Maxwell FamCamp Introduce
For local residents seeking a convenient "camping near me" experience in the Montgomery, Alabama area, Maxwell FamCamp, located at 390 March Rd, Montgomery, AL 36112, USA, presents itself as a potential option. While specific details might require direct contact, the available information, including its location and customer reviews, offers insights into what campers can expect from this facility.
Maxwell FamCamp's address indicates its proximity to Montgomery, the capital city of Alabama. This location offers a blend of accessibility to urban conveniences and potential for a quieter, more relaxed camping environment. Being situated near a military installation (implied by "FamCamp") often suggests a well-maintained facility catering to military families and potentially open to the general public as well. The environment of such campgrounds typically prioritizes safety and functionality.
Based on a customer review, Maxwell FamCamp boasts "all the usual amenities." This generally includes essential facilities such as restrooms with showers, laundry services, potable water access, and waste disposal. For RV campers, standard amenities would likely extend to electrical hookups, water connections, and possibly sewage hookups at individual sites. The mention of "parks in this base" being enjoyed by a child suggests family-friendly features, potentially including playgrounds or open recreational areas within the broader military installation that campers might have access to.
However, the reviews also highlight some potential drawbacks. One camper noted "some noise from the highway at night and from trains," indicating that while the campground itself might be pleasant, its location could be subject to ambient noise. This is a factor that light sleepers might want to consider when planning their stay.
Another review details challenges upon arrival, stating, "When we arrived there was no one anywhere to tell us where to go and no one ever answers the phone when you call." This lack of immediate on-site assistance and difficulty in contacting the management via phone could be a significant concern for potential campers, especially those arriving after hours or with specific inquiries. The provided phone numbers for Maxwell FamCamp are (334) 318-8078 and +1 334-318-8078. It is advisable for prospective visitors to attempt contacting these numbers in advance to confirm availability and arrival procedures.
Furthermore, the review from the motorhome owner points out a potential issue with site design. They mention a "tight squeeze" for a 36ft motorhome with slides due to a "covered patio area" at their site. This camper suggests that the covered patio "adds nothing and looks terrible," and it significantly reduced the usable space, forcing them to park very close to their neighbor's site. This feedback indicates that some sites at Maxwell FamCamp might not be optimally designed for larger RVs, particularly those with multiple slide-outs. Campers with larger rigs should inquire specifically about site dimensions and any obstructions before booking.
Despite these criticisms, the same reviewer also notes that "The park is quiet and the people staying are very nice." This suggests a positive community atmosphere within the campground and a generally peaceful environment, aside from the external noise sources. This can be a significant draw for campers seeking a relaxed and friendly setting.
To provide a more comprehensive understanding of Maxwell FamCamp for local users in the "camping near me" category, we can consider typical features and services offered by similar campgrounds:
- Full Hookup RV Sites: Given it's a "FamCamp," it likely offers RV sites with electrical, water, and sewer hookups to accommodate recreational vehicles of various sizes, though the review suggests that maneuvering larger units might be challenging on some sites.
- Tent Camping Areas: While not explicitly mentioned, campgrounds often provide designated areas for tent campers, possibly with access to shared water spigots and potentially more primitive amenities.
- Restroom and Shower Facilities: Clean and well-maintained restrooms with hot showers are a standard expectation at most campgrounds.
- Laundry Facilities: For longer stays, access to coin-operated or card-operated washing machines and dryers is often available.
- Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Individual campsites typically include a picnic table and a fire ring or grill for outdoor cooking and campfires (where permitted).
- Recreational Areas: The mention of "parks in this base" suggests that campers might have access to recreational facilities within the military installation, such as playgrounds, sports fields, or walking trails.
- Security: Being on a military installation often implies a higher level of security compared to privately owned campgrounds.
- Potable Water and Waste Disposal: Easy access to drinking water and designated dump stations for RV waste are essential services.
- Wi-Fi Access: Many modern campgrounds offer Wi-Fi, either at individual sites or in common areas, although its availability and reliability at Maxwell FamCamp are not specified in the provided information.
For local users considering Maxwell FamCamp for their next camping trip, it's important to weigh the positive aspects, such as the usual amenities and the quiet, friendly atmosphere, against the potential drawbacks, including highway and train noise, the possibility of challenging arrival procedures, and potentially tight spaces for large RVs with slide-outs, especially on sites with covered patios.
Since no specific promotional information is provided in the reviews, local campers are encouraged to contact Maxwell FamCamp directly using the provided phone numbers – (334) 318-8078 or +1 334-318-8078 – to inquire about:
- Current rates and availability.
- Specific details about RV site sizes and configurations, especially for large motorhomes with slide-outs.
- Arrival procedures and check-in information.
- The availability and accessibility of amenities.
- Any specific rules or regulations for campers.
- Potential access to recreational facilities on the military base.
In conclusion, Maxwell FamCamp in Montgomery offers a locally accessible camping option with standard amenities and a reportedly pleasant community. However, potential campers should be aware of the reported noise levels and the potential challenges with site sizes and arrival procedures. Direct communication with the campground is highly recommended to ensure a satisfactory camping experience. For those searching within the "camping near me" category in Montgomery, Maxwell FamCamp warrants consideration, but with the caveat of needing to gather more detailed information beforehand.

Maxwell FamCamp Reviews
Beautiful campground. Has all the usual amenities. There was some noise from the highway at night and from trains, but nothing super disturbing. Our son really enjoyed the parks in this base. If only Montgomery had more fun things to do, we would have wanted to stay longer
Oct 23, 2024 · Jessica PenaWhen we arrived there was no one anywhere to tell us where to go and no one ever answers the phone when you call. We have a 36ft motorhome with 4 slides, 2 on each side, it was a tight squeeze wuth the covered patio area at the site we were in. The covered patio gave us almost no room and we had to get right on the edge of the pavement into our neighbors small grass patch. The park would be better if they just removed it, honestly it adds nothing and looks terrible. The park is quiet and the people staying are very nice.
Nov 10, 2023 · Brianna HGreat famcamp. Big pull thru sites. Huge dog park. Quiet. Main route into famcamp is closed. We took the Kelly st gate and followed detour, wasn’t a big deal.44ft 5th wheelWater pressure ~70 psiGreat AT&T and Verizon signal
Sep 26, 2020 · Pete EvansNo WiFi at all. Poorly cared for restrooms. But, beautiful & inexpensive
Apr 01, 2025 · Ed OdellOne of the best military campgrounds we've stayed in. Excellent Verizon signal. Large level sites. Full hookup, with excellent rates. Very high water pressure so regulator is required. Road construction on March Rd, either Kelly St or Maxwell Blvd gates have detour signs. Very friendly staff, clean restroom and laundry is just 1.00 to wash and same to dry, very efficient cycles. Free ice machine in laundry room. No wi fi, but wonderful Verizon signal for hotspots.
