For local adventurers in search of an exceptional "camping near me" experience, Big Spring Campground, located off Forest Rd 026 in Bancroft, ID 83217, USA, offers a fantastic mountain getaway. Situated in a picturesque environment and equipped with good facilities, this campground has garnered positive reviews from visitors, particularly highlighting its suitability for group camping and its proximity to natural attractions. If you're browsing options under the category of "camping near me" and value spacious sites, a tranquil atmosphere, and access to natural beauty, Big Spring Campground is definitely worth considering.
The environment of Big Spring Campground is consistently praised for its natural charm. Described as a "great mountain campground," it is nestled among a mix of pine and quaking aspen trees, creating a classic mountain landscape. Visitors during Memorial Day weekend reported the area to be very green, indicating a lush and vibrant setting, particularly in the late spring and early summer months. The presence of these tree types suggests a shaded environment, although the extent of shade at individual campsites isn't specified. The overall ambiance is reported as "quiet," making it an ideal retreat for those seeking peace and serenity away from the noise of urban life. The spaciousness of the campground is another significant environmental feature, with "plenty of room" available, especially in the group site, which could accommodate up to ten trailers according to one review.
One of the notable features of Big Spring Campground is its proximity to a "quick beautiful nearby hike to the springs." This suggests an easily accessible natural attraction that campers can enjoy without extensive travel. The presence of a spring often indicates a source of fresh water and can contribute to the scenic beauty of the area. This nearby hiking opportunity adds significant value for those who enjoy exploring the natural surroundings on foot and provides a chance to experience the local ecosystem up close.
In terms of services and facilities, Big Spring Campground appears to offer essential amenities for a comfortable camping experience. One reviewer mentioned that the "facilities were good," and another specifically noted a "clean outhouse." While details about other potential facilities like water sources, fire pits, or picnic tables are not explicitly provided in the reviews, the positive mention of the existing facilities is encouraging. For a successful "camping near me" trip, having clean and well-maintained basic amenities is crucial.
Big Spring Campground also seems to be accommodating to a variety of camping styles. The reviews mention "plenty of places for trailers and tents," indicating that both RV and tent campers can find suitable sites. The ability to accommodate large groups, as evidenced by the group site that could fit ten trailers, makes this campground an excellent option for family reunions, gatherings of friends, or other group outings. The "SOLID group site" designation further reinforces its suitability for collective camping experiences.
Another positive aspect highlighted by a reviewer is that "dogs ok," indicating that Big Spring Campground is a pet-friendly location. For many local users, the ability to bring their canine companions along on camping trips is a significant factor when choosing a "camping near me" destination. This welcoming attitude towards pets enhances the overall appeal of the campground for a broad range of outdoor enthusiasts.
While the reviews are overwhelmingly positive, one visitor noted that nights during Memorial Day weekend were "freezing." This suggests that while the campground is enjoyable, particularly for its greenery and overall environment, campers visiting during early season or at higher elevations should be prepared for potentially cold nighttime temperatures. This highlights the importance of checking weather forecasts and packing appropriate gear, especially warm clothing and bedding, for trips to mountain campgrounds, even during holiday weekends.
Another minor point mentioned was the presence of "some bugs" during the Memorial Day weekend visit. This is a common occurrence in outdoor environments, especially during warmer months and near water sources (like the nearby spring). Campers should be prepared with insect repellent and take necessary precautions to minimize any inconvenience caused by insects.
The provided phone numbers for Big Spring Campground are (877) 444-6777 and +1 877-444-6777. This suggests that the campground is likely part of a larger reservation system, possibly through Recreation.gov, given the 877 prefix commonly used by this platform for federal recreation sites. Local users interested in booking a site at Big Spring Campground should use these contact numbers or visit the Recreation.gov website to check availability, make reservations, and obtain more detailed information about the campground, including specific amenities and any applicable fees.
As there is no specific promotional information provided in the reviews, local users are encouraged to inquire about any seasonal discounts, group rates, or other special offers when making their reservations. Checking the Recreation.gov website or contacting the reservation line directly would be the best way to obtain this information.
In conclusion, Big Spring Campground near Bancroft, Idaho, offers a compelling "camping near me" option for local users seeking a mountain retreat with spacious sites suitable for groups, RVs, and tents. The beautiful environment characterized by pines and quakies, the nearby hike to the springs, the clean facilities (including the outhouse), and the pet-friendly policy all contribute to a positive camping experience. While visitors during early season should be prepared for cold nights and potential insects, the overall sentiment from reviewers is overwhelmingly positive, highlighting Big Spring Campground as a "SOLID" choice for your next outdoor adventure in the Bancroft area.

Big Spring Campground Reviews
Loved this campsite! We visited Memorial Day weekend and it was very green. Some bugs but not horrible. I would probably prefer visiting a week or so after memorial because nights were freezing but the site was big, facilities were good. There is a quick beautiful nearby hike to the springs, plenty of places for trailers and tents. Overall a SOLID group site!
