The environment at White Sand Campground is characterized by its natural beauty and tranquil setting. The campground's location directly on the Brushy Fork of the Lochsa River offers soothing sounds of flowing water and opportunities for riverside relaxation. The surrounding area is described as very scenic, providing a peaceful backdrop for your camping adventure. For those interested in history, the campground is also located close to the historic Lewis and Clark Trail, offering a chance to explore significant landmarks and learn about the area's rich past. Furthermore, its proximity to Lolo Pass places it within reach of other natural attractions and scenic drives in the region.
Based on recent reviews, the services at White Sand Campground appear to be somewhat basic, typical of a smaller forest service campground. One reviewer mentioned a pit toilet and a single water spigot, which were deemed "quite adequate" for their needs. This suggests that while essential amenities are available, campers should likely come prepared with other necessities. The focus of this campground seems to be more on the natural environment and the quiet camping experience rather than extensive facilities.
The features of White Sand Campground cater to both RV and tent campers, although with some considerations for larger RVs. One detailed review provided specific information about the capacity of several individual campsites:
- Site 1: Capable of accommodating a 38' trailer or motorhome with ample space for a tow vehicle, along with several good tent sites. It is also noted as satellite-friendly.
- Site 2: This site reportedly fits a 42' RV and has parking for a tow vehicle, as well as tent sites. It is also satellite-friendly, although the reviewer noted that the trees are growing larger.
- Site 3: Described as an excellent tent-only spot with parking for two vehicles, located directly on the river and approximately 30 feet from the parking area.
- Site 4: Can accommodate a 35' RV but is noted as being narrow.
- Site 5: Suitable for a 30' trailer and offers nice, large tent areas.
- Site 6: A particularly deep site, around 60 feet, with good tent areas and satellite-friendly reception.
- Site 7: Can take a 35' RV, has good tent sites, and is satellite-friendly.
This detailed breakdown indicates that while the campground's website might suggest a maximum RV length of 30', some sites can indeed accommodate larger RVs. However, one reviewer cautioned that the unpaved road within the campground is tight, and the sites are generally small, advising against it for very large RVs. This highlights the importance of carefully considering your RV size and potentially contacting the campground directly to inquire about specific site suitability.
A significant feature of White Sand Campground is its appeal to those seeking an "out-of-the-way, small, quiet" camping experience. Its location on the Brushy Fork of the Lochsa River contributes to this peaceful atmosphere, making it an ideal spot for relaxation and enjoying the natural surroundings. The proximity to the Lewis and Clark Trail adds a historical dimension for those interested in exploring the area's heritage. For those on a road trip, as mentioned by one reviewer, it serves as a perfect overnight stop, offering a tranquil break from travel.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information available in the provided reviews. However, the positive descriptions of the scenic location, the quiet atmosphere, and the suitability for both RV and tent camping can be seen as inherent promotional aspects. The detailed information about site sizes, particularly the indication that larger RVs can be accommodated on certain sites despite potential website limitations, could be valuable for RV owners searching for "RV parks near me" who might have otherwise overlooked this campground. The mention of satellite-friendly sites is also a notable feature for those who rely on satellite connectivity.
In summary, White Sand Campground offers a charming and quiet camping experience along the Brushy Fork of the Lochsa River in Lolo, Idaho. Its scenic environment and proximity to the Lewis and Clark Trail make it an attractive destination for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike. While the amenities are basic, the campground caters to both RV and tent campers, with specific campsites capable of accommodating larger RVs than initially suggested by some general information. The campground's appeal lies in its peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty, making it an excellent choice for those seeking a more secluded and tranquil "camping near me" getaway. For the most accurate and up-to-date information regarding site availability and suitability for your specific camping needs, it is recommended to contact White Sand Campground directly at the provided phone numbers.

White Sand Campground Reviews
We RV in a 37' 5 th wheel sho I'm cautious about forest service CG's. The website showed the max RV as 30' but I always believe the rangers are conservative on their estimates. Other CG's west of here had max RV of 40' but I decided to take a look here.Site 1 will take a 38' trailer or motorhome with plenty of room to park your tow vehicle. Plus several good tent sites. It's also Satellite friendly.Site 2 is the one we're took and it will fit a 42'.. had tow vehicle parking and tent sites is also SAT friendly.. but the trees are getting big...Site 3 is a great tent only spot with parking for 2 vehicles only. The site is 30 ft from the parking and is ON the river. The nite we were there there was a couple in a cab over pickup camper.Site 4 wil take a 35' RV but is narrow.Site 5 will take a 30' trailer and has nice large tent areas.Site 6 is really deep... like 60 ft.. good tent areas and is SAT friendly.Site 7 wil take a 35' RV.. good tent sites.. is SAT friendly.
Jun 26, 2020 · J Scott LumsdenIf you like out-of-the way, small, quiet campgrounds, this is the place for you. Located on the Brushy Fork of the Lacsha River, it is a very scenic spot, close to the historic Lewis and Clark Trail and not far west of Lolo Pass. It was perfect for a one-night road trip stay. The unpaved road in the campground is tight and the sites are small, so I do not recommend this for bigger RVs. The pit toilet and one water spigot is quite adequate.
Dec 11, 2022 · David LobreeWe stumbled on this campground by luck when the campground we had chosen was unexpectedly closed. This little campground is right by a river, which was raging loud because it was spring. Lots of big shady trees, decent sized campsites with plenty of good tent spots. Nice hiking trail along a high ridge that follows part of the Lewis and Clark trail. One very clean vault toilet, no running water. No cell service. Just a great place to get away from it all!
Jun 09, 2020 · Bonnie TaylorNice camp grounds, spaces are kinda of close, there's public restrooms. Great views! Only down sides, close to your neighbors, and the fishing pond is used for the fires. So the helicopter is over head often getting water.
Sep 06, 2020 · M DSmall campground with on river sites. Quiet. Beautiful free stone river. Large campsites with large metal fire rings. Sites include picnic tables.
