Madelia Campground at Watona Park Introduce
For local users seeking "camping near me" in the vicinity of Madelia, Minnesota, Madelia Campground at Watona Park, located at 519 Everett Christensen Dr, Madelia, MN 56062, USA, presents itself as a potential option. With phone numbers (507) 380-9440 and +1 507-380-9440 available for inquiries, this campground offers a small but reportedly pretty environment within Watona Park. However, it's crucial for prospective campers to be aware of both the positive and negative feedback from recent visitors to make an informed decision.
One reviewer described the campground as "small but pretty," suggesting a potentially pleasant and intimate setting. This could appeal to those looking for a quieter camping experience or a more natural environment. However, this same reviewer also highlighted a significant environmental factor to consider: the close proximity of a golf course. According to their feedback, golf balls occasionally "whizz" by the cars and campers, which could pose a safety concern or at least be a source of annoyance for some visitors. This proximity to the golf course is a notable environmental characteristic that potential campers should be aware of.
In terms of services and facilities, the same reviewer pointed out that the two bathrooms are located "pretty far away" from the campsites. This could be an inconvenience, particularly for families with young children or individuals with mobility issues. The distance to essential facilities like restrooms is a practical consideration for any camping trip and should be weighed against the other potential benefits of staying at Madelia Campground.
Another service-related concern raised in the reviews is the "practically no parking for visitors." This could be a significant issue for those expecting to have guests visit them at their campsite. Limited parking can create logistical challenges and may deter campers who anticipate having friends or family join them during their stay.
On a more positive note, a camper who stayed for an extended period of 12 weeks described Madelia Campground as a "great park" with "lots of activities." This suggests that Watona Park itself offers various recreational opportunities that campers can take advantage of. The reviewer also praised the cleanliness and maintenance of the sites, indicating that the individual camping spots are well-kept. Furthermore, they commended the park rangers and managers as being "great" and noted that other campers were "polite & courteous," contributing to a positive community atmosphere within the campground.
However, this long-term visitor also raised a significant concern regarding the cleanliness of the bathrooms. They reported a specific instance of a women's garbage bag containing a dirty diaper being left untouched for at least 10 weeks. Additionally, they stated that the shower floors in both the women's and men's restrooms were not cleaned for extended periods (10 weeks and 12 weeks, respectively). They also mentioned shower head parts and general debris remaining on the men's shower floor for several weeks. This detailed feedback paints a concerning picture regarding the consistency of bathroom maintenance during their stay, despite calls made to city hall to address the issue.
Considering these mixed reviews, local users searching for "camping near me" should carefully weigh the pros and cons of Madelia Campground at Watona Park. The "pretty" environment and the potential for activities within Watona Park, along with the positive comments about site maintenance and the campground community, are definite advantages. The presence of park rangers and managers who are reportedly "great" suggests that there is on-site support and a level of organization at the campground.
However, the significant drawbacks of the close proximity to the golf course and the potential hazard of stray golf balls, the inconvenient distance to the bathrooms, the lack of visitor parking, and the serious concerns raised about bathroom cleanliness cannot be ignored. The detailed account of unhygienic conditions in the restrooms over an extended period is a significant factor that potential campers should consider, especially those prioritizing cleanliness and sanitation during their camping experience.
Unfortunately, the provided information does not include any specific promotional details for Madelia Campground at Watona Park. Therefore, local users interested in any potential discounts, special offers for local residents, or information about seasonal rates will need to contact the campground directly using the provided phone numbers: (507) 380-9440 or +1 507-380-9440. When calling, it would be prudent to inquire about the current status of bathroom maintenance and any measures that have been taken to address the issues raised in the reviews.
In conclusion, Madelia Campground at Watona Park offers a small and potentially pleasant camping environment within Watona Park, with access to park activities and a reportedly positive community of campers. The park rangers and managers are also praised for their service. However, prospective visitors must be aware of the potential downsides, including the proximity to a golf course and the associated risk of stray golf balls, the distance to the bathrooms, the limited visitor parking, and the serious concerns raised by a long-term visitor regarding the infrequent cleaning of the restroom facilities. For local users searching for "camping near me," Madelia Campground at Watona Park warrants further investigation through direct contact to ascertain the current conditions and determine if it meets their specific needs and expectations for a camping experience.

Madelia Campground at Watona Park Reviews
Small but pretty. The golf course is so close that balls go whizzing by the cars and campers. The 2 bathrooms are pretty far away. Practically no parking for visitors. But not bad for a night or 2 at the most.
May 14, 2022 · BeccaStayed here for 12 weeks....great park, lots of activities, sites are clean & maintained, park rangers/managers are great, other campers are polite & courteous. Only one issue...bathrooms need to be cleaned daily....1 women's garbage bag with dirty diaper was left untouched for at least 10 weeks, shower floors untouched....men's shower floors, untouched for 12 weeks...shower head parts on the floor for 9 weeks, beer bottle tops, electrical tape, big clump of private hair, floors untouched....unhappy about this one situation, did make calls to have this addressed throughout our stay to city hall
Aug 25, 2023 · Matthew PayneThis is a very nice park with lots of camping space. Park offers lots to do baseball field, sand volleyball, swimming pool, golf course and much more. Campground attendant was very helpful she does a great job. Gave us a nice packet of information for the local businesses. The Mexican restaurant downtown was a great place to eat.Nice town and awesome park... would absolutely stay again
Jun 24, 2022 · Chanda SmithThey are so concerned about weather you paid or not. Had 2 different people come ask. They should put some of that effort into cleaning the showers and bathrooms…… it was gross! We pay weekly btw and had to move from a full hookup site for the weekend into the middle of a softball field and a soccer field this is what brought me to the shower house…. We will be exploring options today. It’s a small campground so cleaning the facilities should not be a problem! I can handle a lot of things but not gross floors and walls. I mean gross 🤮
Jul 31, 2021 · Shelley B.Found this place by accident, but was well worth the stay. Where we live we don't have lightening bugs, so my son had never seen them before, but this place came alive with them when it got dark. Not sure how much it cost to stay in a camper or RV, since we stayed in Tent. However the tent spaces are really reasonable. It is in a public park, but still has electricity and water in the camper spaces and electricity in the tent spaces.
