Redpoint Campground

Preston, ID 83263, USA

4.0
We really enjoyed this campground and the hosts were very helpful and kept the bathroom stocked/clean. We had about 25 people using 2 sites and had a great time! Good fishing within walking distance. Close enough to the dam & the put in for floating the River. Spectacular views and my favorite place to stay in the narrows. - Adam Winger

Redpoint Campground Introduce

For local residents of Preston, Idaho, and the surrounding areas seeking a picturesque "camping near me" experience, Redpoint Campground offers a compelling option. Located in Preston, ID 83263, this campground has garnered positive feedback from visitors who rave about its stunning natural beauty, convenient river access, and helpful campground hosts. If you're looking for a local getaway with spectacular views and opportunities for fishing and river activities, Redpoint Campground might just be your new favorite spot.

One of the most consistently praised aspects of Redpoint Campground is its breathtaking environment. Visitors describe it as "really beautiful," with "amazing" views of the rocks in the canyon and the river that flows alongside it. Depending on the specific campsite you secure, you might be treated to "unobstructed riverfront views," allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the natural splendor of the area. The scenic vistas of the canyon walls and the flowing river create a truly memorable backdrop for your camping experience.

The campground's location is also a significant advantage for those interested in water-based activities. It is noted to have "good fishing within walking distance," making it an ideal destination for local anglers looking to cast a line without venturing too far from their campsite. Furthermore, Redpoint Campground is conveniently located "close enough to the dam & the put in for floating the River." This accessibility makes it a prime choice for those planning to enjoy a leisurely float down the river, a popular recreational activity in the region. The combination of fishing and floating opportunities right at your doorstep enhances the appeal of this campground for outdoor enthusiasts.

While the natural beauty and recreational access are significant draws, the positive experiences shared by campers also highlight the quality of the campground's management. Visitors have specifically mentioned that the "hosts were very helpful" and diligently "kept the bathroom stocked/clean." This attention to cleanliness and the helpfulness of the staff contribute significantly to a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience, ensuring that basic necessities are well taken care of.

In terms of facilities, Redpoint Campground provides essential amenities for a comfortable stay in a natural setting. These include "pit toilets," which are a common type of restroom in more rustic campgrounds. While not as luxurious as flush toilets, well-maintained pit toilets can still provide adequate sanitation. Each campsite is also equipped with a "picnic table," offering a convenient space for meals and gatherings, and a "fire ring," allowing for campfires (subject to local fire regulations) and the traditional outdoor cooking experience. Additionally, the campground features a "fishing dock," providing dedicated access to the river for anglers.

For those looking to explore beyond the immediate river area, Redpoint Campground is also "not very far away from the reservoir." This proximity offers additional opportunities for water-based recreation, such as boating, swimming, and potentially more fishing options in the larger body of water. The convenience of having both river and reservoir access nearby adds to the versatility of Redpoint Campground as a local camping destination.

One unique and somewhat unusual piece of information shared by a visitor is the warning that the campground "is in a tsunami zone!" While this might seem alarming, it's important to consider the geological context of the region. Idaho is not typically associated with coastal tsunamis. This comment likely refers to the potential for a tsunami-like wave event on a lake or reservoir caused by a significant landslide or seismic activity within the canyon or surrounding area. While the risk of such an event might be low, it's a noteworthy piece of information that local users might want to be aware of and perhaps inquire about with local authorities or the campground management for more context and safety guidelines.

The positive reviews, such as one group of 25 people using two sites who "had a great time," serve as strong promotional endorsements for Redpoint Campground. The combination of spectacular views, river access, helpful hosts, and essential amenities creates a positive camping experience that encourages repeat visits and recommendations. The reviewer who described it as their "favorite place to stay in the narrows" further emphasizes the special appeal of this location.
