Land of Memories Campground Introduce
For local residents in Mankato, Minnesota, and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me," Land of Memories Campground, located at 491 Amos Owen Ln, Mankato, offers a potentially convenient option. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the campground based on available customer reviews, highlighting both its potential strengths and areas where improvements may be needed, to help local users make an informed decision.
One recurring positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the campground's connection to local events, specifically the annual powwow. A visitor who returns every year for this event reports having a "great experience with the event" itself. This suggests that Land of Memories Campground may be a preferred or conveniently located option for those attending local gatherings in Mankato. For local users interested in such events, the campground's proximity could be a significant advantage.
However, the reviews also raise several concerns that local users should carefully consider when searching for "camping near me." One reviewer described Land of Memories Campground as the "worst place in area to camp," citing issues with double-booked spaces and significant delays in receiving firewood (up to two days). This suggests potential problems with the campground's management and organization, which could lead to a frustrating experience for some visitors. The same reviewer also mentioned that the caretaker is often absent and that the code for accessing the restrooms and showers may not work, effectively rendering these essential facilities unusable.
Another returning visitor echoed concerns about the bathroom facilities, describing them as "incredibly out of date." Specific issues mentioned include consistently cold shower water, small shower stalls with insufficient space for personal items, and outdated toilets that flush with a button in the wall. While this reviewer did note a positive update with the sinks, the overall condition of the bathrooms appears to be a significant drawback for some guests. This is a crucial consideration for any camper looking for basic comfort and hygiene during their stay.
The same returning visitor also pointed out that the playground is old and that there are a limited number of spots with power hookups. While these issues were reportedly not a major problem for this particular reviewer, they could be significant factors for families with young children or campers with specific power needs for their equipment. Local users requiring reliable power for their RVs or other devices should inquire about the availability and location of powered sites beforehand.
Considering the platform category "camping near me," Land of Memories Campground offers a local option with a seemingly convenient location for accessing Mankato and its events. However, the reported issues with management (double bookings, firewood delays, absent caretaker), malfunctioning or outdated bathroom facilities (cold showers, small stalls, old toilets, potentially non-functional access codes), and limited amenities (old playground, few powered sites) present significant drawbacks that local users should weigh carefully against the convenience of its location.
To provide a more structured overview for local users considering Land of Memories Campground as part of their "camping near me" search:
Environment: While the reviews don't extensively describe the natural environment of the campground, its name, "Land of Memories," suggests a potentially scenic or historically significant location. However, the reviews focus more on the facilities and management rather than the surrounding natural beauty. One positive mention of "beautiful nature" comes from a reviewer suggesting an alternative campground, implying that Land of Memories might not be particularly noted for its natural environment.
Services: Based on the negative reviews, the reliability of essential services seems to be a significant concern. The availability of firewood is questionable, and access to functioning restrooms and showers is reportedly problematic due to potentially non-working access codes and an absent caretaker. The campground does offer campsites with some having power hookups, although the number appears limited. Water and sewer hookup availability are not explicitly mentioned in the provided reviews.
Features: The campground features bathroom facilities, although they are described as outdated with cold showers and small stalls. There is also a playground, which is noted to be old. The number of campsites with power hookups is limited. The campground's location appears to be convenient for accessing local events like the annual powwow.
Promotional Information: The provided reviews do not contain any information about promotional offers, discounts, or special rates. Local users would need to contact the campground directly at (507) 387-8600 or +1 507-387-8600 to inquire about pricing and any potential promotions.
Important Considerations for Local Campers:
- Reliability of Services: Be aware of potential issues with essential services like firewood delivery and access to functioning restrooms and showers. It might be prudent to confirm the operational status of these facilities before booking.
- Bathroom Conditions: The bathrooms are reported to be outdated with cold showers and limited space. If modern and well-maintained restrooms are a priority, this campground may not meet your expectations.
- Power Hookups: If you require electrical power for your camping setup, inquire specifically about the availability and location of powered sites, as they appear to be limited.
- Playground Condition: Families with young children should note that the playground is described as old and may not offer the same level of safety or engagement as newer facilities.
- Management Responsiveness: The reported absence of a caretaker and issues with double bookings suggest potential challenges with the campground's management and responsiveness to guest needs.
- Alternative Options: One reviewer explicitly recommends other camping places in the area, suggesting that local users might want to explore alternative options before committing to Land of Memories Campground.
In conclusion, for local users searching for "camping near me" in Mankato, Land of Memories Campground offers a location that is convenient for accessing local events. However, the customer reviews highlight significant concerns regarding the campground's management, the condition and functionality of its bathroom facilities, and the limited availability of certain amenities like powered sites. While it may serve a purpose for specific needs, such as proximity to events, local campers are strongly advised to weigh these reported issues carefully and potentially consider alternative campgrounds in the area that may offer a more reliable and comfortable experience. Direct communication with the campground management to address the concerns raised in the reviews and to inquire about current conditions and policies is highly recommended before making a booking.

May 12, 2024 · Happy HomeI come here every year for powwow and have a great experience with the event. My issue is that the bathrooms are INCREDIBLY out of date. The shower water is always incredibly cold, they're very small so there's no where to put all of your shower stuff, and the toilets still flush with a button in the wall. At least the sinks were upded which is amazing to see! The playground is also pretty old and there's not a ton of spots with power but both of those are rarely a problem for me.
Sep 16, 2022 · Clara SLovely space. Relatively quiet for 4th of July weekend. Beautiful walking trail.Staff was exceptionally helpful & accommodating.Opportunity for growth: clean bathrooms thoroughly every day & add electric to all of your sites. Host didn't introduce themselves which would just be a nice touch or connection to make.
Jul 05, 2020 · Nancee NystromHUGE sites with tons of space between in A-loop. 20/30/50amp on those sites in good place. No water/sewer but a few water spigots around. Dump next to front building in an odd place so might check that out. Did not use restrooms. Park can flood like it did in June/July and I believe it was closed so check. Tons of room to leash walk Fido. Frisbee golf course and even caught a Sunday soccer game. Campsites were full Fri and Sat night as I believe locals enjoy it during the weekend. Overall it was quiet.
Aug 21, 2019 · Brett SimmermanWe camped for a weekend. So I'll start with the good stuff. Rv sites are big and lots of grass. Had good power poles and water access to fill fresh water tank with 10ft hose before I park. It's very nature related with a river to fish so bring stuff to do or it's boring for kids. Now the bad stuff.. The website is very confusing for registration and u have to pre order wood when u are registering or u can't really get it from the park(they don't take cash or cards). They never gave us the code to get into the bathrooms and had to go ask for it only to find out when I go to take a shower "mind u I'm stripped down and ready to jump in", no hot water. It almost felt like they avoided telling us there was no hot water by not giving us a code.
