highway and railway could significantly impact the overall camping experience.
It is advisable for anyone considering Sundance Campground to seek more recent reviews and potentially contact the campground directly to inquire about their current policies regarding waste management, pet control, and staff availability. Asking about the proximity of campsites to the highway and railway might also help in choosing a more secluded and quieter spot, if available. Given the stark contrast between the two provided reviews, it is possible that the campground's conditions and management have fluctuated over time, or that different campers have varying levels of tolerance for noise and different expectations regarding cleanliness and management presence.
In conclusion, Sundance Campground offers a prime location for those wishing to visit Glacier National Park, along with amenities like clean bathrooms and laundry, and a reportedly friendly host. However, potential campers should be aware of potential downsides, including possible noise from the adjacent highway and railway, and reported issues with management availability, campground cleanliness, and wildlife safety due to inadequate waste management. It is recommended to seek additional and recent information to get a more comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the campground before making a reservation. Balancing the convenience of its location with the potential for noise and cleanliness issues will be key for local users deciding if Sundance Campground is the right "camping near me" option for their Glacier National Park adventure.

Sundance Campground Reviews
This is a really great campground. Awesome location - it’s a very short distance to Glacier National Park. Clean bathrooms, laundry area, and campsites. These are actual bathrooms, instead of just a hole in the ground which was refreshing. The host is great, very knowledgeable and friendly. Campground is located right off of the highway, so you may hear a little traffic noise if you’re in one of the closer sites but it isn’t bad at all. Definitely worth the stay, and at a good price. We will definitely be back :)
Aug 09, 2024 · elizabeth mI reserved one night in early October, and when I arrived no one was at the front office to help direct me. There was no indication of what spots were taken and the front office appeared abandoned on the inside. We had arrived when the office was supposedly open, but we could find no staff or hosts. The email from my reservation also didn't give me any clear direction. There was trash all over the campground and site as non-bear resistant garbage cans were used and bears had gotten into the trash spreading it around the grounds. There was also trash in our fire pit and trash at other campgrounds. Other campers had unleashed dogs that roamed into our campsite multiple times throughout the night. The proximity of the campground to Glacier National Park is convenient, but it is also right next to railway with trains passing and blowing their horns all throughout the night making sleep difficult. The other reviews made this spot seem much better than it was when I visited. Unfortunately, I have to say it is one of the worst campsites I have visited.
Oct 28, 2024 · Kelton McConnellStayed here 8/14/24. This place is not fancy; is just off the highway; and there is an active rail line within audible range. That said, the noise is not excessive; the manager was friendly; the proximity to West Glacier is fantastic; the price is reasonable; they had availability last minute in mid-August. Bathroom with showers. If you have reasonable expectations you will be very pleased.
Aug 16, 2024 · Jon WattsThis park was exactly what we were looking for. Very back to nature ,no fancy sites with lots of lights but just a gorgeous wooded site feeling. The bathrooms we experiencedvwere always spotless as well as the laundry. The park manager is wonderful and very accommodating. As far as the train goes ,it doesn't really run right behind the property but it does run about every 2 hours on the side of the mountain so everyone in the area experiences the train nose ( meaning all the resorts in west Glacier area) . This entire arearelies heavy on being supplied by trains this the reason for the train noise.
Sep 01, 2024 · karen vadenThis campgrounds has a lot of good and bad aspects. It was fine for a few nights visiting Glacier on a budget but I probably wouldn't plan to go back in the future.Pros: the owner was really nice, the sites are cheap, it's a short drive to Glacier, the laundry room seemed nice, there was a deep sink available to wash dishes, there are some new bathrooms/laundry facilities being built (not open yet), there is electricity and water at the tent sites and not just the RV sites, the picnic tables and fire pits were in good shape, didn't have to worry about bears, there's a dirt road behind the campground that was nice to walk our dogCons: there's a train very close by that will blare its horn at odd hours of the night (the first night it went off around 10pm, 3:30-4:30am multiple times), the campground is also close to the road so there's a lot of road noise, the tent and RV sites are very close together, all the trash barrels near us were full the whole time we were there, the bathrooms were pretty gross and probably don't get cleaned regularly, the tent sites are a little overgrown and there were weeds growing all underneath our picnic table.
