Based on the available customer reviews, we can provide an objective introduction to its environment, services, and features to aid local users in their search for the ideal "camping near me" experience.
One of the most frequently praised aspects of Smith's Trout Haven is its excellent location. Reviewers highlight its proximity to several key attractions in Lava Hot Springs. It is described as being "right outside town by the river," offering the scenic beauty and recreational opportunities associated with a riverside setting. Additionally, its location near the "Olympic swimming pool" provides convenient access for those looking to enjoy aquatic activities beyond the natural hot springs. Perhaps most notably, Smith's Trout Haven is situated close to the natural hot springs of Lava Hot Springs, which are specifically mentioned as having "great natural hot springs without the sulfur smell!" This is a significant advantage for visitors who appreciate the therapeutic benefits of hot springs but are sensitive to the odor often associated with sulfurous waters. For local users searching "camping near me" with easy access to both natural and man-made water attractions, Smith's Trout Haven appears ideally positioned.
The campground is explicitly described as "family-friendly," making it an attractive option for local users searching for "camping near me" with children. The mention of the owners living close by suggests a personal touch in the management and a potential for a more attentive and caring atmosphere compared to larger, more impersonal campgrounds. This small business feel can be a significant draw for families seeking a safe and welcoming environment for their camping trip.
Smith's Trout Haven has a notable policy regarding alcohol and pets: "No alcohol or pets allowed." This policy can be a significant advantage for certain types of campers. For those seeking a quieter and potentially cleaner environment without the presence of alcohol consumption or pets, Smith's Trout Haven provides a specific type of "camping near me" experience that caters to these preferences. Families with young children or individuals with allergies or aversions to pets might find this policy particularly appealing.
One reviewer mentioned a minor issue: "The only complaint, was the water going to the pond on all night long." While they acknowledged that "if you like white noise, you’d love it," it's a factor that light sleepers might want to consider. The continuous sound of water flowing to a pond could be either soothing or disruptive depending on individual preferences. Local users sensitive to nighttime noise when "camping near me" might want to inquire about the proximity of campsites to this water feature.
Despite this minor noise concern, the reviewer concluded by stating, "Definitely staying here again," indicating a positive overall experience that outweighed this single drawback. This reinforces the positive aspects of the location, family-friendly atmosphere, and the no alcohol/no pets policy.
While the reviews provide valuable insights into the location, atmosphere, and specific policies of Smith's Trout Haven, they offer limited details about the specific services and amenities available. Typically, campgrounds offer basic facilities such as restrooms, and possibly showers and picnic areas. Given the positive reviews and the "family-friendly" description, it's likely that Smith's Trout Haven provides these essential services, although the extent and quality are not detailed in the provided text. Local users searching for "camping near me" with specific amenity requirements (e.g., laundry facilities, Wi-Fi) might need to contact the campground directly to inquire about their availability.
Similarly, the reviews do not provide any specific promotional information. Local users interested in potential discounts for local residents, off-season rates, or family packages would need to contact Smith's Trout Haven directly using the provided phone numbers to inquire about any current offers. As a small business, they might have specific promotions that are not widely advertised online.
In terms of the environment, Smith's Trout Haven is situated in a prime location "right outside town by the river," offering a blend of natural beauty and convenient access to the attractions of Lava Hot Springs. The absence of sulfur smell at the nearby hot springs is a notable environmental advantage. The family-friendly atmosphere and the no alcohol/no pets policy contribute to a specific type of camping environment that prioritizes a peaceful and clean setting. The potential for water noise from a nearby pond might be a minor environmental factor to consider for some campers.
In conclusion, Smith's Trout Haven appears to be a charming and conveniently located campground for local users seeking "camping near me" in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho. Its proximity to the river, the Olympic swimming pool, and the natural hot springs (without the sulfur smell) makes it an excellent base for exploring the area's attractions. The family-friendly atmosphere and the clear policies regarding no alcohol and no pets create a specific type of camping environment that will appeal to many. While one reviewer noted a potential noise issue with water flowing to a pond, their overall positive experience and intention to return speak highly of the campground. Local users with specific amenity needs or those interested in promotional offers should contact Smith's Trout Haven directly. Overall, for families and those seeking a clean, quiet, and well-located "camping near me" option in Lava Hot Springs, Smith's Trout Haven is definitely worth considering.

Smith's Trout Haven Reviews
Cute, family-friendly campground in Lava Hot springs Idaho. It's at a great location right outside town by the river, Olympic swimming pool, and the Hot Springs. (Great natural hot springs without the sulfur smell!) Small business with the campground owners living close by. Great stay for the family!
May 03, 2025 · Rebekah HolladaySuch a quick drive to Lava hot springs! Great spot for family friendly camping. No alcohol or pets allowed- which is perfect for me! The only complaint, was the water going to the pond on all night long. I suppose if you like white noise, you’d love it. Definitely staying here again.
Aug 06, 2024 · Charly HardenWe go camping to be with our family, enjoying the peace and calm that nature brings. We definitely got that at Smith’s Trout Haven! It was refreshing to not have to worry about people being disorderly. Best camping experience in years! It was easy to make a reservation and I didn’t have to make it a year in advance. The owners were very helpful and kind in answering all of our questions. The campground was very clean and well maintained, including the port-a-potty. We found the price very reasonable, especially for Lava Hot Springs.
Jul 27, 2024 · Angela HansenThis is a very family friendly campground. It was very quiet, especially after hours. Most of the other campgrounds were very close to the highway or train. The host's were very accommodating. Our kids had a lot of fun exploring the pond and trails.
Jun 18, 2024 · Bryce oWe have been coming here for years and this year has been the best year. In the past we have had to deal with loud people, drunk people, dogs barking all the time and loose dogs that would wander into our camp. I believe there new policies have made it more family friendly. The only things I would love them to have is flushing toilets and showers and more shade (which I know they have been working on for years). Other than that this place has our business for years to come.
