Lock A Campground Introduce
For local residents in the Ashland City, Tennessee area and those searching for a peaceful "camping near me" experience, Lock A Campground, located at 1797 Cheatham Dam Rd, Ashland City, TN 37015, USA, offers a potentially ideal retreat. Based on recent customer feedback, this Corps of Engineers (COE) campground provides a quiet and relaxing environment with the unique feature of being situated near a lock, offering opportunities to watch barges passing by. This blend of natural serenity and the gentle activity of river traffic can create a distinctive camping atmosphere.
When considering campgrounds in Tennessee, especially those managed by the COE, one often anticipates well-maintained facilities and access to natural resources. Lock A Campground appears to align with this expectation, being described as a "very nice COE campground" by a recent visitor. This positive initial impression suggests that the campground is likely clean, organized, and offers a pleasant setting for campers seeking a reliable and enjoyable outdoor experience.
One of the standout features highlighted in the reviews is the peaceful and relaxing ambiance of Lock A Campground. A camper who had a brief stay due to unforeseen circumstances specifically noted that they "enjoyed ourselves so much" and found it to be "very quiet and so relaxing," expressing a definite intention to return. This speaks volumes about the campground's ability to provide a tranquil escape from the everyday hustle and bustle, making it an attractive option for those seeking a serene natural environment to unwind.
For pet owners looking for "camping near me" that accommodates their furry companions, Lock A Campground seems to be a welcoming destination. One reviewer mentioned that there are "plenty of places to walk the dog," further enhanced by the interesting backdrop of barges passing by. This pet-friendly aspect, combined with the scenic river environment, can make for enjoyable walks and outdoor time for both campers and their dogs.
The staff at Lock A Campground also receive positive mentions in the reviews. The "lady that was working" is described as "so nice" and even called to check up on new campers, indicating a caring and attentive approach to guest service. Furthermore, another staff member, Cheryl, is specifically commended for assisting with the often less glamorous but essential task of explaining how to properly dump and flush a black tank. This willingness to help, especially for camping novices, highlights a commitment to hospitality and ensuring a positive experience for all visitors. Such helpfulness can be particularly reassuring for those new to RV camping or unfamiliar with certain procedures.
While the overall experience at Lock A Campground is portrayed positively, one reviewer did offer a couple of cautionary notes regarding the approach to the campground. The road leading from Ashland City is described as "a little narrow" with locals driving at high speeds. Campers, especially those towing trailers or driving larger vehicles, should exercise caution and be aware of the local traffic patterns on this stretch of road. Additionally, the road leading into the campground itself is noted to have "steep spots." This is important information for those with larger RVs or trailers, as they may need to be mindful of the incline and ensure their vehicles are capable of navigating it safely.
Another significant point of caution raised by a reviewer is the prevalence of ticks, stating "plenty of ticks everywhere so be warned." This is a crucial piece of information for anyone planning to spend time outdoors, especially in wooded or grassy areas. Campers should come prepared with insect repellent, wear appropriate clothing (long sleeves and pants tucked into socks), and take precautions to check themselves and their pets for ticks regularly to prevent potential health issues.
In summary, Lock A Campground near Ashland City, Tennessee, appears to be a very nice COE campground offering a quiet and relaxing camping experience in a scenic riverside setting. The opportunity to watch barges, coupled with ample space for walking pets, adds to its unique appeal. The friendly and helpful staff contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, making it a potentially excellent choice for both experienced and novice campers. However, local users should be aware of the narrow and sometimes fast-paced road leading to the campground, the steep spots on the entrance road, and the significant presence of ticks. By taking these factors into consideration and coming prepared, visitors can fully enjoy the tranquility and hospitality that Lock A Campground seems to offer for those seeking a peaceful "camping near me" getaway.

Lock A Campground Reviews
We were supposed to stay two nights but only were able to stay one due to being newbies and some camper issues we had to figure out. The lady that was working called to do a check up on us and was so nice. When we finally got there and set up, we enjoyed ourselves so much and will definitely be back. It was very quiet and so relaxing. When we left, Cheryl assisted us by explaining how to dump our black tank and flush it out with the gray. That was so helpful and we appreciated that so much. Thank you for the hospitality. We love it there.
Sep 15, 2024 · Josie DVery nice COE campground. Plenty of places to walk the dog while watching barges pass by. The road from Ashland City is a little narrow and locals drive it like a nascar road course. Road into the campground has steep spots. Lastly plenty of ticks everywhere so be warned.
May 10, 2023 · Tim Zimmerman...this was a very beautiful campground! Everyone was friendly & helpful, spacious camp area with clean bathhouse & campground!...Definitely one to visit if ur in the area, we were able too fish from river or lake on site with success!... our site was gravel but some are concrete!...the camp host was very helpful with items to add to my scrapbook travel journal!
Oct 19, 2021 · VM ALLISON-BATESClean campground, beautiful place with waterfront tent sites. Water and garbage bin at each site. 👍 Plentiful options for stuff to do in Clarksville and Nashville. It rained a lot the two times I camped here, might just be bad luck. Thanks for the memories!
Aug 01, 2022 · Rich KarneyExcellent campsite with power, water, charcoal grill, fire pit, stone table and benches plus steps down to the river. There are several fishing spots within walking distance and a few more only a 5 minute drive away. There is an on site trash can that is changed daily by the park. There is a small man made beach just down the road that also has charcoal grills at every little pavilion.
