Whitehouse Campground Introduce
For local residents of Lolo, Montana, and the surrounding areas searching for "camping near me" within the stunning Clearwater National Forest, Whitehouse Campground presents an appealing option for a relaxing and convenient outdoor escape. Situated off Forest Road 1685, this small campground is lauded for its picturesque river views, abundant trees, and well-maintained facilities. Its location offers a balance of natural immersion and accessibility to nearby amenities, making it an attractive choice for those seeking a getaway without venturing too far from civilization.
Immerse Yourself in a Scenic Riverside Environment
The natural environment of Whitehouse Campground is a significant draw, as highlighted by enthusiastic visitor feedback. The campground boasts "river views," allowing campers to enjoy the soothing sights and sounds of the flowing water. The presence of "lots of trees" not only enhances the scenic beauty but also provides shade and a sense of privacy between campsites. This lush tree cover also plays a crucial role in mitigating any potential noise from the nearby road. According to a reviewer, despite the proximity to the road, the dense trees effectively block the sound, ensuring that "all you hear is the river," contributing to a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
Clean and Well-Maintained Facilities
A notable aspect of Whitehouse Campground is the cleanliness of its facilities. One reviewer specifically mentioned "very clean facilities," which is always a significant plus for any camping experience. The campground is equipped with "vault bathrooms," a common and generally well-maintained type of non-flush toilet often found in national forest campgrounds. While hookups for RVs are not available ("no hookups"), the provision of clean vault toilets ensures a basic level of comfort and sanitation for all campers.
Key Features and Convenient Location
One of the key features of Whitehouse Campground is its location, which offers a blend of natural beauty and accessibility. While providing a sense of being in nature, it avoids the feeling of being "way out in the middle of nowhere." This balance is particularly appealing for those who desire a convenient escape without a long and arduous drive. Furthermore, its proximity to Lochsa Lodge is a significant advantage. Located nearby, Lochsa Lodge offers the convenience of a restaurant if campers "don't feel like cooking out." Additionally, the lodge has "a little store" where campers can purchase any forgotten items and a gas station, providing essential services within easy reach.
The campground itself is described as "small," which often translates to a more intimate and less crowded camping experience compared to larger campgrounds. While the exact number of campsites isn't specified, the "small" designation suggests a limited capacity, potentially enhancing the peacefulness and tranquility of the location.
Considerations for Your Stay
Local users considering Whitehouse Campground should be aware that it operates without utility hookups, making it best suited for tent campers and RVers who are self-sufficient in terms of power and water. The availability of vault toilets ensures basic sanitation, but campers should bring their own toiletries and be prepared for a non-modern restroom experience. The small size of the campground might mean that securing a spot, especially during peak seasons or weekends, could require arriving early.
The positive feedback regarding the river views, the abundance of trees providing a sound buffer from the road, and the cleanliness of the facilities makes Whitehouse Campground a highly desirable option for a local getaway. The convenience of nearby Lochsa Lodge for meals and supplies further enhances its appeal.

Whitehouse Campground Reviews
River views, lots of trees and very clean facilities. Although you are close to the road you don't hear it because of all the trees and all you hear is the river. It's a nice getaway without having to be way out in the middle of nowhere. Lochsa Lodge is close by if you don't feel like cooking out or you need a few items that you forgotten they have a little store and there is gas there as well.

Jun 23, 2024 · S OWell maintained quite campsites that sit on a shallow run of the lochsa river. Cedar trees shade most of the day. Fishing is fantastic. Day trips to Tom Beal park and Lolo motorway for massive vistas are well worth the time. Lochsa lodge has WiFi since there is no cell
Aug 01, 2020 · Steve Bayha (Paint by Numbers)Great spot on the Lochsa River, only downside is the proximity to US 12 and the associated traffic noise. Wendover Campground is next door but no sites right on the water like White House.
Jul 23, 2019 · Jeffrey McBrideStarted taking trips there in 2017 and ever since that have made it a yearly trip to go. The sight is beautiful. I love how it’s the perfect getaway and always able to meet new people.
