Utah Lake State Park Group Campground Introduce
Are you searching for “camping near me” and considering a group camping experience near Utah Lake in Provo, Utah? This introduction provides local users with a detailed overview of Utah Lake State Park Group Campground, combining publicly available information with recent camper reviews to help you determine if this location is suitable for your group’s outdoor adventure. Understanding the environment, services, and features of a campground is crucial for planning a successful and enjoyable group camping trip.
Utah Lake State Park Group Campground is located in Provo, UT 84601, USA. For inquiries or reservations, you can contact them at (801) 375-0731 or via their mobile phone at +1 801-375-0731. Having these contact details readily available is essential for group leaders needing to make arrangements and gather specific information about the campground.
Utah Lake State Park itself is a significant recreational area in the region, offering opportunities for boating, fishing, swimming, and wildlife viewing. The presence of a group campground within the state park suggests facilities designed to accommodate larger parties, potentially including multiple campsites in close proximity, group picnic areas, and possibly shared amenities. However, the specific features and services of the group campground are not detailed in the provided information, and we must rely heavily on the recent customer reviews to understand the current state of the camping experience.
The two provided reviews paint a concerning picture of the conditions at Utah Lake State Park Group Campground. Both reviewers highlight significant issues that could severely impact a group's camping experience. The first review emphatically states, “Bugs gone wild! There are so many swarms everywhere.” The reviewer describes an overwhelming presence of insects, to the point of being “unsettling” due to the constant buzzing. While acknowledging that the overall camp experience might be “very lovely” if one is tolerant of bugs, this level of infestation seems to have been a major deterrent for this camper, leading them to consider booking elsewhere in the future.
The second review echoes the sentiment about the insect problem, stating, “Bugs are horrible!” This consistency across two independent recent reviews strongly suggests that an excessive bug population is a significant and current issue at the campground. For any group planning outdoor activities, especially those involving food or spending extended time outdoors, a severe bug infestation could be a major drawback, affecting comfort and potentially the enjoyment of the entire trip.
Beyond the insect issue, the second reviewer raises several other serious concerns. They describe the water as “gross and murky,” which could be problematic if the group intends to use the lake for swimming or other water-based activities. The presence of “trash all over the beach area” indicates a potential lack of cleanliness and maintenance in a key recreational space within the park. This could detract from the natural beauty of the area and create an unpleasant environment for campers.
Furthermore, the reviewer notes issues with pet owners not cleaning up after their dogs on the beach and near the water. This is not only a sanitation concern but also a potential health hazard and a sign of disrespectful behavior that impacts the overall environment of the park. For groups with members who are sensitive to cleanliness or who have children, this could be particularly troubling.
The review also mentions people “swimming and fishing off the docks, where only boats should be.” This suggests a lack of enforcement of park rules, potentially leading to unsafe conditions and conflicts between different user groups. If the designated swimming and fishing areas are not clearly marked or if rules are not enforced, it could detract from the experience of those using the lake as intended.
Finally, the second reviewer states that the “bathrooms weren’t clean.” For any campground, especially a group campground where facilities are likely shared by a larger number of people, clean and well-maintained restrooms are essential for hygiene and comfort. Reports of unclean bathrooms are a significant concern and suggest potential issues with the park’s maintenance or the behavior of other visitors.
Based on these two recent reviews, the experience at Utah Lake State Park Group Campground seems to be significantly marred by pervasive insect problems, issues with water quality and cleanliness, irresponsible behavior by some visitors (regarding pets and adherence to lake usage rules), and unclean bathroom facilities. The only caveat in the second review is the recommendation to stay on the lake the entire time, implying that conditions might be more tolerable away from the immediate beach and campground areas. However, for a group intending to utilize the campground facilities and the beach area, these reviews paint a discouraging picture.
When searching for “camping near me” for a group outing, key considerations typically include the availability of group-specific campsites, the quality of amenities (such as restrooms and water sources), the cleanliness of the grounds, the presence of activities and attractions, and the overall environment and safety of the location. Based on the recent feedback, Utah Lake State Park Group Campground appears to fall short in several of these areas, particularly regarding insect control, cleanliness, and the behavior of some park visitors.
Given the severity of the issues raised in the reviews, it would be prudent for any group considering this campground to seek further information and potentially explore alternative “camping near me” options in the Provo area. Contacting the Utah Lake State Park management directly to inquire about the current conditions, any ongoing pest control efforts, and measures being taken to address the cleanliness and rule enforcement issues would be a crucial step before making a booking.
When evaluating “camping near me” for a group, consider the following factors based on the limited information and negative reviews for Utah Lake State Park Group Campground:
- Environment: Reportedly plagued by a severe bug infestation. The lake water is described as gross and murky. The beach area is noted to have trash.
- Cleanliness: Significant concerns raised about trash on the beach and unclean bathroom facilities. Issues with pet waste not being picked up.
- Rule Enforcement: Apparent lack of enforcement regarding swimming and fishing in boat-only areas.
- Amenities: Specific amenities for the group campground are not detailed, but the condition of the bathrooms is a major concern.
- Overall Experience: Recent reviews strongly advise against visiting unless planning to stay on the lake itself, suggesting a poor experience on the campground and beach areas.
Prospective groups considering Utah Lake State Park Group Campground should take the recent negative feedback very seriously. The issues described could significantly detract from a group camping experience. It is highly recommended to seek up-to-date information from the park management regarding these problems and to consider alternative campgrounds in the vicinity that might offer a cleaner, more enjoyable, and less bug-ridden environment for your group. As with any search for “camping near me,” a thorough investigation of recent conditions and amenities is essential for planning a successful group camping trip.

Utah Lake State Park Group Campground Reviews
Bugs gone wild! There are so many swarms everywhere. If you’re okay with the bugs, very lovely overall camp experience but there’s something so unsettling about not seeing a swarm and hearing the buzz of 10,000 friendly bugs in your ears that will have me booking elsewhere.
Jun 17, 2024 · Emily RaberBugs are horrible! Water is gross and murky. Trash all over the beach area. People let their dogs use the restroom all over the beach and near the water, weren't picking up after them. People swimming and fishing off the docks, where only boats should be. Bathrooms weren't clean. Unless you're staying on the lake the entire time, would not recommend.
Jul 07, 2024 · A PVery nice, and well maintained facilities. Water and electricity provided at each site. View is incredible. I would definitely stay here again!
Jul 11, 2023 · Doug FrazelleWe love kayaking and swimming at the lake. They have a few covered tables and bathrooms! The water is really shallow so it's safer for kids to play on the water.
May 17, 2022 · Joey JohnsonNice campground. Expensive I thought at $40 night.Loaded with flying bugs, the air hummed loud with bug activity. All sites pull thru if you need that.
