Glendale Reservoir Campground Introduce
Are you searching for "camping near me" in the Preston, Idaho area, particularly a spot that offers lakeside recreation without the camping fees? Glendale Reservoir Campground, located in Preston, ID 83263, USA, presents a unique opportunity for a free camping experience right by Glendale Reservoir. Based on the available customer reviews, this campground offers a blend of natural beauty and convenient access to both outdoor activities and nearby town amenities, making it a noteworthy option for local campers.
The primary draw of Glendale Reservoir Campground, as highlighted by a reviewer, is its prime location directly by Glendale Reservoir. This provides exceptional access for various water-based activities such as boating, kayaking, and paddle boarding. For those who enjoy spending time on the water, this campground offers an invaluable and cost-effective basecamp.
One long-term visitor from Texas shared their experience of staying at the campground for about a month, indicating a degree of flexibility in terms of stay duration, although they mentioned moving campsites every 7 to 8 days to empty tanks (suggesting RV camping). This review also notes the absence of enforcement by Fish and Game or other authorities regarding campsite changes, which could be a factor for some campers to consider.
The review mentions the presence of "pit parties" and acknowledges that the pit toilets are not the newest but "don't stink too bad." This provides a candid perspective on the basic facilities available at the campground. It's important for potential visitors to be aware that the amenities might be rustic.
Interestingly, the reviewer points out the proximity to other resources. To the right on the main road is Bear River Resort, offering amenities like a water slide, Olympic pool, and mineral hot tub (though these are likely associated with the resort and not free to campground users). To the left of the campground, within a short distance, are the conveniences of service stations, convenience stores, chain hamburger places, a grocery store, Domino's Pizza, and several Mexican restaurants that the reviewer found to be quite good. This accessibility to town amenities is a significant advantage for campers who might need supplies or prefer occasional restaurant meals.
The reviewer also provides insights into the campground's occupancy patterns, noting that it tends to be pretty empty from Monday through Wednesday, making it easier to find a good spot. They also observed many tent campers during the summer and advise being prepared for varying weather conditions such as rain, wind, and heat. Weekends tend to see an increase in visitors, with people leaving their trailers, but the reviewer hadn't seen anyone staying there all summer.

Glendale Reservoir Campground Reviews
Great place to camp in Preston right by the lake! Also great access to the lake for boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc.
Jul 08, 2024 · Sarah StoutWe came up from Texas, to visit family. Ended up staying here for about a month. We would move every 7 to 8 days go empty our tanks and come back and park in another spot. We never did see anyone from Fish and Game or any of the other authorities in the area, come and tell anyone to move. Yes they are pit parties they are not the newest in the west but they don't stink too bad. But what pit party doesn't stink? You have Bear River Resort to the right on the main road and over the hill past the sanitary landfill. Water slide Olympic pool mineral hot tub. I'm into the left you have all of the conveniences of service stations convenience stores all the chain hamburger places. A grocery store, Domino's Pizza, a couple of Mexican restaurants in town that are really good. At least I think so. Not as good as Texas but they're close. Monday through Wednesday the campground is pretty empty so you can find a good spot. I've seen lots of people over the summer coming to tents. So just be prepared for the weather though, rain wind Heat. Thursday people do come up and leave their trailers for the weekend. But I haven't seen any that stay there all summer. Come and enjoy it's free and most of the time it's pretty quiet.
Aug 06, 2024 · Randy DouglassThe shoreline is very shallow so the kids were able to go out pretty far and still touch. The camping area isn't bad but it seems like it's more for RVs not tents. They do have a restroom and parking lot so that is wonderful!
Jul 05, 2023 · Samantha RyderNice lake and camping area. They don’t enforce the max stay and they don’t enforce the 48 hours unattended rule so some people leave their tiler there all summer. This sucks for others that would like to camp. We got there Wednesday and on Saturday a person showed up and verbally attacked us for parking too close to their usual spot where they leave their trailer all summer. We were a reasonable distance away but the fire pit they usually use was too close to our trailer so they were pissed and decided to stare at us all day then later at night they got drunk and came over to our camp and told us to “go back to Utah and I’m going to stick my foot up your a**”. Not exactly nice camping neighbors and very entitled. Highly recommend everyone go to Glendale just so this guy realizes he is not entitled to a private camping area on public land. This is a dog friendly camping area.
Aug 13, 2023 · Michaela ForbesBeautiful spot to spend a day swimming or boating or fishing. The rope swing is always fun. Could use a couple more public restrooms around the lake.
