Paris Springs Campground

Forest Rd 427, Preston, ID 83263, USA

4.0
This is a cozy 12-site campground, with sites right by Paris Creek. The creek is fed by Paris Springs, which is just a short walk from the campground. It is truly amazing to witness the water emerging from the ground and forming a gushing creek within a few short feet! There's an interesting beaver complex along the road into the campground, and a 2-mile-ish ATV trail that leads from the campground down into Bloomington Canyon. We hiked it, and enjoyed the exercise - watch for free range cattle, including a possible loose bull. It's still a long hike (maybe 5 - 6 miles) further up Bloomington Canyon road to the lake from the ATV trail junction with the road, however. Sites 5 - 9 are pull-through, but a bit tight. Our 28 foot Cougar made it in and out okay, but a longer trailer might have trouble. We will bring some loppers next time to remove some small branches that were close. Great spot, quiet even on Labor Day weekend, lovely sound of the creek nearby, great stargazing. Get the fresh raspberry shakes and drop by the Hermitage Art Gallery in Paris, and take the free Paris Tabernacle tour while you are at it! You are also close to Bear Lake Wildlife Refuge for some awesome birdwatching. - Elissa Novy

Paris Springs Campground Introduce

Looking for a charming and intimate "camping near me" experience? Paris Springs Campground, nestled along Forest Rd 427 in Preston, Idaho, within the Caribou Targee National Forest, offers a cozy retreat for local outdoor enthusiasts. This small, 12-site campground is uniquely situated right beside the picturesque Paris Creek, providing a tranquil and scenic environment for a relaxing getaway. If you appreciate the soothing sounds of flowing water and a more secluded camping atmosphere, Paris Springs Campground could be your ideal local escape.

One of the campground's most remarkable features is its close proximity to Paris Springs, the very source of the creek that meanders alongside the campsites. A short walk from the campground will lead you to this natural wonder, where you can witness firsthand the impressive sight of water emerging from the ground to form a gushing creek within a short distance. This natural phenomenon is described as "truly amazing" by visitors and offers a unique point of interest for campers of all ages.

The environment surrounding Paris Springs Campground is rich in natural beauty and opportunities for wildlife observation. The road leading into the campground is home to an "interesting beaver complex," offering a chance to observe these industrious creatures in their natural habitat. For those seeking more active pursuits, a 2-mile-ish ATV trail originates from the campground, leading down into the scenic Bloomington Canyon. While primarily intended for ATVs, hikers can also enjoy this trail for exercise, keeping an eye out for free-range cattle, including the possibility of a loose bull, adding a touch of rural charm to the experience. However, it's important to note that reaching Bloomington Lake from the ATV trail junction involves a significantly longer hike (approximately 5-6 miles further up Bloomington Canyon road).

The campground itself features a limited number of campsites, contributing to its cozy and intimate feel. Sites 5 through 9 are designed as pull-through sites, offering convenience for those with trailers. However, it's worth noting that these sites are described as "a bit tight." One visitor with a 28-foot Cougar trailer reported managing to navigate in and out okay but suggested that longer trailers might encounter difficulties. This is crucial information for local users with larger RVs to consider before planning their visit. The same visitor also mentioned the presence of some small branches close to the sites, suggesting that future visitors with larger rigs might want to bring loppers for minor trimming if needed.

Despite its proximity to natural attractions and the potential for weekend crowds elsewhere, Paris Springs Campground is praised for its quiet atmosphere, even during peak times like Labor Day weekend. The "lovely sound of the creek nearby" contributes significantly to the peaceful ambiance, creating a soothing backdrop for relaxation and sleep. Furthermore, the campground offers "great stargazing" opportunities, likely due to its location away from significant light pollution, allowing campers to enjoy the beauty of the night sky.

While the natural environment and the campground's tranquility are major draws, one visitor's experience highlights a potential consideration for those seeking absolute peace and quiet. They reported an issue with noise emanating from the group camp section, including music, amplified games, and general boisterous behavior, which detracted from the peacefulness of their stay. This serves as a reminder that while the campground generally offers a quiet environment, the behavior of other campers can occasionally impact the experience. However, the reviewer acknowledged that their negative experience might have been due to "campground roulette" and that the campground is likely "divine" when such neighbors are not present.

To enhance your local camping trip to Paris Springs Campground, visitors have recommended exploring the nearby town of Paris, Idaho. A visit to the Hermitage Art Gallery and a free tour of the historic Paris Tabernacle are suggested activities. Additionally, the campground's location offers proximity to the Bear Lake Wildlife Refuge, providing excellent opportunities for "awesome birdwatching" for nature enthusiasts.

In summary, Paris Springs Campground offers a unique and appealing "camping near me" experience with the following features and considerations:
