Lava Hot Springs West KOA Holiday Introduce
For local users searching for "camping near me" in the heart of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, the Lava Hot Springs West KOA Holiday, situated at 89 N Center St, Lava Hot Springs, ID 83246, USA, presents a promising option. Reachable by phone at (208) 776-5209 or +1 208-776-5209, this KOA campground appears to be undergoing improvements while offering a highly convenient location and a range of camping experiences. Based on recent customer reviews, we can provide an objective overview of its environment, services, and features to assist local users in their search for the ideal "camping near me" getaway.
One of the most significant advantages of Lava Hot Springs West KOA Holiday, as highlighted by a reviewer, is its "super convenient" downtown location. This prime positioning places campers within easy walking distance of various attractions, including the famous Lava Hot Springs pools, which are described as being "across the street and three blocks away." Additionally, the campground offers a plethora of "food and drinks choices within short walking distance," making it an ideal base for those who appreciate having amenities and entertainment options readily accessible without the need for driving. For local users prioritizing convenience and walkability when searching for "camping near me," this KOA's location is a major selling point.
The campground is also noted for its ongoing improvements. A reviewer mentioned that the site is "great to stay and improving!" and that "they're making lots of improvements making this a newer KOA." This suggests that the management is actively investing in upgrading the facilities and overall camping experience. While specific details of all improvements are not provided, this positive trend indicates a commitment to enhancing the quality of the campground for its guests. Local users looking for "camping near me" with modern or recently updated facilities might find this appealing.
Nature enthusiasts will appreciate that "some sites are right on the river," offering the scenic and tranquil ambiance of waterfront camping. Waking up to the sounds of the river and enjoying the views from your campsite can significantly enhance the "camping near me" experience for those who value natural surroundings. However, it's important to inquire about the availability and specific location of these riverfront sites when booking.
In terms of facilities, the bathrooms are described as "nice and newer," indicating a focus on providing clean and updated amenities for guests. This is a crucial aspect for any campground, and positive feedback on bathroom quality is always a good sign for those seeking a comfortable "camping near me" option. However, the same reviewer pointed out a design flaw in the showers, noting that they are "huge, but square with no ante room to keep your towel and clothes dry and no private dry space to put your clothes on." While the size of the showers might be appreciated, the lack of a dry area could be inconvenient, especially during colder months or for those who prefer more privacy while changing. This is a specific detail that local users might want to consider based on their personal preferences.
The presence of "friendly staff" is another positive aspect highlighted in the reviews. Welcoming and helpful staff can significantly contribute to a pleasant camping experience, providing assistance and information to make guests feel comfortable and well-cared for. For local users seeking "camping near me" with good customer service, this feedback is encouraging.
The campground offers fire pits, which are a common and desirable feature for many campers looking to enjoy campfires for cooking or ambiance. However, a reviewer noted that the fire pits are "poorly designed" and suggested specific improvements to enhance airflow and promote a cleaner burn. Given that the pits are "feet from the campers," a clean burn is indeed important for safety and air quality. Local users who plan to use the fire pits extensively might want to inquire if any improvements have been made or come prepared with strategies for efficient burning.
Lava Hot Springs West KOA Holiday is also pet-friendly, with a mentioned fee of "$6 per pet." For local users searching for "camping near me" and traveling with animals, this is an important piece of information to factor into their budget. It's advisable to inquire about any specific rules or restrictions regarding pets at the campground.
One reviewer who stayed in a "deluxe cabin" described it as "so cute" and noted that it had a futon that pulled out to a full-sized bed, providing "perfect space for a mom and her two tall teens!" This indicates that the campground offers cabin rentals as an alternative to traditional tent or RV camping, providing a more comfortable and sheltered accommodation option. For local users seeking "camping near me" but preferring not to sleep in a tent, the availability of deluxe cabins is a significant feature.
The same reviewer also mentioned that "the campgrounds were amazingly clean," reinforcing the positive feedback about the cleanliness of the facilities. A clean camping environment contributes greatly to a positive overall experience for those seeking "camping near me."
While one reviewer mentioned "next to no campers first of March," this likely reflects the off-season and might not be indicative of the campground's occupancy during peak times. Local users planning to camp during the spring, summer, or fall should expect potentially higher occupancy rates and are advised to book in advance.
The review mentions the construction of a "new pizza restaurant on site." This upcoming amenity could be a significant convenience for campers, providing an easy option for meals without having to leave the campground. Local users looking for "camping near me" with on-site dining options will appreciate this future addition.
In conclusion, Lava Hot Springs West KOA Holiday offers a compelling option for local users searching for "camping near me" due to its excellent downtown location with easy access to the hot springs and other amenities, ongoing improvements, clean facilities, and the availability of riverfront sites and deluxe cabins. While there are minor drawbacks mentioned, such as the shower design and fire pit functionality, the overall positive feedback, especially regarding location and cleanliness, suggests a potentially enjoyable stay. Local users should inquire about riverfront site availability, pet policies, and the status of the new pizza restaurant when making their reservations to ensure it meets their specific needs and preferences for their "camping near me" experience.

Lava Hot Springs West KOA Holiday Reviews
Great place to stay and improving! They're making lots of improvements making this a newer KOA. No pool but a new pizza restaurant is being built on site. Some sites are right on the river. The bathrooms are nice and newer but the showers are designed poorly. They're huge, but square with no ante room to keep your towel and clothes dry and no private dry space to put your clothes on. Largest shower award though. The location is super convenient - downtown. Got spring pools are across the street and three blocks away. Lots of food and drinks choices within short walking distance. Friendly staff. Fire pits are nice but poorly designed. They need to be dug up, hole enlarged, rocks on bottom, pit installed and rocks put in surrounding pit. This will allow airflow from the bottom facilitating a clean burn. The pits are feet from the campers so a clean burn is important. $6 per pet. Next to no campers first of March.
Mar 15, 2025 · David MillsThe campgrounds were amazingly clean. We stayed in a deluxe cabin and it was so cute. The futon pulled out to a full sized bed. Perfect space for a mom and her two tall teens!
Apr 27, 2025 · Leslie McGarrityThey cut down all the big trees in the campground! There goes all the shade and wildlife. 😥 The cabins are clean but at almost $500 for 2 nights, it's way overpriced, especially since you have to bring your own bedding and towels. This used to be our favorite place to stay in Lava, now it's turning into a giant slab of concrete. All good things come to an end.
Mar 31, 2025 · Natalie BlossomI couldn't get past them nickel and dimeing me for kids and dogs (pay per night for dogs). If I pay for dogs, I expect not to arrive at my site with two droppings from previous dogs. Firewood is very expensive. Other than that, their updates they are making are great and a perfect location.
Apr 16, 2025 · Amanda BakkerWe had a great visit. Right across the street from a hotel that has several hot spring pools. The KOA had just got dumped on by snow and all the spots were cleaned out. Staff was awesome and friendly. The bathrooms were kept top notch. I highly recommend this KOA and visiting Lava Hot Springs...it's a great little town....very cute.
