Albert Moser Campground

Caribou Targee National Forest, Preston, ID 83263, USA

4.0
This is a really decent campground. The sites are fairly small for the most part but also fairly secluded. There is really good access to a couple decent hikes. And you're not very far from Willow flat which has access to other hikes as well. There is water nearby in spigots about every other site. The fire rings are great and there are benches in the sites. There are two sets of bathrooms which are the main source for me docking one star because they are not very pleasant. The Cub River runs right through the camp and has easy access from a few of the sites for some fun if you are okay with freezing cold water. The sites are fairly shaded as well, which is nice in the summer. We went in mid-July and had no problem with bugs. There's a parking lot across the bridge and a larger one across the road for extra cars if needs be.The hosts are actually up at the willow flat campground if you need them. No one in our party got service in this camp. - Colton Kilmer

Albert Moser Campground Introduce

When searching for "camping near me" in the scenic landscapes of Idaho, particularly near Preston within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, Albert Moser Campground presents a compelling option for tent campers seeking a more secluded and nature-oriented experience. Located at Caribou Targee National Forest, Preston, ID 83263, USA, this campground, reachable at (877) 444-6777 or +1 877-444-6777, offers a decent camping environment with unique characteristics as highlighted by visitor reviews.

The environment of Albert Moser Campground is described as "very green" and "fairly shaded," making it a pleasant retreat during the summer months, as one reviewer noted a comfortable mid-July stay without significant bug issues. The presence of "lots of birds" contributes to the natural ambiance, although campers should be prepared for potential early morning wake-up calls from the avian residents. The campground is situated within the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, suggesting a setting rich in natural beauty and opportunities for outdoor exploration. Notably, the Cub River runs directly through the camp, providing easy access to its "freezing cold water" from a few of the campsites, offering a refreshing (albeit chilly) experience for those inclined. The overall atmosphere is one of a natural woodland, providing a contrast to more open or developed camping areas.

In terms of services and features, Albert Moser Campground offers a somewhat rustic experience. Water spigots are available approximately every other site, providing a convenient water source for campers. Each site is equipped with "great" fire rings and benches, enhancing the traditional camping experience around a campfire. There are two sets of bathrooms available, although one reviewer docked a star due to them not being "very pleasant," indicating that the comfort and cleanliness of these facilities might be a point of consideration for some visitors. For parking, there is a parking lot located across a bridge within the campground and a larger one across the road, providing ample space for extra vehicles if needed.

A significant feature of Albert Moser Campground is its excellent access to hiking trails. Reviewers specifically mentioned "a couple decent hikes" directly accessible from the campground, as well as its proximity to Willow Flat, which offers access to even more hiking opportunities. This makes it an ideal base for those searching for "camping near me" with a focus on exploring the trails and natural beauty of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. The Cub River running through the campground also adds a unique feature, offering the possibility of wading or playing in the water, for those brave enough to face the cold temperatures. The shaded campsites are a valuable feature, particularly during warmer weather, providing relief from the sun.

It is crucial to note a significant limitation of Albert Moser Campground: it is "NOT a place for camping trailers." While a couple of spots might accommodate a smaller trailer, the campground is primarily designed for tent camping. This is an essential piece of information for local users searching for "camping near me" with RVs or larger trailers; Albert Moser Campground is likely not a suitable option for them. The smaller, more secluded nature of the sites, while appreciated by tent campers, contributes to this limitation regarding trailer accommodation.

Another important aspect to be aware of is the lack of cell phone service within the campground, as reported by a visitor. This reinforces the off-grid feel and might be a consideration for those who need to stay connected. Campground hosts are not located directly at Albert Moser Campground but can be found at the Willow Flat Campground if assistance is needed. This implies a degree of self-sufficiency for campers staying at Albert Moser Campground.

While specific promotional information or discounts are not mentioned in the reviews, the positive feedback regarding the natural environment, hiking access, and the unique features like the Cub River and shaded sites serve as inherent attractions. Local users looking for a more traditional and secluded tent camping experience in a beautiful national forest setting might find the lack of extensive amenities offset by the natural appeal and recreational opportunities available.

In conclusion, Albert Moser Campground in the Caribou-Targhee National Forest near Preston, Idaho, offers a "really decent" option for those searching for "camping near me," particularly tent campers. Its environment is characterized by greenery, ample shade, and the presence of the Cub River. Key features include excellent access to hiking trails, fire rings and benches at each site, and a generally secluded atmosphere. However, potential visitors should be aware that it is not suitable for camping trailers, the bathrooms might be less than ideal, and cell phone service is unavailable. The quiet, natural setting and proximity to recreational activities make it a great place for camping, especially for those who prioritize a more rustic and nature-focused experience. Local users seeking this type of camping adventure in the Preston area should consider Albert Moser Campground, keeping in mind its suitability primarily for tent camping.

For local residents of Idaho or those planning a camping trip to the Caribou-Targhee National Forest, Albert Moser Campground provides an opportunity to immerse oneself in nature, enjoy hiking, and experience the unique charm of camping alongside the Cub River. The off-grid nature and the emphasis on tent camping contribute to its appeal for those seeking a more traditional and less commercialized camping experience. While the bathroom facilities might be a drawback for some, the overall positive reviews regarding the environment and recreational access suggest a worthwhile camping destination for the right kind of camper.
