Lake Shore Campground Introduce
Are you searching for “camping near me” and considering a stay in the Provo, Utah area, perhaps hoping for a lakeside camping experience? This introduction provides local users with a detailed overview of Lake Shore Campground, combining publicly available information with recent camper reviews to help you determine if this location meets your needs for a pleasant outdoor stay. Understanding the environment, services, and features of a campground is essential for planning a successful and enjoyable camping trip.
Lake Shore Campground is located in Provo, UT 84601, USA. For inquiries or reservations, you can contact them at (801) 375-0731 or via their mobile phone at +1 801-375-0731. Having these contact details readily available is crucial for travelers planning their itinerary or seeking specific information about the park.
Despite its name, one of the initial points raised in the reviews is that Lake Shore Campground is "not on the lake." This is a critical piece of information for those specifically searching for “camping near me” with direct lake access or waterfront views. The reviewer does mention a "great museum next door," although it was closed during their visit, suggesting a potential nearby attraction for campers to explore.
In contrast to the comment about not being on the lake, another reviewer who stayed in the middle of May described Lake Shore Campground as "one of the most beautiful campgrounds." This indicates that the aesthetic appeal of the campground itself might be a significant draw, particularly during certain times of the year. This reviewer highlighted several positive features, including water and 30-amp power hookups available at each site, as well as a pavilion. These are valuable amenities for RV campers, providing essential utilities and a covered outdoor space.
The restrooms in the camping loop were described as "pretty decent," which suggests that while they might not be luxurious, they meet a reasonable standard of cleanliness and functionality for campers. The presence of a sewage dump station located at the exit is also a convenient feature for RV owners as they prepare to leave the campground.
The reviewer who found the campground beautiful also noted the pleasant weather conditions during sunny days, suggesting that under favorable skies, the environment is indeed appealing. However, they also cautioned about sudden changes in weather, specifically mentioning rain and "crazy wind" that could potentially blow away tents and affect RV setups. This highlights the importance of being prepared for variable weather conditions when camping in this area.
A significant environmental factor mentioned in this positive review is the presence of "lots of mosquitos." This is a common issue in many outdoor locations, especially near water sources (even if the campground isn't directly on the lake), and campers should come prepared with insect repellent and appropriate clothing to mitigate this. The reviewer humorously noted this with a "haha!" but it is still a practical consideration for anyone planning a stay.
The reviewer concluded by stating that the campground would be a "5 star" experience if the sites were full hookup (including sewer connections). The absence of full hookups is a limitation for some RVers who prefer the convenience of on-site sewer connections, especially for longer stays. However, the availability of water and 30-amp power is still a significant advantage over more primitive camping options.
Considering these two reviews, Lake Shore Campground presents a mixed picture. While it might not offer the direct lakeside experience that its name could imply, it is described as beautiful, particularly during mid-May, and provides essential amenities like water and 30-amp power at each site, along with decent restrooms and a sewage dump station. The presence of a pavilion at each site is also a notable feature, offering shade and a gathering space.
However, potential campers should be aware of the possibility of strong winds and the likely presence of mosquitos. The lack of full hookups might be a drawback for some RV travelers. Additionally, the initial reviewer's comment about the campground being "very expensive" is a crucial factor to consider, as value for money is always an important aspect of choosing a campsite. The proximity to a museum, while a potential benefit, might not be relevant to all campers, especially if it is frequently closed.
When searching for “camping near me,” it's essential to weigh the amenities and aesthetic appeal of a campground against its potential drawbacks, such as location relative to specific attractions (like a lake), environmental factors (like mosquitos and wind), and cost. Lake Shore Campground appears to offer a well-equipped base for camping in the Provo area, especially for those with RVs needing water and electric hookups. The beauty of the campground, particularly in the spring, is a significant positive.
For those considering Lake Shore Campground, it would be wise to inquire about the current pricing to assess if it aligns with their budget and expectations given the amenities offered. Preparation for mosquitos and potential strong winds is also advisable. If direct lake access is a must, alternative “camping near me” options that are explicitly located on Utah Lake might be more suitable. However, if a beautiful campground with water and electric hookups, along with a pavilion at each site, meets your needs, Lake Shore Campground could be a strong contender, especially during the favorable weather conditions of mid-May.
When evaluating “camping near me,” consider the following factors based on the information available for Lake Shore Campground:
- Location: Not directly on Utah Lake, despite its name. Located near a museum. Approximately in Provo, UT 84601.
- Amenities: Water and 30-amp power hookups at each site. Pavilion at each site. "Pretty decent" restrooms in the loop. Sewage dump station at the exit. No full hookups (sewer).
- Environment: Described as "one of the most beautiful campgrounds" in mid-May. Potential for sudden rain and strong winds. Likely presence of "lots of mosquitos."
- Cost: Considered "very expensive" by one reviewer, suggesting it might be priced at a premium compared to other options.
- Nearby Attractions: Located next to a museum (though its operating hours should be checked).
Prospective visitors to Lake Shore Campground should weigh the positive aspects, such as the beauty of the campground and the provided amenities (water, power, pavilion), against the drawbacks, including the lack of direct lake access, the potential for mosquitos and strong winds, and the reported high cost. It is recommended to contact the campground directly to inquire about current pricing, seasonal conditions (especially regarding bugs and weather), and any other specific needs or preferences. As with any search for “camping near me,” a thorough evaluation based on all available information will help ensure a satisfying camping experience in the Provo area.

Lake Shore Campground Reviews
Very expensive and not on the lake. Great museum next door but they were closed when we got there
Mar 13, 2025 · Gwen WrightOne of the most beautiful campgrounds when we stayed there middle of May! It has water, 30amp power and pavilion at each site, and pretty decent restrooms in the loop. The sewage dump station located in the exit. It is so beautiful in the sunny day. The rain and wind would come suddenly. Crazy wind could blow away your tent and RV. Be prepared, lots of mosquitos, haha! It would be 5 star if the sites are full hookup.
May 20, 2023 · john zhangVery very beautiful views. The campground is very well maintained and kept clean. Really enjoyed our one night stay on the way to salt lake but will be back some other days.
Apr 27, 2023 · Xiaohong D.Lovely quiet spot for a quick stop. Very clean, full hookups. Be sure to take a walk around the marina. Yes there were bugs in the evening, but not as bad as others experienced. They dont bite or sting. I didnt like that I paid a Reserve America $13.00 transaction fee for booking online, making my total $53.00. Drive ups pay only $40.
