Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the Barryville, NY area, Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp, located at 3854 NY-97, Barryville, NY 12719, is associated with outdoor activities along the Delaware River. You can contact them at (845) 682-3539 or +1 845-682-3539. While historically a frequented spot for some, recent customer reviews highlight significant concerns that potential visitors should be aware of.
One long-time visitor, who had been coming to the location for over 20 years, noted some improvements over time but described a recent visit as "ridiculous." This suggests that while the location may have had positive aspects in the past, current conditions have declined in the opinion of at least one returning customer. The specific issues mentioned include "huge potholes" in the roads within the campground, garbage bins without bags, and unmowed grass areas around some campsites, even towards the end of the season when sites were still occupied. This indicates potential issues with the upkeep and maintenance of the campground grounds.
The same reviewer also detailed a problematic experience with a "lock in fee" of $25 paid to guarantee specific site locations. Despite this fee, their group was moved to subpar sites near porta potties without prior notification. After complaining, they were given a limited selection of alternative sites, resulting in over an hour spent navigating the pothole-ridden roads to find comparable sites to their original choices. This reflects poorly on the reservation management and communication with customers, especially given that the lock-in fee was not honored or refunded.
Furthermore, the reviewer noted the absence of a security guard, despite a visible booth, and significant issues with internet connectivity. The only Wi-Fi was near the general store (where check-in occurs), requiring a walk or drive to access, and the speed was described as "horrible and slow." Coupled with zero cellular coverage in the area, this lack of reliable communication options, even for emergencies, is a significant drawback in the reviewer's opinion, especially in today's connected world. They suggested the management consider upgrading their internet infrastructure, possibly through satellite services like Starlink.
Another recent reviewer also expressed strong disappointment with the management and customer service. Having camped there for two years previously, they booked seven riverfront sites, which are more expensive, only to have them canceled due to flooding. Their group was then moved to a small and rocky group campground site located far back on a mountain, which they had stayed in the previous year and did not want again. While understanding the situation with the flooding, the reviewer expected a partial refund for the more expensive riverfront sites that were not provided. Despite calling weekly for a month and sending three emails, they reported rude customer service and an inability to get their billing issue resolved, with repeated assurances that a specific person, Vanessa, would handle it when she had time, which had not happened after a month. This paints a concerning picture of the customer service responsiveness and willingness to address billing discrepancies.
Based on these reviews, local users considering Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp for "camping near me" should be aware of potential issues with campground maintenance, reservation handling (especially regarding site guarantees), customer service responsiveness, and the lack of reliable internet or cellular service. While the location's association with the Delaware River might suggest opportunities for water-based activities (implied by the "Kittatinny Canoes" part of the name), the recent experiences reported by campers focus more on the shortcomings of the campground itself.
To get a balanced view, local users might want to inquire directly about the current conditions of the roads and campsites, the reliability of their reservation system, their policies on site changes and refunds, and the availability of Wi-Fi or any plans for improvement. Given the negative feedback regarding customer service, it would be prudent to have clear written confirmation of any bookings or agreements.
There is no promotional information present in these reviews. The overall sentiment leans towards caution due to the reported issues. Therefore, local users seeking "camping near me" should carefully consider these recent experiences alongside any potential attractions of the location (such as proximity to the Delaware River, which is not detailed in these reviews) before making a decision.
In conclusion, Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp may have had a positive reputation in the past, but recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding campground maintenance, reservation management, customer service, and the lack of essential amenities like reliable internet and cellular service. Local users looking for "camping near me" should weigh these factors carefully and consider contacting the campground directly for the most up-to-date information before booking a stay.

Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp Reviews
Been coming here since I was a teen which was many years ago (20+). Although they have made some improvements over the years, this past month we gathered up some friends and returned. This visit prompted me to write a review because the campground was ridiculous; the roads were full of huge potholes, the garbage bins didn't have bags, some grass areas around the sites were not mowed, etc. I realize our visit was towards the tail end of their season, but if you have people staying on those sites, at least make sure the area doesn't have half a foot of grass! We also paid a lock in fee of $25 for our sites which guaranteed our site location/number. However, we were moved without any previous notification to another site that was subpar to the ones we initially selected. The staff simply put us at some random sites next to porta potties. It was unacceptable so they gave us a list of very limited sites to select from. Wasted over an hour driving around to random sites till we found comparable ones that we initially selected - it was slow because of the Toyota sized potholes. These are camp sites not some hotel/resort where the rooms are mostly the same, so do not be switching sites without advance notice, but also charge us for a lock in fee which you never upheld. You took the reservation but never held on to the reservation. The only success criteria here is to hold on to the reservation that your customers booked and paid for. We never got a refund for the lock in fee that was mentioned by the way. I also noticed your security guard is no longer there; there's a booth but no one was ever there. Finally, we are now in 2024 approaching 2025, please have at a least a decent WIFI accessibility for emergencies (family, medical, security, etc). The only WIFI is by the general store where people check-in, but you have to drive/walk to its vicinity. The speed/bandwidth was horrible and slow as molasses - and there weren't many people there so I would hate to imagine peak season when everyone has to share that bandwidth. There's zero cellular coverage so you all really need to improve on this. At least upgrade your system for emergency services, there are internet providers like Starlink (via satellite) that provides fast internet coverage that's pretty affordable for a business your size. Remember that it's mostly people like me (suburb/metro) that goes camping for the great outdoors so we would appreciate internet access for mentioned reasons. Please do better.
Oct 28, 2024 · STI’m very disappointed with the management and customer service of this campsite. I’ve camped there with my family for two years now. This year for a weekend about a month ago. I have booked seven river front sites which are more expensive, unfortunately the campsite cancelled them due to flooding. They ended up sending us to one group campground site which its small and rocky, all the way back of the campsite on a mountain. My family and I stayed in that same site last year, and we didn’t want to stay there this year again. However, I understand the flooding situation so we said its okay. The least, I was expecting from the campsite was to adjust the numbers and refund me half of the money I have already paid them.I have called them every week for a month now. I have sent them 3 different emails. The customer service & management is very rude, they told me they can’t do anything about it. They said only Vanessa can look at my bill and refund me my money back. I asked them politely when I can expect a call back from her, but they tell me she is very busy and is in meetings all day. She will call when she has time. Its been a month now. So disappointing! Definitely reconsidering camping there next year.
Sep 02, 2024 · Ana QuinteroIt’s great being close to the water but the management sucks ass. Nobody enforces the quiet hours and our neighbors kept blasting music all day up until 1-2AM.On the flip side though I think I can understand spanish now that my ears have been forced to listen to it for 12 hours straight.
Oct 13, 2024 · Kyle CastilloAbsolutely amazing experience! The campground was clean and well-equipped, perfect for our family camping trip. The staff were friendly and helpful, making us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The river trip from Barryville to Pond Eddy was the highlight and made for an unforgettable adventure. We can't wait to go back for more fun on the water and peaceful nights under the stars. Highly recommend for anyone looking to escape into nature!
Jul 25, 2024 · Deathshot 69Nice staff, great river trips but water was too sulfur laden to use/well not working for all cabins on my visit according to front desk staff. You can’t shower without gagging. No cooking or teeth brushing either unfortunately. I hope they fix it soon as otherwise a great little campground perfectly located.Response to owner response:I appreciate more information you provided. When I asked your staff at the counter said it was every single cabin and shower in the campground and there was nothing she could do. She shared none of the details that water was safe to use. This being the case I feel due a partial refund as we expected to be able to use our shower/kitchen fullyfor the price we paid.
