Customer reviews offer a mixed but informative perspective on Lakeview Campsite. One long-time visitor mentions a sense of nostalgia but points out that many facilities, including the bathrooms, showers, and docks, are in need of updating. They describe the bathrooms as "barely above pit toilets" and the showers as having lukewarm water with a weak flow. The docks are also noted as being in disrepair. However, this reviewer highly praises the owners as being "super great and chill" and loving people, suggesting a positive and welcoming personal interaction.
In contrast, another reviewer highlights the campground's beautiful and established setting, emphasizing its hidden and quiet nature, which is a significant draw for those seeking a peaceful environment. They also mention its child and dog-friendly policies, making it suitable for families and pet owners. The presence of a nice pool is also noted as a positive amenity.
A family that stayed with two other families and their dogs shared a more detailed experience. They acknowledged that the campground is a "tight ship," implying a structured environment, but found it to be quiet, clean, and offering a variety of activities. Their group enjoyed fishing nearly every day, paddleboarding, and visiting the nearby Nordhouse Dunes. For children, the sand piles, pool, and tetherball provided entertainment. This suggests that despite some of the infrastructure concerns, the campground offers ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.
This group also appreciated the helpfulness of the owners in suggesting perfect campsites that were big, grassy, and shaded, catering well to their needs. They observed that the owners work hard, which is reflected in the well-maintained and clean property. The quiet atmosphere was also a significant positive for them.
One point of feedback from this group was a minor issue regarding their young sons using the women's bathroom, which resulted in a "talking to." However, they did not describe the interaction as overly rude. This suggests that while the owners maintain rules, they do so without being excessively harsh.
Regarding the lake at Lakeview Campsite, it is described as "really swampy" and mucky, even further from the shore. While this might not be ideal for swimming directly in the lake, it is noted as being great for fishing and canoeing or kayaking. The proximity of Lake Michigan offers an alternative for those seeking traditional beach and swimming experiences. The family mentioned enjoying their evenings fishing at the boat launch as the sun went down, highlighting a serene and enjoyable aspect of the lake despite its swampy nature.
Considering the information available, Lakeview Campsite presents a mixed picture. While the infrastructure, particularly the bathrooms, showers, and docks, appears to be outdated and in need of improvement, the campground boasts a beautiful, established, and quiet environment that is both child and dog-friendly. The owners are consistently praised for their friendliness and hard work in maintaining the property. The availability of a pool and the proximity to both a fishable lake (suitable for boating) and the stunning Lake Michigan, along with attractions like Nordhouse Dunes, offer a range of recreational opportunities.
For local users searching for "camping near me" who prioritize a peaceful and nature-oriented experience and don't mind older facilities, Lakeview Campsite could be a viable option. The positive interactions with the owners and the variety of activities available, from fishing and paddleboarding to enjoying the pool and exploring nearby natural attractions, are significant draws. While no specific promotional information is provided, the focus on a quiet, family-friendly, and activity-rich environment suggests that Lakeview Campsite caters to those seeking a more traditional and nature-immersed camping experience over modern amenities. It would be advisable for potential visitors to weigh the importance of updated facilities against the appeal of the campground's natural beauty, quiet ambiance, and the positive reputation of its owners.

Lakeview Campsite Reviews
Lakeview Campsite gets 4 stars for mostly nostalgic reasons. Everything needs updating. The bathrooms are barely above pit toilets, the showers trickle Lukewarm water, and the docks are falling apart. The owners are super great and chill and love people. The campground is beautiful and established, hidden, quiet, and child/dog friendly. The pool is nice too!
Sep 05, 2024 · Ethan HunterWe had 3 families stay here and our dogs. I would agree that this is a tight ship, but it was quiet, clean, and full of things to do. We fished nearly every day, paddle boarded, went to Nordhouse dunes, and our kids enjoyed the sand piles, pool, and tether ball. We called ahead for a site suggestion and the sites we got were perfect for what we needed. They were big, grassy and shaded. The owners work hard and it shows. The property was well maintained, quiet, and clean. We did get a little bit of a talking to about our boys using Womens bathroom (they were 9 and under and Dad wasn’t with us), but nothing too rude. The lake there is really swampy. It’s great for fishing or canoeing/kayaking but really mucky, even far out from the shore. It didn’t bother us, since there is a pool and Lake Michigan is so close. We actually came to really love our evenings at the boat launch quietly fishing as the sun went down. We had a great week!
Aug 12, 2022 · Erika KillionNice campground. Reasonably kept, spacious site although we found it poorly laid out for our average sized camper. Didn't run into any staff after check in so don't anything about some of the other reviews problems with rules or staff. We played our radio under the awning, had the AC on mid day and no one bothered us about it. Didnt use the bath house but did look inside out of curiosity, it was clean. Met some nice folks and enjoyed a relaxing weekend camp. Decent little store on site. We will return. Thanks for a pleasant stay.
Aug 01, 2022 · Fred ZiefleWe love camping at Lakeview and make it a point to come up every year. The campground offers all the basic amenities you need, has an on site store and access to Lake Hamlin. Staff is friendly and helpful too. Plenty of sites for tents or trailer camping, rustic or with electric and water. Highly recommend checking them out.
Aug 06, 2020 · Eric HuntBeen a seasonal camper here for more years than I wanna remember . My wife and I love it here ! I have never seen a couple literally work from sunrise to sunset to maintain and keep up with the rigors of running this place ,Monday through Saturday . Been hearing heavy equipment operating off in the distance so I walked down and Deb (the owner) has got her backhoe out in the thick brush digging a drainage ditch to help keep the east end lots dryer . This was at 7:30 pm and she is still going an hour later trying to beat tomorrow's rain . These folks are incredible. I hope that all visitors think about this when they come to visit.
